This was a problem with QWS and NVDA previous to Windows 10 1909. I work
around it by reading current line when navigating.

Move to the link or other item you want to click.  I don't know the laptop commands for the following actions.
Using the desktop layout, hold the NVDA key and press numpad slash to move the simulated mouse to where you are.  The way a lot of people prefer is to hold numpad insert and while doing so, press numpad slash.  Then press just numpad slash to left click the item.  To right click the item, press numpad star, which is the key to the right of numpad slash.  Numpad slash is the second key from the left on the top row of the numpad.

A lot of clickable objects can be activated with enter.  But as with other structures, some web page designers don't make them respond to enter so you have to use other ways, such as the simulated mouse, which is evidently one of the things you use.

Re: gold wave

What do you want to do with the program?  You may or may not find that Goldwave is the best for what you want to do. Its always recommended by a lot of people, when someone asks for a recording program, but that doesn't mean it’s the best choice for you.  For example, if all you want to do is record and edit MP3 files, MP3 direct Cut is a much better choice.

Hi Ollie,

I am a bit confused because when I read this thread, I see references to an iPhone.  Since this is the list for NVDA, I would think you were referring to NVDA.

Using NVDA, the hotkey to bring up the list of installed synthesizers is Insert + control + S.  Then use up/down arrow keys to choose a different synthesizer.  Make sure you have installed the desired synthesizer first. Otherwise it will not show up in the list of synthesizers after pressing the hotkey.

On the other hand, if you want to change the voice used by a synthesizer, the hotkey is insert + control + V.  This brings up a box with  the default synthesizer.  Then tab once to choose a different voice.

I don't personally think it is feasible to have goldwave explained to you via a couple of email. If you are unfamiliar with it, you will need to study.
I have put a Dropbox link to a zip containing several hours of tutorials below.
The tutorials are long in the tooth, several years old now and also assume you are using Jaws. Actually I discovered when I went through it, although they did not explain this, also Jaws Scripts.
Nevertheless I know of nothing else for using GoldWave with a Screenreader, so I hope that it will help you get started.
If anybody knows of anything more recent from a purely NVDA perspective I would also be interested.
I would suggest you ensure you also install the NVDA GoldWave addon which may help you with feedback from the program and provide similar extra information as provided by jaws Scripts.
I have only just posted this to DropBox so the link will probably not work immediately.
If it does not work then wait an hour and try again.

Sometimes, in windows, certain DLLs become unregistered for various reasons (usually from software uninstallation or Windows updates). The tool fixes them.
The even more effective answer is: when things are behaving outside the norm for no apparent reason, run that tool--it may fix them, and at worst it will do nothing.

Hi,

In response to Sarah:
Which log am I sending? I get confused with all these different types and levels, the two debug settings, the developer controls and so on.

In response to Gene:
When I am in the dialog, I can backspace up four levels of directories. None of them are providing any feedback other than "Items view list" when I backspace, and silence when I move up and down.
To be honest I'm too confused to really assume anything. It's a case I've never come across before. How can Windows update interfere with a standard dialog? Then again, why should NVDA struggle with it when it usually works with it, as well as dialogs that are far more complicated?

In response to Luke:
What is the com registration tool? I have seen it in the menu but haven't seen it referenced in the documentation.
Cheers,
Damien.

First, is it really inaccessible?  What is files of type set on.  Let's say it's mid.  If, somehow, you are unexpectedly in a folder with no subfolders and no mid files, you will see nothing.  Change files of type to all if there is such a setting and see what you find.  If you can't, then backspace in the name list and see if you move to a folder with subfolders where you can down arrow and see folders displayed.
I may have another suggestion or two, but I'll wait to see what happens.

Hi,
For some reason, I'm struggling to access the files and folders list
of a standard open/save dialog. Even more strangely, it's only in
one program. This has only started happening today, since I updated
Windows 10 from 1809 to 1909.
When I try to access the list, all I get from NVDA is: "Items view
list". Any attempt to move up and down the list results in silence,
and any attempt to move back to parent directories results in a
repeat of "items view list".
Has anyone got any ideas as to why this might be happening, or how
to fix it?
Cheers.
Damien.

My guess is that accessories is the incorrect term for add-ons.

He would like to read every text once, not twice, but Nvda reads him
every letter twice in word.

Yes I realize that. But I don't understand the part about "accessories are prohibited".

While I agree with all of Gene's comments in this thread, I do suggest that you:

Try NVDA -> Tools -> Run COM Registration Fixing Tool.

What confuses me is:
1. The problem only happened after an update, so QWS itself isn't bugged.
