NVDA speak IP adress?

Diego Ricardo Matos <diegoricardomatosm4@...>

Hello guys!
Ha any way to configure NVDA to speak ip addresses?
for example:
10 dot 125 dot 0 dot0.
he talks all the numbers in the thousands, and this hinders a little.

Re: NVDA and CCleaner (free, anyway)

Dejan Ristic

Hi,

Here is what I encounter in the last two versions of Ccleaner.

After I click on the Run cleaner button, and after the cleaning action is completed, when I tab and/or shift-tab, I get stuck in the mud while tabbing through the interface. When I get stuck in the mud, without being able to do anything by means of the keyboard, I can hear the first two words I can remember which NVDA says. These are: Var strings.

When I get stuck in the mud area of the interface, it is impossible to do anything as far as the keyboard is concerned. Here is a debugging log view I've provided, which, hopefully, may be able to tell us what steps to take next.

The new version of CCleaner has been discussed on one or two lists I'm on and it has the check box problem you are describing.  I believe it is now considered inaccessible because of that problem.  One more program that is no longer accessible in a long and growing list.  I haven't seen the other problem you discussed but I'm very doubtful user error is involved.  It's probably just another aqccessibility problem or a related one.  I don't use the program and I don't know enough about it to say which.  Whatever the case, it appears that an older version needs to be used.

Subject: [nvda] NVDA and CCleaner (free, anyway)

Hello All,

I was just trying out NVDA with the latest version of CCleaner free and seem to have encountered an accessibility issue that may be the result of operator error.

The "large buttons" that control which major function you're under can be reached by tabbing or up/down arrowing, and if you hit spacebar on any one of them its control buttons come up.  What is odd is that you still end up either tabbing or arrowing past the other major control buttons before you hit the "function control buttons" for the major function you've activated.

I do have problems reaching the individual checkboxes under the Options (major), Monitoring (minor) function.  It's odd because when I activate the Monitoring button, and if I have the NVDA Focus Highlight add-on running, there is clearly a quick scan down the list of controls, which are mostly checkboxes, but you cannot seem to come to rest on any of them to access them.

Is there a way to get oneself over into the "checkbox area" (for lack of a better term) of this function in order to be able to deal with the checkboxes.  Since mouse tracking is on by default I know that these exist as far as NVDA is concerned as when I hover over them I get appropriate feedback, I just can't seem to reach them via the keyboard, which would be essential.

Re: NVDA and CCleaner (free, anyway)

Didn

't know you could do this but that will work in a round about way.

with ccleaner it would be nice the checkboxes worked but once configured its unlikely you need to configure them again.

I don't run them either and I am not convinced they generally do any good.  I don't believe in taking even small risks for no benefit.  It appears to me that running the CCleaner registry cleaner on an unaggressive setting is a small risk but why take even a small risk for no benefit?

But since I know that there are a lot of people who run such cleaners, I asked the question for their benefit.

Re: Doing a factory reset of NVDA

Gene

Are you using any add ons?  As far as I know, doing a factory reset won't help, because again, as far as I know, doing one makes all your settings what they were when you first installed NVDA.  There are no settings in NVDA that would cause this behavior.  If you are running any add ons, you can try running NVDA with no add ons.  I'll let others explain how this is done.  I could look it up but I don't use a version that is new enough to have the feature so I can't check conveniently in the program itself.

If running the program with no add ons doesn't improve anything, you can create and try a portable version to see if that improves anything.

If you don't know how, people will tell you.

Hello:
I recently posted on this group talking about my problem with the
internet being too slow using NVDA.  It is a problem I have on the
major  browsers I use, including firefox Mozilla and chrome.  But I
don't have the same slow problem when I use JAWS.
Someone suggested that I do a factory reset of the NVDA screen reader.
So, please how do I do this.  Again, will I lose all my present
configuration settings? If so, how can I do a backup to prevent losing
all my current settings.
Hope to read a response.

Re: Doing a factory reset of NVDA

hi quentin.
i have this problem too!
when my firefox javascript is enabled, and for example: i use chat
online or use the web page with ajax and in general the web pages
which are refreshed automaticly by javascript beeing enabled, i have
this slowness and my nvda and even keyboard becomes slow extremely!
but when i desable javascript, nvda is very fast and responsive in
static web pages!

Finally, if you do want to reset to factory defaults, note that it will

portable copy first to back up your settings:
1. Press NVDA+N to open the NVDA menu.
2. Press T for the Tools menu.
3. Press C to create a portable copy.
4. Either type a directory, or TAB to the "Browse" button and select one.
5. Be sure to tab to the "Copy current user configuration" button and make
sure that is checked with the spacebar.
6. Press the continue button.

To do a factory reset itself, press NVDA+control+r three times quickly.

If the factory reset does fix the issues, try manually changing your
settings back to how you prefer them one by one and see if any changes you
make bring back the slowness.

If resetting doesn't help, you can revert your changed settings by running
the portable copy of NVDA you created from the directory you setup. Note
that launching a copy of NVDA automatically closes any running copy, you
can run your regular copy in order to find the portable copy. While
running the portable copy, press NVDA+n, then T, then press I to install
NVDA. Be sure to select the option to copy the current configuration to
the installed copy.

Re: NVDA and CCleaner (free, anyway)

I was wondering if, over time, files it looks for might be moved to other places as Windows continues to receive updates every six months.  If they don't, then I would think the program could be used indefinitely if you use a recent version.  I also wonder if using the registry cleaner might become more dangerous over time if registry entries change in ways that the registry cleaner might misinterpret as removable items.

I don't see that it should hurt.  Most of the updates to CCleaner are not, to my knowledge, security related.   Over time certain additional bells and whistles, like active monitoring, have been added.

I would hope that CCleaner and screen readers would eventually "mesh" again, as it's a PITA to obtain earlier versions if you don't already have them archived.

Well yeah checkboxes don't work.

The good thing is that for general things once you have them all set the
way you want and most of the things bar mrus and some advanced settings
you only have to set once.

Once set and monitering turned off, its standard cleaning option still
works and bar the check boxes its still accessible, it would be nice if
there was a way to get those working but you needn't actually bother
with them except for first start on install.

For me, my main things to checks are mru settings which is not checked
by default, all logs, uncheck startmenu and desktop shortcuts and
windows defender in the applications settings, and it works.

Every so often I run disk cleanup.

The advantage about ccleaner is that it opens without analising so you
can run.

It has a lot of expantion but enough of those and it slows right down.

Sadly its also run by avast but oh well its still accessible, a few
minor issues like the checkboxes are an initial problem when setup but
afthey are setup they don't get unset.

Recently updated: Updating your portable copy of NVDA or postponing it to a later date; Run COM Registration Fixing tool; and The new NVDA menus
(on the NVDA Audio tutorials page) http://accessibilitycentral.net/nvda%20audio%20tutorials.html

New: Added a new review called Google Home Mini smart speaker on the podcast and product reviews page

Added a page called NVDA screen reader related resources  Added a page called Skype Trusted Microsoft Store App (off the NVDA tutorials for other programs page) http://accessibilitycentral.net/nvda%20tutorials%20for%20other%20programs.html as well as a page called Using Windows Media Player with NVDA.

There has also been a link put in under a heading called Translating this site into another language (for people using screen readers) where the default language is English  and the web address for Accessibilitycentral.net is already put in to look up and then you choose your language to read it in.

This is on the main page and may be of use to people who speak other languages. It also seems to translate other pages coming off the site while on that page.

If at any time you want to see what has been updated on the website there is a heading called recently updated on the main page and under it will tell you what has been up loaded lately.

Hi Adriani

I have just added a link to the google translate page for other languages on the main web page.

You can jump down by letter H to its heading then go down to the link then press the enter key where it will take you to another page.

For some reason i could not put in a plug in to do it and it wanted it on every page so have gone down this other route. There is a heading that says some thing like translate this website to another language and a link to the translate page. The default language is english and the website main page is already in the edit section to translate. it is then a matter of changing it to another language then having it translate to it. Just after the language combo box you want it to go to is where you can read it in another language. it also seems if you click on one of the links the next page is also translated but only on that page i have it pointing to off my website.

You will see what i mean when it is translated.

it may help? for people where english is not there first language like mine.

Not sure if the steps on what to do is enough or should i add a little more or hopefully it is clear enough on what to do.

the old way to get into safe mode in windows 10 can be found here at https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-boot-to-safe-mode-with-command-prompt-2624541

You will need a pair of eyes to do this plus you might not even have sound.

Re: Edit Combo Boxes

John Isige

The trick that seems to work for me, which somebody told me about on here, is to hit NVDA-space on the combo box, then possibly alt-down arrow if you need it to open to up. That let's you arrow through the choices. If you just hit enter on it and arrow, some sites like to change things right away, and NVDA will pop out of focus mode and into browse mode because the site's changed. If you hit NVDA-space to go into focus mode manually though, it will stay in focus mode until you hit NVDA-space again to toggle it off.

i am noticing an issue with edit boxes on some sites that offer you choices as you type. This is common on airline sites. With JAWS you can arrow down and find your choice, but this doesn't seem to happen with NVDA. Is there an NVDA exclusive keystroke that you need in order to make this happen?
