I'm wondering if the original reporter had a demo of a later version of office and uninstalled it. This is the main reason for this problem. There is a dll re register patch somewhere, but cannot recall where right now.
Its a different one to the browser one I seem to recall. Brian

I'm going into all this mainly because your message may, if not

As far as playing audio files, Chrome does play audio. I don't

I'd have thought that there could be a way to back it all up, then put it back without doodling about, but maybe there is a way to do all that.

So long as the computer ID doesn't change, you'll be fine.

Hi,
I recently found out CodeFactory is selling a package containing Vocalizer expressive sapi voices that will work with any screen reader.
I am using it right now and have tested it with both Narrator and NVDA. So far, everything is working great.
I especially like the User dictionary.
Unlike the Vocalizer expressive and eloquence for NVDA, from what I've read, you can supposedly transfer your license from your old computer to a new one if it updates.
If any of you are interested, ATGuys is the one selling the product. It's 115 dollars, but keep in mind, it does allow you to use the voices with any screen reader. When you compare it to the Sapi voices for Acapela that cost 299 dollars, it's a pretty good deal.

Re: OEClassic gets an update fixing more accessibility issues

Gene

A Google search for OE Classic identities shows this article as the first result:

Yes, it has identities.  It doesn't say whether they are available in both the free and paid versions.

See this page, containing a table about features.  You can't read it using table commands but just down arrowing through it reads self-explanatory lines and it makes perfect sense and is in logical order.
Identities are only available in the pro version, which you must pay for.
Message rules are available in both versions.

The question is, does it have identities in a free or relatively cheap
version. This and message rules are the most important things along with

I did some web crawling. The pro version has identities, so not sure if that
is something you want, but I would comb through all of their news section
( https://www.oeclassic.com/news ) to see what features have been added. The
free version is on 27 now. 28, the more accessible version, will be free
when the pro version shoots up to 29. I can wait. No big deal for me, but I
think it is a one time payment? And you get upgrades for life? I'll have to
look at the website again though.

Re: a problem reading a pdf file

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Its a problem with the file normally. its probably been made with a different package. The problem is that the character nvda sees is not actually displayable so this is why its not actually 'seen' as such.

Not a lot one can do unless somebody at NV access can figure out what the character is which is coming out to the screenreader and mask it out somehow.

No, I suspect that an update to the 52 version of Firefox has deliberately

made it a higher priority task on processors so it runs faster, on faster
hardware, but has very bad effects on other hardware, depending on their
age. I'd not have expected an I5 processor to notice but it does as the ff
in use is the 32 bit version.

I'm quite new at these things but I tend to go a bit against the grain. What would happen if you just used it and ignored the mumbo jumbo about sanctions. Will you really get into trouble if you use the adobe suite? Why not just use it and ignore everything in the licence agreement, or use a proxy and pretend you are in the US. I do this when I need to shuttle my internet trafic to another state or country when my ISP is doing somethingn I don't like I'd say just use the software and don't worry about getting into trouble.

No.  They have worked on a method for backing up data so that when you
reinstall the program, you can put the data back.  I don't know how
comprehensive the data backed up is nor do I know whether it is considered

Re: issue with google chrome 64 update.

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Hmm, I'm not convinced as i do not think it was ever patched for XP and my xp machine is not set up to get windows updates. it is also noticeably slower in all computers updated or not. I do not think browsers gave any patch for these problems since only operating system code is involved and firefox could not patch that.
No, I suspect that an update to the 52 version of Firefox has deliberately made it a higher priority task on processors so it runs faster, on faster hardware, but has very bad effects on other hardware, depending on their age. I'd not have expected an I5 processor to notice but it does as the ff in use is the 32 bit version.

the issue for slowness in firefox 52.6 i think its because of spectre

i read in some websites that the patches for fixing spectre bug,
causes slowness in previous windows and older hardwares.

Well the webie pdf reader can read the text in pdf files and its free, so I'd doubt if its going to be an issue. Also what is to stop one of us finding the old archive of adobe reader that does work in xp and accidentally leving it in dropbox for a while.

I don't know for some ridiculous reason Microsoft do not want you to use their own software, and yet are unable to supply as good an email and news solution as Outlook Express. There is I fancy, somewhere in Microsoft somebody or a view that new must be better, without anybody querying it. Look at what this arrogance is doing to Skype.
Its exactly the same thing that caused Edge to be rubbish at the start and arguably still is rubbish from the usability point of view.
