Re: Inquiry about 2019.3

If you haven't updated to 2019.2.1, you probably should do that.

2019.3 has not even entered beta yet. Since it is still in alpha, it is impossible to accurately predict when it will come out as a completed release.

I think in some people's minds, it will be out by the end of the year. Personally I don't believe that's reasonable, but it doesn't really matter what anyone thinks. It will be out when it's out, be it in December, or three months from now. Even when it is out, you may have good reasons not to install it--in particular if you use certain critical add-ons that may not have been updated (NVDA Remote, for example). So it is perhaps best to just install the current most recent stable version (2019.2.1), and take a wait and see approach to the next one.

What's funny about that, is that a great many "professional" webinars and such, also have very late recordings, also have trouble distributing files, etc. I am involved with lots of them, and it is very common.

A five day conference done via online presentations (GoToWebinar), that just ended yesterday, and included huge names (not Tony Robins, but people who worked for him, and some big CEOs and such), won't have recordings out for seven-10 days.
And in that case, the recordings are a hundred dollars U.S..

Expecting more than that from a fully volunteer conference, one that does not make any money (unlike the one I used as an example), and which has a very small staff, is entirely unreasonable, and I hope nobody actually does.

Hi Adriani,

Do you mean transcribing audio recording?

If you really you mean “editing” audio recording, how does one do that?

Let me answer to your email as the chair of NVDACon 2019 and clarify hopefully some of your good points.

First of all, thank you very much for presenting at NVDACon this year. It was a great presentation and alot of people enjoyed it. I have learned some new things and I hope you could help many users with your good material.

As you probably might not have seen during the conference, we have distributed your handout several times, starting about two hours before your presentation. We distributed it through a dropbox link in the chat several times also during the presentation. Though, we cannot make sure that people read it completely. And as you certainly know, many people are more confortable with asking a questoin that might be covered by the handout instead of reading the handout itself. This is unfortunately something that we cannot completely avoid.

As regarding the handout and the audio file of your recording, we understand the concerns of users. If possible, we should upload the recording right after the presentation. But unfortunately it is not as simple. Let me explain:

We asked several times through the year if there are people interested in helping us to edit recordings, moderate the conference, engage voluntarely in this wonderful work. And unfortunately we got only two or three new people on the board. But for audio editing we didn’t get anyone else to help us other than the small team that we had last year. And yet this year we will be faster with uploading stuff on the website. But we have to make sure that it has a certain quality.

We do not prefer to distribute your handout without the recording of your presentation because it is something that belongs together. But be sure that we have recorded every session of the NVDACon and we will upload them as soon as possible.

As far as professionality is concerned, if we want to be professional, we need more people on the board. We are doing this voluntarely and we have also full time jobs which are not related to NVDA. If people want to invest time in helping us to make this conference more professional, then please, join and organize it with us together next year.

Actually, I have also created a youtube channel for the conference. But sadly, there were simply no people to moderate it.

And with two chairs on the board only, it is not possible to manage all this work. For a professional conference we would also need a linked in account etc. People often do not realize how much work sticks behind the whole organisation of the NVDACon.

I am sorry that I probably cannot fully satisfy your concerns but this is what we have at this time. I hope that the community becomes more engaged and helps us next time to bring this event at a higher level.

Last but not least, the conference just ended 4 days ago. I wish sometimes users were more patient when it comes to voluntary work. We cannot compare this with professional online webinars or conferences although I think many users do compare it unfortunately.

Thank you Deborah for your feedback and hopefully see you at the conference next year.

I did the lightning talk at NVDACON on learning foreign languages using NVDA. I really enjoyed the conference, and really enjoyed making this contribution. I definitely want to do a session next year, and will send in my list of ideas to the NVDACON planning team, as soon as I figure out who they are.
I got a lot of private messages and some email from people who were very disappointed my session was cut short. I totally understand why it was done, and I should have planned a full session instead of a lightning talk. But this was my first time, so I didn't want to  have empty time to fill.
Anyway, my presentation included a handout and I was more disappointed there wasn't an easy way to distribute it and that it still hasn't shown up on the NVDA Con site together with a recording of my presentation.
I think if we want this conference to have more professional speakers, we need to be a little more professional ourselves. For example, my handout would have answered many questions users might not have had a chance to ask, and encouraging other presenters to prepare handouts would go a long way towards solving the problem of people being in an inconvenient time zone. Having recordings promptly available too would help.
I know we are all volunteers, but I'd encourage people on the list with skills like writing and recording to step forward and contribute as well, so the few people who are tasked with running next year's con will have more help.

What do you want to do with the program?  You may or may not find that Goldwave is the best for what you want to do. Its always recommended by a lot of people, when someone asks for a recording program, but that doesn't mean it’s the best choice for you.  For example, if all you want to do is record and edit MP3 files, MP3 direct Cut is a much better choice.

Move to the link or other item you want to click.  I don't know the laptop commands for the following actions.

Using the desktop layout, hold the NVDA key and press numpad slash to move the simulated mouse to where you are.  The way a lot of people prefer is to hold numpad insert and while doing so, press numpad slash.  Then press just numpad slash to left click the item.  To right click the item, press numpad star, which is the key to the right of numpad slash.  Numpad slash is the second key from the left on the top row of the numpad.

A lot of clickable objects can be activated with enter.  But as with other structures, some web page designers don't make them respond to enter so you have to use other ways, such as the simulated mouse, which is evidently one of the things you use.

I have come across lists of clickable objects on a webpage that are not

Is there another way to access clickable things like this with NVDA?

Hello

I have come across lists of clickable objects on a webpage that are not
links and that do not appear when you enter edit mode either.  They can
be clicked with a mouse, but don't respond to enter or space.

Is there another way to access clickable things like this with NVDA?

This was a problem with QWS and NVDA previous to Windows 10 1909. I work
around it by reading current line when navigating.

Hi,
For some reason, I'm struggling to access the files and folders

of a standard open/save dialog. Even more strangely, it's only in
one program. This has only started happening today, since I
updated
Windows 10 from 1809 to 1909.
When I try to access the list, all I get from NVDA is: "Items
view
list". Any attempt to move up and down the list results in
silence,
and any attempt to move back to parent directories results in a
repeat of "items view list".
Has anyone got any ideas as to why this might be happening, or
how
to fix it?
Cheers.

Re: gold wave

What do you want to do with the program?  You may or may not find that Goldwave is the best for what you want to do. Its always recommended by a lot of people, when someone asks for a recording program, but that doesn't mean it’s the best choice for you.  For example, if all you want to do is record and edit MP3 files, MP3 direct Cut is a much better choice.

Hey there Ron,

Thanks. No... I wanted to change synth...

Hi Ollie,

I am a bit confused because when I read this thread, I see references to an iPhone.  Since this is the list for NVDA, I would think you were referring to NVDA.

Using NVDA, the hotkey to bring up the list of installed synthesizers is Insert + control + S.  Then use up/down arrow keys to choose a different synthesizer.  Make sure you have installed the desired synthesizer first. Otherwise it will not show up in the list of synthesizers after pressing the hotkey.

On the other hand, if you want to change the voice used by a synthesizer, the hotkey is insert + control + V.  This brings up a box with  the default synthesizer.  Then tab once to choose a different voice.

Hello all,

For the first time I-ve installed Windows10 in English, instead of Italian.

Now, for the most part I use English as my operating language on pc, but I do have quite a lot of mail in Italian.

Since i like the English voice / George / of OneCore, but I can-t stand the Italian voices,

I-d ilke to use another tts for Italian.

I have at the back of my mind that therewas either a command or an add/on to change tts on teh fly.

Is that true, or have I just made it up_

What is the command, or where can I get the add/on_

Thanks, sorry about this basic question, but I never needed this before.
