Hi guys

is the servers playing up? For the last couple of days i have been trying to download a master snapshot and each time it comes down it is only about 540k. Is the server playing up? for when i go to click on it up comes a security smart screen I think it is the windows one.

I am also wondering if things have changed like it is a stub then it gets the main file? I am guessing not.

I usually like once a week to see what might of gone into it each week.

Has any one else had the same problems?

This was doing it from inside of the master snapshot under the help section.

I have also tried it from the main page and still got the same results.

This was again on feb 18th and also tried on the 17th

Yeah I might have to do that. For my class though, I have to send links from websites and text from my computer to a student so this in fact will not work for my job, at least i don't think so. They are not aloud to hear my screen reader as I type and I'm not waring two pairs of headphones.

I think what you need is the W-E Emergency Removal Utility. If no one else sends it to you, I could put it in my Dropbox and send you the download link.

Repeatedly, I have tried doing the most recent Windows 10 update. Get to the step where the installer asks me to uninstall this program as it cannot. The program at fault is, Window eyes 9.1. It is not listed as an installed program in Programs and Features, “add or remove”. I have searched the entire computer for Window Eyes and GW Micro remains and find nothing.

Is it possible that the installer is finding a remaining entry in the registry?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated,

Re: usable torrent client recommendations?

JM Casey <crystallogic@...>

Hey guys.
Unless I missed something, noone was wasting time by condemning torrents in general within this thread. I think Brian was merely saying he wouldn't put a client on his main computer. I don't really think it's that justified, but that's fine. I no longer have a secondary computer, in any case.

Thanks for the suggestion of Qbittorent. I ended up doing what John suggested, and it got rid of the uTorrent advertisements. I'm now quite happy, although to my surprise the program still crashes if I leave it unattended for hours. Oh well. At least it looks a lot cleaner.

Re: usable torrent client recommendations?

John Isige

I didn't particularly like it. You can't get to the downloading torrents, as far as I can tell. In UTorrent or however you spell it, once you get rid of the ads, you can tab to the list. NVDA doesn't read it by default, i.e. if you arrow through it, but you can use screen review or object, I forget which right at the moment, to see what you're dealing with.

Also, just for fun I deleted a torrent after it downloaded. That made it throw fifty million notifications about an I/O error, which didn't even cease after I exited the program. I had to uninstall it to make them stop. That's just sloppy. If the file was in use, as it clearly should have been since the program kept trying to access it, it shouldn't have allowed it to be deleted.

That's just me though. I mean it's not horrible or anything, and in some ways it was a bit more accessible. I just don't really see a reason to switch. I should add I deleted the downloaded folder from Windows Explorer, not QBittorrent itself. But again, I shouldn't have been allowed to do that, since QBittorrent was clearly trying to access it on a regular basis after the deletion occurred, it threw a notification every few seconds.

This is making me miss AIM more and more. Honestly. Hell, even MSN messanger was good! well, it worked.
Anyway, small rant over! LOL. I log onto the public TT server most times and create password protected rooms. Thanks for the server invite! I may consider it.
My contact page, below, has all the ways someone can get in touch with me. I don't do real time VOIP chatting all that much anymore unless someone really wants to. Even then it's in hangouts or something where I control the time.

Re: nvda as windows 10 app

Well for students and some enterprise businesses I think its to stop people unknowingly load a virus on your system.

And if nothing can install itself hopefully no one can get in.

An admin probably could but even so.

For standard users that control things that hopefully will not be a problem.

I mean that the environment of universal apps is very restrictive on what any program can do when its being used. IE add ons in nvda would only be usable if that add on was also approved for the store.
I can understand that in some very paranoid environments, this is a good thing, but for the rest of us it seems a step too far and I might even say, a situation where you are lulled into thinking your system is impenetrable by naughty people when in fact there is no such environment in existence.

Re: skype phase out

Hmph, well I really hope they do, they were doing so good with their userbase.

When I started with win10 we had music, and I used it could have used it a lot more.

I spent a lot of cash on it.

Then music went away.

They got the apps in accounts now so at least things can be done without their stupid microsoft account junk.

They have local account questions I wander if that happens only if you have a password or not.

From then on  things have changed and changed to a point who knows.

With skype going away I guess we have to learn the app but to be honest who knows.

Hi.

Yeah we can no longer get skype classic anymore people have put it out on dropbox, technically you can still get it if you have a tablet but still.

Someone needs to tell microsoft that skype 8 is not really that accessible, and as well as that maybe the classic desktop interface at least some of it should become part of the skype app.

For now, skyprivate seems to have the file.

http://download.skyprivate.com/skype/win/SkypeSetupFull.exe

The article I got from it was updated on the 15th and explains how to get skype going and I found it with skype classic on google search.

I am going to have to backup my skype classic to my dropbox though its a real shame ms is killing skype for its users now.

I still use it off and on if skype is becomming inaccessible, well that will become a problem.

I used it to help family members get a job, if it goes away I will have to say I can no longer help anymore.

Well if they would improve skype 8 to be more accessible or improve

thats all we ask.

Now it does appear that the download links for skype classic have
changed, I have found 1 link to get skype classic, but to be honest, its
really not skype classic users want, I don't really want skype classic,
I just want to use the latest skype in an accessible way.

To my best knowledge if we all screen reader users regardless of what

Hi,
I’ll be abandoning Skype when 7 dies as well. I’ve had a mess with 8,
and as far as I’m concerned, it stinks.
It’s a shame though. While I also have a TeamTalk server, and while the
quality is indeed a lot better, TeamTalk is meant, A, for teams, and B,
not for telephony. To use TeamTalk as a substitute for Skype would be a
pain, since someone would first have to contact you by other means to
ask you to come on TT, something which obviously isn’t necessary with
Skype.
Not only that, but perhaps the biggest issue is that Skype was my
primary telephone.
So yeah. Going Skypeless will indeed take a lot of getting used to.
I can’t ever see me going back to Skype. Crashes, accessibility
shortfalls and process hogging are only the primary issues. And there’s
me thinking Skype could never be any slower and broken than it already
was in 7.
Cheers.
Damien.

The below page from Doug lee explains the phasing out of Skype 7 in
favor of Skype 8 or the Universal App on windows 10. I have no idea what
you folks on XP will do, but I stopped using Skype in favor of team talk
anyway.

Another brief comment or two.  In future if something like this comes up, I'll let the list know if the problem has been resolved when it is.  I didn't anticipate this discussion.  I thought that if nothing happened, the topic would stop.  But given the strong feelings some list members have, I should have anticipated and stopped the discussion by telling the list that the problem was resolved.  I did notify the owner off list but that didn't stop this situation from arising.

Also, I'm sorry if some people think I've been to critical in my response but I feel strongly about this.  The contact the owner link is there for a reason.  I hope no one was offended by the tone of my last message but if a situation like this arises in future, please don't pour oil on the fire by discussing the matter on list.  Write to the owner's contact address.

I shall now lock the topic.

One final comment and then I shall lock the topic.  Doesn't anyone have any common sense?  If Maheen is unstable and disruptive, then why is anyone discussing him on the list?  Does it really take a masters degree in psychology to realize that this discussion should have been directed to the contact the owner's link which is given in every e-mail?  This is definitely not the way to handle such a situation.  If such a situation arises in future, please discuss it off list.  this is strictly an administrative matter and is completely off topic for this list and, if Maheen were still a member of the list, what do you think you would be accomplishing by having him see all these very negative comments about him on the list.  You are just asking for trouble if your comments are true.

Again, doesn't anyone have any common sense?

The issue no longer exists.  Maheen joined the list to promote his discussion group.  I kept him moderated and, when he sent a message promoting it, I wrote him privately explaining that the message isn't remotely on topic and won't be allowed.  I don't know what Maheen is doing now.  I haven't followed him to any extent in the past.  I know a very little about him which is why I kept him moderated to see if he played buy the list rules.  He didn't.  But whatever you think of him, he didn't make a fuss, he didn't try to persuade me to approve the message, he did nothing but unsubscribe.

The matter is closed.  I strongly don't want any more comments on this issue.  I'll lock the thread if it continues.

Hm. Has Maheen promised to be nice and asked for forgiveness for all
his past misdeeds. I know he likes to claim that his medications are
now adjusted properly and that he's now  a Christian and all... Has he
promised that no more death threats will be forthcoming, that he will
not try to disrupt the list in any way like sending hundreds of
nonsensical messages within one hour, etc?

Is the list owner Nimer, willing to take this risk?

And most important of all, who is Bob?
