Is there perhaps a particular issue for these that people can use to report any issues? If not I can see it all getting very fragmented. Not that I've tried it yet, but I do have next on here on windows 7 and have not yet seen your latest update. Its only a portable version so I use Master for normal use.

Subject: [nvda] IMPORTANT COMMUNITY ADVISORY: NVDA next snapshots will include wxPython 4.0.1

Hi NVDA community,

The following is considered important due to massive impact it'll have:

For those following the GitHub issue:

https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/7104

wxPython 4 came out in February 2018 (subsequently updated to 4.0.1 a few
days later). As this is a necessary milestone on our preparation to move to
Python 3, wxPython 4 watchers (including NV Access, I, Leonard de Ruijter
and others) felt it would be good to let the community test wxPython 4
integration for a while. As the chief investigator for wxPython 4 migration,
I'm happy to announce that, as of today, NVDA next branch snapshots will
include wxPython 4. However, this means it'll have issues, the biggest one
being outdated add-ons (unfortunately, NVDA Remote Support add-on is one of
those add-ons that won't work under wxPython 4 due to calls to deprecated
methods). If you run into other issues or bugs, please let me and other
develoeprs know ASAP via GitHUb or email.

notes for community:

* For NVDA Core developers: if you are working on any sort of GUI
work, please test wxPython 4 migration via a private branch or two. This is
especially the case for me and Leonard as we are both working on GUI edits
(Leonard's work on multi-page settings dialog and my work on add-on update
client interface).
* For add-on writers: please update your add-ons as soon as possible.
When updating your add-ons, please try using code paths that'll work on both
wxPython 3 (Classic) and wxPython 4 (Phoenix) to maximize compatibility).
* For users: as noted above, please report any bugs with wxPython 4
integration via GitHub or email as soon as you run across them.
* For Python 3 researchers: I advise pausing our research for a little
while until wxPython 4 lands on NVDA master snapshots.

Thank you.

Cheers,

Joseph

I'm assuming this is not the checkbox issue mentioned earlier in this list for another lag issue?
As I said at the time the only place I see this is in the alexa app on the pc in firefosx.

I know this has been posted before but could not retrieve the email about the extension or addons for Firefox that is similar with webvism. I appreciate if you could share it again here some alternative option that I could use with on the Firefox ESR to solve the capture or verification image.

Hi,

Not that this helps with your problem, but if you can I'd highly recommend using the smartphone app(I'm using the ios app myself). I'm not sure of the accessibility of the windows application, but can confirm that the ios app is if not 100 then 95% accessible with voiceover. I can't comment on android though.

HTH,

Daniel

Hi Adriani

Hopefully the snapshot fixes her problem. I am guessing hopefully she will let me ring her hopefully to a home number and guide her through the steps to get the snap shot etc and where to go in the menu etc.

Do you know if there is any more they need to do for that side of it or is it ready to go?.

Guess i will know when i get more feed back after she trys it out.

For some time now this has been known to be due to  registry issues due to uninstallers of other software not correctly registering important files. The latest next snapshot has a tool to fix this, rather predictably in its tool menu, so if you are having such issues, it may well be a good idea to try this version of nvda and use the tool.
it should do no harm, but do remember that next snaps are bleeding edge code and will need to be used with caution. Always back up your previous version and set a restore point before doing any work on registry files. Note the account that its used on has to have admin access or it won't work.

This app needs some accessibility love, I'd say. All you hear is "section" when you tab over anything.

I doubt that WindowEyes still having some components in the registry would cause this.

Windows 7 does have a problem updating when one update causes a problem.

And all after that cannot update.

Seems like it’s a security update.

Question from a long time Window Eyes user. At present Windows can’t update to the latest version as it thinks there is an incompatible program installed on my computer. That program is Window Eyes. I have correctly uninstalled WE and have done multiple searches to try and find remnants. My best guess is that it is lurking still in my registry. I am not foolish enough to try editing my registry, and Leary of using any of the “registry cleaners.” Any chance that this addon would find such a lingering registry entry. When I read “other programs” I assume other access software. I am not having the issues described in this thread, but. . . .

Any advice out there?

For some time now this has been known to be due to  registry issues due to uninstallers of other software not correctly registering important files. The latest next snapshot has a tool to fix this, rather predictably in its tool menu, so if you are having such issues, it may well be a good idea to try this version of nvda and use the tool.
it should do no harm, but do remember that next snaps are bleeding edge code and will need to be used with caution. Always back up your previous version and set a restore point before doing any work on registry files. Note the account that its used on has to have admin access or it won't work.

Re: Registry fixing tool in nvda

Gene

After thinking about and rereading part of your message further, I understand that you are talking about upgrading NVDA.  Are you saying that Window-eyes is specifically identified by Windows or the NVDA installer as being incompatible?  There have been discussions over the last two days about some people not being able to upgrade.  If you are specifically being told that Window-eyes is incompatible, this may be a different problem.  Instead of fooling around in the registry, there is a way to completely uninstall everything Window-eyes places on the machine, at least that's how the tool was described.  I didn't use Windows to any extent but I remember a way to do it.  I don't know if you need to reinstall Window-eyes to use the total uninstallation tool or if you can use the tool separately.  Others may know.  And others may know if the tool actually uninstalls everything, including registry entries and all files.

Also, your message would have been clear if you had specified what you can't update.  You said:
Windows can’t update to the latest version as it thinks there is an incompatible program installed on my computer. That program is Window Eyes.

While it is likely you are saying you can't update NVDA, since so many people write about other problems on list, it could be that you were trying to update to the final version of Window-eyes for some reason.  I realize this is unlikely, but just in general, you should specify what you are discussing.

Such as:
I am unable to update to the latest version of NVDA because, etc.

I see no reason to do anything with the registry. Most problems do not
involve the registry just as a lot of problems attributed to memory don't
involve memory. The problem started with a new release of NVDA. Other
people have reported this problem. Registry cleaning usually isn't
necessary and accomplishes nothing meaningful if anything at all while
creating a slight risk. I don't believe in taking even small risks for no
benefit. is that one reason my computer runs for years without fooling
around with the operating system with no additional problems or none that
mean anything?

Hi,
Hmmm, that's really odd indeed. Do you have access to another computer with
a similar setup where you can test these builds? Also, if you are
comfortable installing beta software releases, do you mind installing 2017.4

back (and disable update checking via general settings dialog) and see if it

improves things a bit? If it does improve things, then please install each
of the beta builds (in sequence as described in my email) and let us know if

you notice any changes.
Also, an advanced warning for people really tempted to do the following (and

in order to avoid another instance of miscommunication like VS2017 runtime
problem a few weeks back): just because you can't reproduce a problem DOES
NOT MEAN you can close an issue or ignore it. Who knows if the problem
reported by a user might happen to you one day, or the reporter found a
solution that works for him or her that might or might not apply to others.
There are some in the community (who shall remain nameless) who downplay the

severity of a problem when they can't reproduce it or think their version of

Windows is immune. No, a problem reported by a user is still a problem if it

negatively affects productivity for them, potentially marring their NVDA
experience. Some of you may think that what Gary is going through is a minor

anoyance, but if this problem affects his productivity, then it should still

be investigated to find out why, hence my suggestion to let him try
different beta builds. I'm saying all this because I think we should change
our attitudes about providing support for newcomers and/or those who are
experiencing problems we can't reproduce (easily).

2017.4, which is what I was running previously without issue. I'm confused
to how that could be possible. :/
