Just wondering whether anyone else has encountered this issue, or whether it’s peculiar to my situation (original report below).

Testing with a Freedom Scientific (now VFO) Focus 40 Blue braille display, NVDA 2017.4 and the latest Windows 10 1709 release, if I switch to the Windows 10 lock screen and then allow the host computer and the braille display to suspend, the display is not detected after resuming from suspend. The only solution I found was to restart NVDA, after which the display was again detected.

 

Can anyone else reproduce this issue?

 

I can test with a Baum display as well, but I haven’t done so yet.

I use Open Drive as well.

It downloads very fast in Chrome.

Also, I used my Ethernet cable instead of WiFi. The download took two minutes less using the Ethernet instead of WiFi. Just said that in case you want to try both Internet connections.

If it was, then that would be very uncommon.  It may be that, just having been announced, a lot of people, far more than usual, tried to download the file at the same time.  But I'm skeptical because we heard no reports from others and if there were such an issue, we would expect to see people talking about how slow the download is or that they couldn't do so.  Therefore, I'm very skeptical.

file. Its only running at 1.2meg a second here with long pauses as it goes

I never actually keep a public build handy, it's that stable at least for my machine. And if it brakes thee's narrator.

I always use the snaps to get access to earlier features and hav e bleeding edge code. They are very reliable and, well, snappy. So to say never use snapshots unless  you have to is kind of a no no in my book. I'm not a dev but I love to have the latest and grates, as far as nvda anyway.

I didn't say you didn't have a slow download.  I'm saying that that is your individual experience and when I said I was skeptical, I meant that I am very skeptical that your problem is a general one.  I didn't say that clearly in that message but I did in either a preceeding or a follow-up one.  Based on one person's experience, that is not grounds to say that a faster site is needed.  If the problem was widespread, that would be different.  But we have not seen any other complaints about slow downloads, by which I mean half an hour or hour downloads.

I don't know what your upload speed is and what amount of storage you have. i find Dropbox far faster to upload to than one drive or google drive ever is or is that are?

However I'm over half full already with my talking newspaper uploads and archives so need to be careful wioith big files like this one.

In what context does this occur. Obviously, nvda responds to what the
application is doing to control this. If you have echo keys as they are
typed on on some dodgy web sites I've noticed it saying p star a star etc,
when the keyboard repeat should be off. I have not seen this on good
software or web sites. s. Some web sites allow you to toggle speaking of
passwords on and off of course, and there is I think an nvda add on that
allows you to hear passwords.After all if you are alone and want to make
sure you typed it correctly, why not? Thus I think in order to answer your
question we would need to know the specific case when its happening and you
think it should not so others can test it.

I have had issues downloading to desktop on windows 10 by the way, such software usually won't run, it has to be copied to some other place first.

I downloaded it right from the email by hitting the context key, then the letter K, then alt S. The zip file downloaded right to my desktop.

If it was, then that would be very uncommon. It may be that, just having been announced, a lot of people, far more than usual, tried to download the file at the same time. But I'm skeptical because we heard no reports from others and if there were such an issue, we would expect to see people talking about how slow the download is or that they couldn't do so. Therefore, I'm very skeptical.

It might be a a bandwidth issue. its a very slow connection and a very large
file. Its only running at 1.2meg a second here with long pauses as it goes
along.

I think it might have a lot to do with that yes. However if I want to use it again at the moment I can load in a portable version of the last release of nvda. Its only the snapshot master which breaks 2003/2.

I've also a suspicion that it might be causing issues with Jarte at times, but in this case its not page breaks, its fonts.

When should you use development snapshots?
Right now!
I would Use Master snapshots, because they have been tested for two weeks. It is beta software like the RC versions are for the major versions like 2018.1.
I use Next snapshots, because they are even more up to date, and I like testing new code. The more advanced should use those.
