I don't think this is synth specific... it's happening with all of them.

Hello,

I just tried configuring NVDA settings on the startup screen to make the voice faster. This is really annoying with UAC dialogues in particular.

I then wanted to save the new settings but noticed that there is no "save configuration" option in the NVDA menu. and when coming back to the lock screen, indeed the new settings are reset back.

Is it categorically impossible for me to configure NVDA settings for the startup screen as a user, or is there a workaround?

Really appreciate if anyone can share if they know!

Kind Regards,

Sam

I'm having this same issue. I'm gonna check to make sure it's not filed on Github. If I have enough time, I'll file a bug on there.

Well, it definitely initiates a send-receive sequence, sequentially, for each and every account you have set up.  And if any of those servers are balky it definitely slows things down, sometimes quite a bit, and that's not just for screen reader users.

This is one reason, whether using Thunderbird or another e-mail client, that once they're started they should be left up and running in the background if you intend to revisit them many times during the day or over several days.  There's generally less of a "hitch in the gitty up" for subsequent send-receive sequences after the initial one, but sometimes even those will occasionally be balky.

My version with latest NVDA sometimes is very slow just moving through the message list. Takes as much as 5 seconds after pressing down arrow to move to the next in the list.  I have message pain turned off.

I notice it speeds up after a few minutes. Think Thunderbird does a lot of extra processing when first opened.

Here are some of my Thunderbird Options:

Options  dialog

Display  radio button  checked  2 of 8
tab control
Advanced  tab  selected  3 of 3

Open messages in:  grouping
An existing message window  radio button  checked  Alt+e  3 of 3
Close message window/tab on move or delete  check box  not checked  Alt+C

I just turned on Use hardware acceleration when available; turned off auto and smooth scrolling.  Not sure which of these settings works best on my system.  ,  It is an older i5 processor with onboard graphics; no dedicated graphics card.

Advanced  radio button  checked  8 of 8

locked Mosen Consulting Announcement: My Audiobook about Zoom Cloud Meetings is now free #adminnotice

What follows is not NVDA related, but given the circumstances with the COVID-19 pandemic is important enough that it warrants posting here.  The topic is locked, as it's announcement-only.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From: Jonathan Mosen <jonathan@...>

Kia ora everyone, from a beautiful Wellington New Zealand.

As many of you know, I’m now CEO of a national organisation here in New Zealand. I’m no longer developing Mosen Consulting projects, but I keep titles available as long as they remain relevant. Occasionally, I check in to see what we have sold through our automated system.

Having just done this, I have noticed a sharp increase in the number of people buying my audiobook on Zoom Cloud Meetings, “Meet Me Accessibly”, which is a three-hour description of how to use Zoom on a range of platforms with a screen reader. There has been a very sharp spike in sales in just the last few days.

Clearly, this is because more people are already working from home or are preparing to do so.

I do not feel comfortable profiting from a need people have during a crisis that is unprecedented in living memory. If people need access to the material at a time like this, I can afford to give it away especially since Mosen Consulting is no longer my primary means of making a living.

I have therefore refunded in full everyone who has purchased “Meet Me Accessibly” during March, and made it free on the website. You are welcome to download it free and distribute it anywhere you want. The only thing I ask is that you please not change any of the files and that it be distributed in full.

Download it free from http://mosen.org/zoom

I hope this helps in some small way during a very tough time for many.

There is no sugar coating the fact that we are living through a very difficult period in history. But if we follow quality advice including regular handwashing and levels of isolation appropriate for the degree of outbreak in our country, we’ll get through it.

Let’s all do our best to stay safe, be mindful of the safety of others, and be kind.

Take care.

Jonathan

Re: Announce numbers as a single digit

Hi,

Usually an author of these add-ons asks add-ons website maintainer about hosting their add-ons. In order to do so, it must first go through a basic review such as making sure it is licensed properly among other things.

Cheers,

Joseph

I know some people are dissatisfied with this and want a permanent option but remember that NVDA has always had the option to announce any number in single digit  by simply pressing the numpad key 5 twice.

I am not sure what the laptop equivalent is.
