Trouble with activating links in Chrome, NVDA 2019.3.1

Marcia Yale

The title says it all--I have found that I can't activate links on several
websites lately. One of them is the Google search engine, another is my
bank's website. Is anyone having the same issue and, if so, have you found a
workaround?

Greetings all,
I have had great success with Pontes Media downloader version 2.0 converting YouTube files into mp3, wav etc.  .  However, recentlyone of my students who has been working with a laptop with Win7 had it upgraded to Win10.  Now When accessing the Pontes Media downloader exe file in that program folder or from the desktop, I am returned to the folder where the exe file is located and the program doesn’t load.  Has anyone else had such an experience?
Thanks for any advice in advance.

Hi, Yes it just sits there and does nothing! it's a shame as it was a fantastic program, I just do not have the time to trouble shoot.

It's definitely been the standard behaviour for... a very long time.  If not to force changing between browse and focus modes, why ARE you pressing NVDA+spacebar then and what do you expect to happen?

Its unfortunate that some people can't distinguish between constructive and destructive criticism.  I hope that this message will allow you to see that this is constructive criticism.

I'm pointing out that your subject line tells us nothing and that many people will just skip messages with such subject lines.  If you don't take what I wrote in the spirit of me presenting useful information that will benefit you and other list members that is unfortunate.  Subject lines such as a question, curious, and so on, tell us nothing useful.  the subject line is called that because it tells us the subject of what a message deals with, such as, can't open the NvDA menu, or Chrome browser doesn't behave properly when filling out forms, or Winamp no longer plays MP3 files, etc.

Many people decide whether to read messages based on the subject line.  If you want to consider what I wrote as negative criticism, that's unfortunate.

John, you should install the classic editor as opposed to the
Gutenberg editor. Just go to 'Plugins > Add new' & search for classic
editor. Then install & activate it as usual.

Might I also suggest you update your site, as you've got quite a few
pending. Whenever you're having problems w/NVDA, it's a really good
idea to first ensure that all updates have been performed in the area
where you're having difficulties, in this case your WordPress site. I
think those steps should solve your difficulties.

Subject: Re: [nvda] question about Pontes Media Downloader not working in Win10

Hi Dan,

I would advise you to upgrade to Pontes Media Downloader 3.x.  It seems to work better with Windows 10.  On occasion, it becomes non functional, but a simple reinstall fixes the problem.

Greetings all,

I have had great success with Pontes Media downloader version 2.0 converting YouTube files into mp3, wav etc.  .  However, recently one of my students who has been working with a laptop with Win7 had it upgraded to Win10.  Now When accessing the Pontes Media downloader exe file in that program folder or from the desktop, I am returned to the folder where the exe file is located and the program doesn’t load.  Has anyone else had such an experience?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Issue switching between browse & focus mode with NVDA+Spacebar

But it's correct.   There is a very good reason that the group rules include the following, which was just sent to the membership in the Monthly Group Rules Reminder for the NVDA Group (nvda@nvda.groups.io):

4.  Think very carefully about the title you are going to give any topic you post.  The topic is the first (and, sometimes, only) thing a member sees and that may be how they decide if they’re going to look further.   Generic titles, such as “Help Me!,” are not helpful because they give no idea about what.  Compare that to something like, “NVDA not reading Excel cell contents,” or, “NVDA setting for pronouncing numbers,” where the exact issue where help is needed is front and center.   Even something like, “Need help with the following . . .,” lets the reader know that you are going to present a list of issues.

The use of meaningless topic titles serves absolutely no one, and they should be avoided.  Topic has now been changed to, "Issue switching between browse & focus mode with NVDA+Spacebar," which is actually descriptive.

Please make any follow-ups to this topic.
