Hi Luke,I think I raised this issue on the addons or devel lists, I can't remember which, last year. Somebody was able to point to what might be happening, but it didn't present any obvious way to solve the problem, other than to install using an admin account, or rewrite the Null-Soft installer. It says 68.12.0. Although that's strange because it just updated a few

For PowerShell users: if you get a warning about PSReadLine in PowerShell 7...
Hi all,
The following was discussed on a Windows 10 forum, but it prominently affects NVDA users who use PowerShell: In PowerShell 7, a message about PSReadLine will be printed. This happens if PowerShell detects that you are using a screen reader that sets system-wide screen reader active flag while running. So far, NVDA and JAWS users are affected, and initial research shows that this warning was ultimately caused by compatibility issues between PowerShell 7 and NVDA. In the meantime, if you do need to use PSReadLine module, do either; 2. If NVDA is installed, restart NVDA with screen reader flag off (Run dialog, “nvda –no-sr-flag” without quotes). This means apps that rely on screen reader flag will not be able to detect that NVDA is running, and should be used as a temporary workaround. I began reaching out to PowerShell engineers at Microsoft in hopes of getting to the bottom of this – finding out which compatibility issues were identified in hopes that it can be resolved soon. Cheers, Joseph

Re: sapi4?

Which SAPI 4 engines are you using? (and are they (legally) free to download? I still don't have a SAPI4 engine to test with) If you try SAPI5 or eSpeak-NG or something else does it work? (Just ascertaining the issue is with SAPI4 / those voices rather than say your sound driver) Quentin.

Hi Luke,
<snip The issue goes away if you install as an admin user. PL] HMM, I was running the installer with elevated privilege's and not as an administrative user. You make a very interesting point. I wonder how to determine whether the problem is NVDA or the installer? Pranav

I was trying to install mysql and found the installer to be inaccessible.I don't know the answer to that question. However I do know, that some installers, when run as a non-admin user who then has to elevate using a password, do not work correctly. I have found this, for example, with NotepadPlusPlus, among others. The issue goes away if you install as an admin user. Luke

I'm running Thunderbird 78.2.0, and have same issues. I recall that this was supposed to be fixed.

from mack using win 7 64 bit with latest NVDA. I must have checked a box in prefferances. using the wev interface with chrome to read my emails in G mail. every time I check the box to delete messages in the inbox or in the trash folder, and then perform the delete function, NVDA says "alert, click to learn" No bid deal really, I can still do everything I need to do, just wondering why the extra verbage and can I turn it off, thanks.

Re: problem with search edit box in folders

I think there are advantages to needing to press enter in search. Some screen readers would start talking to much. And:Slow computers would have trouble keeping up when it would start searching as soon as you type.

Even my very fast laptop with ssd would really struggle and NVDA would talk to much and I'd loose focus. It would be nice to have the option to switch behaviors. Bob

Re: issues with quick nav of thunderbird and NVDA
David Goldfield
This interests me because I also notice similar behavior with version 3.0 of this addon. The addon appears to work as expected until I restart TB. Upon restarting TB the addon is still enabled but the addon itself acts as if it has been disabled. First letter navigation does not move to the relevant folder and the addon's option does not appear in the context menu. If I go into addon settings and disable the addon and then enable it the addon works properly once again until I close and restart TB. I wrote to the addon author who was unable to reproduce the issue. I then asked about it on the Thunderbird support list and was given a suggestion which didn't work for me. I have reinstalled TB as well as removed and then reinstalled the addon.

I've done just this so many times till I finally realized the difference in layouts. I have a laptop and a desktop and keep switching and forgetting keystrokes.
I need to be careful using nvda plus a to read to end while in
thunderbird as a alone archives a message.

Yeah, but with the newest version there are still issues. I
have to go in and disable and then re-enable the extension every time I bring up Thunderbird.
I wish someone could do something about it because it is getting irritating. ;)

Re: Extra verbosity in Thunderbird
Hello all, I also have the status bar of Thunderbird showing in the program's main window and I don't observe the described behavior. But I'm reading messages from the main window of Thunderbird (via the message list and the message pane). Most screen reader users seam to read messages in a separate window. And we come to the main thing here - the option to show/hide the status bar in Thunderbird is independent for the separate Thunderbird windows like the main window, the optional separate window for message reading, the message composer window, etc. So, if you've disabled the status bar from within Thunderbird's main window, it will not affect its behavior for the message reading window and it will probably still be visible in it. And if you're reading messages from within that message reading window, this may be why you still hear those messages - the status bar is still shown for the message reading window. Mind you, this automatic speaking of status bar messages should
not be happening even with the status bar shown It was fixed for
the main window of Thunderbird, but not for the other windows like
the ones for message reading and for composing a message. This
should be reported to and fixed by the Thunderbird developers. Has
anyone done that? If not, I may do it these days. The only place
that I find this automatic speaking of status bar messages useful
is in the a"Advanced Search" window, where thanks to those
messages I know the status of the performed search, without
needing to manually read the status bar. ______ На 31.8.2020 г. в 22:07, Hope

Extra verbosity in Thunderbird
Robert Logue
I'm reading messages in TB but am now getting extra verbiage such as notifications about what TB is doing while NVDA is automatically reading the new message.
Reads something like this: I bolded the extra verbage. Moved 9 messages from NVDA to Trash

Bob,
I would uninstall and reinstall Quick Folder Navigation if the version you have went in a long while ago.
