Re: CD ripping software that works well with NVDA

Huh. Very annoying.

I know it’s sometimes annoying advice, but have you tried reinstalling the programme?

I can certainly verify that my 1.85 works fine on Windows 10. I press f9 and it rips with no complaints. However, there’s that unfortunate bundled software you don’t want, which you’ll have to get around, if you want to install it. It can be done though. As stated in a previous message, I wasn’t aware of it at first and thought something had frozen. I ended up unintentionally saying “yes” to all that stuff, and in the end used malwarebytes to help get rid of it. Obviously, not a really desirable solution.

It seems to run, but if I try to rip anything, it just sits there like a dummy and does nothing at all.  It just won't work.  No error messages or anything to help figure out what's going on.

I’m using Cdex 1.85. But I don’t really see any reason why an older version wouldn’t work. Hell, I’m using Nero Multimedia Suite from 2011 for instance and it works fine on my Windows 10 machine, though I had to do some tweaks. Maybe it would help if you described exactly what happens when you try to run the program?

Lucky you!  I had been using 1.70 of CDex on Win XP and then Win 7 but with Win 10, it just won't work.  I tried compatibility mode and told it the last version it worked in with was Win 7 but it still won't work here.  How did you hold your mouth to coax your machine to run this?  I'd sure like to know how to do it.

Re: NVDA As Windows 10 App

Well sadly this stuff can happen all the time in development of a bit of software, you do put back doors in and debuggers to check things are working right.

Now while we wish they didn't they are all human and sometimes debuggers, back doors and things are left happily inside the code, and then they look and say, why did I do that, how stupid was I and release a patch.

Ofcause it may become a problem if they don't spot it for a while.

Some of these guys do run things late at night.

I remember a game developer  that several users on a forum got a game and well it just didn't run and when it did strange things happened to the systems it ran on.

Turned out the  guy compiled the game last thing at night while pritty much assleep at his desk and forgot an important file, we all had a laugh after.

And while its a bit of a problem more embarassing for the guys envolved it can be an issue for say security or something if things are not noticed right away.

For me this happens if I pour to much onto my plate and well things happen.

Its not meant left laptops or anything but once  I forgot my money belt which I then had to go home to get with all my stuff in it that was a bother, I have a sholderbag now which I never unpack anything bar my phone so that never happens now.

I have on occasion left important things, a charger, a radio, shavers, phones, in places so has my dad.

The most amusing thing was when I was walking with friends, I put the cane on the back seat of their car.

I got out and my brain registered I had picked up my cane, I walked along swing my arms using my cane, and seemed to be ok, until I got back and found the cane where I left it on the back seat.

Sadly in the digital world, people seem to drop and lose their digital certificates all the time, who knows how they drop their keys but getting new ones well it seems to go on and on.

You wander how the big companies get away with it but they do.

So when the big companies leave test stuff still active that shouldn't even exist in the first place its a bit amusing if a bit embarasing for those envolved as long as its fixed as soon as discovered ofcause.

There was the classic issue of an mp3 player with a virus in its firmware that infected pcs.

The issue, a so called pc with the firmware for the units was online, why is unknown, anyway it got a virus first, that infected the firmware files.

There are a lot of issues like this.

The intel cpu issue is a bit more serious, though you do wander how one of the biggest companies doesn't notice a core issue like that.

Well chances if you are in a locked environment you will be in a business environment.

There are probably ways to allow addons through.

Sadly you will probably have to do without win10 apps which may be a problem for users.

I am unsure but maybe you could have a way to have that happen.

What may happen is you can only install addons from the official repos on nvda so the community addons repos would probaby need to get intergrated in windows store.

But no jgt, no extra addons and untrusted things however even if the official repos go in that would be enough for most users.

For my admin use, bar win10 apps I don't need addons and in fact on win7 I don't use addons at all.

Now my personal workstation which is mine is well mine and I do but its not like I would take that about.

A student in theory won't need addons unless its something really special.

Ofcause there is nothing to stop them going to a desktop version later on.

A locked down windows is probably a good idea for students, usbs especially lost ones are good places for malware.

When I was doing uni I was told that while there is security they can't pole everything so every term end all machines including servers are reformatted and reset with default configurations for the next time from backups.

Every thing else for file storage is cloud based.

I once got a virus on several drives on one of the systems here and so did other friends from uni.

The virus was able to be killed but it dammaged the system and a lot of fiddling about had to be done to get rid of it.

Hi,

The biggest advantage is reaching more people. Windows 10 S, and to some extent, other Windows 10 versions with some Group Policy settings applied, will restrict app installation sources to Microsoft Store. This means, if NVDA is approved for distribution on the Store, it can be found by anyone. There will of course be restrictions, but most features will work (unless Store submission policy changes).

Cheers,

Yeah the only way to get anywhere with the store is to shut down NVDA press enter on any of the links than bring it up again.

Hi, I think those are kind of like log files.

When iTunes crashes, It says here have this tmp file.

Not really.

That's why I've uninstalled iTunes, and wont be reinstalling, untill apple fixs it.

OK I’m getting pissed off as of late. I get this DMP file every time I use iTunes with NVDA. I’m using next snapshot currently. All I was doing was hitting NVDA key plusF5 to refresh a page in the iTunes store. If anybody can make heads or tails from this file more power to ya. I’d look over it myself, but don’t know what program I need to open it with. Thanks.

When I start NVDA, the characters written on the keyboard are not spoken, although this option is enabled.

To activate the reading of the characters written by the keyboard, I press "NVDA + 2" to deactivate and, again, the same keys, to activate again, being solved.

When I restart NVDA, the problem reappears.

I am using windows7 pro.

Cheers.

Note: for addenda files, there might be minor mistakes; don’t worry about this.

Go to:

Joseph’s tutorials web site.

The first 7 sections of the tutorials, including more than one part for some sections, are there to download.

Only 8 and 9 and addenda are not there for download yet. You can listen to those sections in the web player.

However, Joseph is putting the entire Tutorial as a zip file on there in a bit.

You should wait for that, and you can download it all at once.

Have a great one!
