is it possible to save configuration for NVDA on lock screen?

Samuel Kacer

Hello,

I just tried configuring NVDA settings on the startup screen to make the voice faster. This is really annoying with UAC dialogues in particular.

I then wanted to save the new settings but noticed that there is no "save configuration" option in the NVDA menu. and when coming back to the lock screen, indeed the new settings are reset back.

Is it categorically impossible for me to configure NVDA settings for the startup screen as a user, or is there a workaround?

Really appreciate if anyone can share if they know!

Kind Regards,
Sam

Using Matrix with NVDA.

I wanted to share a blog post by Marco, one of many blind contributors to FireFox. The blog post below talks about one way of using Matrix. Matrix, is supposed to be like email. It's supposed to be a decentralized, open source, but federated, connected, IM network. The goal is to make it like email. No matter what client you use, you can chat with anybody. The bridges, to Skype, for example, are very time consuming and technical at the moment. Still, this protocol is in it's baby phase. Give a look at the links below.

I forgot to add. No, I haven't seen a blind developer make an accessible chat app yet. For now, RIOT appears to be the only accessible app. I hope this changes when developers start making their own apps.

For those of us who use Miranda NG, no. They haven't added this protocol yet. They should. Anyway, enjoy the blog.

Using Matrix and Riot with a screen reader.

Re: New NV Speech player release.

Hmmm yeah, have fun with that.

I did muck about with it a little.

Its a prototype from 2014.

For those expecting greatness it aint eloquence or dectalk.

If you use espeak ng, then this is well it was good for its time.

But its not been updated since 2014 so it shows its age and not in a good way.

You can adjust it so it sounds completely crappy.

I don't know how  the  values all work but you in theory could make it sound like an alien or like one of the old talking clocks if you care to.

Right now it can be described as a good start on a speech synth prototype.

But in my opinion, its to crappy to really concidder using.

Saying that, now its finally updated for compatability I encourage its continued development.

Firstly, I'd like it to use the espeak ng synth or at least its data since its clearly superior to it.

After that, I'd like it to continue its own way and see how far we can push the envelope.

I still like the idea of a borg synth or dalec or well any sort of scifi robot type deal cylon maybe?

I mean they did a lot of this sort of stuff on macos7 because I saw and listened to demos being done with some tools and mac had speech back then and this was back in 2001 which sounded as good as the modern stuff so I know its possible.

Hi all.

This is just an informational message, but for those that use teamtalk, you will have noticed that the addon on the teamtalk website and in the portables is out of date and not compatible.

I sent the right link to the dev of teamtalk and just got a reply back saying it will be in the next update.

While you can and should get teamtalk addon from dlee.org its good to know that eventually we will get addons in the right places.

Its also worth noting that most addons released by nick stocton are now updated to.

Vocalizer addon

Don H

I am getting used to using the Vocalizer voices for NVDA. One issue is when it speaks the word the. It speaks it very short if that is the word. Sounds like it is saying just the letter t. Trying to figure out what to add to the dictionary to make it sound better. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I found it but i can't set a hotkey with NVDA or jaws or narrator.

Re: NV Speech Player and Add On Updater

Hi,

Actually, it does not – due to the way Add-on Updater records add-on identifiers, new add-ons will need to be registered manually before Add-on Updater can check for updates. The earliest time I can release Add-on Updater 20.04 will be end of March.

Cheers,

Joseph

I assume that anything that goes on that community website automatically gets included in the updater. Still, Joseph had to manually announce some updates, even for add ons on the community website, so not sure what's happening there or where the update channel even is. If it's not the whole website, then could it be?

Re: Addon development guide

First, interesting user name.

Second, probably because it hasn't been updated.  This happens with a vast amount of documentation over time, particularly documentation not aimed at end users.  With all the fanfare about NVDA now using Python 3 . . .
