The consistency argument makes sense. How would I go about using that
shortcut though?

stick to consistency where this is concerned, as confusion may arise if they
go down this road. You may be able to disable configuration profile
triggering with a shortcut before you do something like this, to prevent it
from happening when a specific profile is activated.

I tried your suggestions but still have the issue.
Would uninstalling and installing NVDA help?

Nevzat,

What I'm trying to say is that you don't configure NVDA to say it, because
it should say it be default, but my guess is that at some point someone has
put in a dictionary entry that is somehow snagging dot and substituting
nothing.

The first thing to check is the default dictionary, which you can reach via
NVDA+N,P,D,D, then start down arrowing through all the entries, looking for
one where the pattern string contains dot, somewhere.  It need not be a
perfect match, it could be something like ".*dot" or "dot*" but it will most
likely have those three characters somewhere.  If you find one, and have no
idea what it's for, remove it.  Let's hope that whoever created it, and that
could be you, entered a comment field when they did as that makes it much
easier to know what the intent was, and whether removal is likely to trigger
another issue.

If there's nothing there, then try the previously mentioned keyboard
shortcut sequence, but substitute V for that last D to look at the Voice
Dictionary.  It's possible the offending entry could be in there.

Since this persists across having shut NVDA down and started it again, it
cannot be the temporary dictionary.

If you find nothing in the dictionaries that could be causing this, I'm at a
loss.  I'd try changing synth and voice just to see if the issue persists
after having done so.

Hi group,

For some reason NVDA does not speak the word 'dot'.
What do I do to have it speak that word?

I have no objections to anyone attempting to assist anyone else with an issue, but in the appropriate venue.

If there is a need to discuss this further, it should occur either on the NVDA Chat Subgroup or elsewhere.  We're talking about two out of support pieces of software:  Outlook 2010 and Windows 7, which is in direct violation of the written group rules.  I cut a break earlier, but that break is over.

This topic is now locked.  If it needs to be continued, it needs to be continued somewhere else.

Nimer Jaber

Hello everyone,

First, I'd like to wish anyone who celebrates a very happy Passover. חג שמח!

I also want to make an announcement regarding an upcoming podcast. Some will see this as self-promotion. I see it as letting the community know of content which may be valuable to the community. Nonetheless, if you don't wish to know about this announcement, please stop reading.

I am a host of the BlindTechGuys podcast. We will be starting a series on web app accessibility. Examples are the Outlook web interface, Gmail's web interface, Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, Microsoft Office 365 on the web, Facebook, Twitter, and others. I've seen comments that Gmail is not accessible, questions on how to make best use of Facebook without using the mobile interface, and so on. I've also seen comments where blind people say that email threading is painful, not accessible, and they feel forced to use Outlook because Outlook is the only accessible/productive solution for reading mail. This series will take place over the next few weeks, and will address these concerns, and will provide information, and demonstrations, of such web apps using NVDA and, to a lesser extent, JAWS. We go live on Youtube, Periscope, and Facebook, in our Facebook group. The link to watch us live tonight is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7B0SR1okLLs and you can also catch the podcast in your favorite pod catcher once it is released in the next day or two, should you choose to catch the edited version, or wish to not watch on Youtube. If you do come on YouTube, leave us a chat in the chat box, and we'll acknowledge you live, particularly if you have questions as we go along. If you do have vision, please note that the Youtube stream is about the audio, not the video, and you won't see much visuals.

The BlindTechGuys podcast is aimed at discussing Android, iOS, and anything else tech-related which may be interesting to the blindness community. We go live on Sundays at 7:00 PM U.S. Pacific DST, however you can listen to episode at blindtechguys.com, where you can also subscribe. You can also listen to the podcast using your favorite podcatcher, and using your smart speaker of choice. I have no idea, and the information on the ACB webpages about individual episodes doesn't contain what you're asking about with regard to this show.

However, there is an announcement-only Groups.io group dedicated ACB Radio content.
You are more likely to get an answer to your question there if you can find an announcement about the show in question and send a private message to its sender.

Outlook Microsoft 365 Quitting and then Restarting Spontaneously with Some Messages

Jim Fettgather <jimfettgather@...>

Hello.

When opening some lengthy messages with lots of links using most recent NVDA, , Outlook will just quit and then restart itself, this never happens with Windows 10 Mail, so just wondering if anyone has experienced this phenomenon?

Thanks.

Log content indicates that this is indeed a regression in alpha snapshots. I believe a fix is on the way for snapshot users.

Hello all. I have an annoying issue here. I"m running latest version of windows 10 (20h2 19042.868) with latest version of NVDA alpha. When I
alt+tab and when I use the Windows search box, i get an error sound. I
access the Windows search box by pressing the Windows logo key.

For some reason, I"m thinking this could be caused by 12232. Not sure if
this is correct. Hopefully, this one can be fixed soon.

changing speech

Bob Cavanaugh <cavbob1993@...>

Hi all,
Perhaps this may be something for Guithub, but thought I'd start by
posting here. I think maybe there should be an option, or at least
certain settings outside of general, that should be able to be changed
globally, even when application profiles are triggered. For instance,
I was using NVDA today with my wireless earpiece. When I plugged it
in, as usual, NVDA was set to use the speakers, as I don't use this
earpiece all the time. I went in to change the setting, not thinking
about what application I was in, and ended up changing settings for
the Firefox profile, not globally. I can't think of a situation where
I'd want a different synthesizer or sound device when in a specific
application, only maybe the automatic language switching option. So, I
think this should be something always changed globally, or at least
when an application-specific profile is in use, something should pop
up asking if you want to edit the general or the custom profile.
Bob
