Re: The period key not speaking

'AppData' is a folder in your Windows user account home folder, and 'Roaming' is a folder within that. AppData\Roaming is where programs on your machine store data that is specific to your user account. The folder is normally hidden, and lives within your user account home folder.

Re: New Member Seeking Tutorials

Quentin Christensen

Hi Richard,

Good questions!  As David noted, the electronic text version comes as a zip file which includes the book as a web page (html), Word (docx), electronic book (ePub) and Kindle (kfx) formats - they are all identical, it's just up to personal preference which format you prefer to read.

The audio and Braille versions were updated last year, just after we updated the electronic text version.  We tried to keep them accurate for users with Windows 7 through to Windows 10 and the current (at the time) NVDA.  So, it should give you enough information to be able to get to a program using the Start menu for instance, although it doesn't necessarily cover every new aspect of the latest incarnation of the Windows 10 start menu.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi Richard,

As well as all the information previously mentioned, we have some official training material for NVDA you might be interested in.  The main one to start with is the Basic Training for NVDA.  Despite the name, it covers everything from starting NVDA through to advanced concepts like Object Navigation, the Review Cursor and Configuration Profiles.  It is available in a range of formats, starting at just $30 Australian (not much over $20 USD depending on the exchange rate of the day): https://www.nvaccess.org/shop

Kind regards

I have never used this player but whilst I was looking it up saw that downloads of older versions appear to be archived on
https://www.videohelp.com/software/PotPlayer/old-versions

So presumably you can uninstall the version you have and try and prevent upgrade to the inaccessible version.

Hi,

One of my computer updated potplayer to 1.7.21126

and came across the following issues with nvda.

1. pressing application key / right click with mouse cannot access the
context menu

2. pressing f5 cannot access the preferences

3. the installer of the latest version added a adware, and if it is on
that step, pressing tab with nvda cannot access the buttons.

I found it very frustrated, cause my work require potplayer's function.

Anyone would know any media player has a function to press hotkey and
copy the current play position to clipboard?

Thanks,

William

Re: Question to NV-Access developers

Quentin Christensen

Hi Christo,

I believe Innovision have previously distributed their driver either directly with units, or via their website.  Looking at http://innovisiontech.co/support/ I can see an NVDA driver there, however the link http://innovisiontech.co/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2017/12/BrailleMe_NVDA.zip indicates it is from 2017.

I haven't seen an updated driver myself, however as I don't have one of their units, and I don't compile code directly, I don't necessarily have a reason to have it.  I'd suggest checking with them on where they are at.  I know it is frustrating, and while I normally encourage everyone to use the latest NVDA, in a situation like this, there is nothing wrong with using NVDA 2019.2.1 until the new driver comes out.  If you want to have the best of both worlds, you can have a portable copy of one version and an installed copy of the other - that way you can use the latest NVDA features from 2019.3.1, and still have access to Braille using 2019.2.1.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hello Quentin and others

Our organisation, Blind SA, is the distributor for the BrailleMe in South Africa. Some months back we alerted Innovision, manufacturers of the BrailleMe, about the compatibility issue with Python 3. They gave us the assurance that the updated add-on would be ready by the time NVDA 2019.3 was released, but it has not happened yet.

We had a Skype conference with Shyam Shah of Innovision yesterday and addressed this matter with him. He informed us that they had submitted their add-on to the NVDA people who review and publish add-ons and that they were waiting to hear from you about the add-on.

I wish to hear from you if you can confirm that you have indeed received the add-on and are reviewing it and if you could give an estimate as to when it would be published. I told Shyam that I would check with you and will also forward your response to him.

I also posted this to the NVDA add-ons list. I received two responses there indicating that they don't know anything about an update to this add-on. One person wrote that the add-on might have been sent to you at NV-Access for possible inclusion in the NVDA core, but that is unlikely.

Do you know anything about an updated version of the add-on? This is becoming a real issue for those who have been using the BrailleMe with NVDA. I know the delay is not your fault; I am just trying to find out where the process is and when we could expect an update from the manufacturers.

Kind regards

Christo

RH Voices NVDA 2019.3.1?

Richard Wells

Maybe I just don't know where to look, but I haven't been able to locate
the compatible add-on for RH voices for NVDA 2019.3.1. Is anyone
successfully using this configuration? Thanks
