office 2019 word and nvda
Hi.
I have not got a log for this but it happens every time I open office 2019 and then after closing it. Nvda will stop responding for 10 seconds like look as if it just died but will eventually come back. After that, nvda will not read the search box in windows properly in the start menu till I restart nvda. I am not an office user though just an admin for a few systems with it. Its happened on a couple systems and now another user on another list I am on reports this. So I think it can be reproduced. I have yet to look for a log, but since its happened on 3 other occasions I thought I'd ask here and see if someone else can confirm it for me and either get me to report it or set the ticket.

Re: NVDA Highlighter Window
Quentin Christensen
If it happens to come back and you happen to have NVDA set to record logs at Debug level, I'd be interested in a copy of the log. It's not the desired behaviour (normally focus highlight doesn't require its own window), so if it does happen in a particular situation (and even better if we can narrow down what causes it) we can investigate. Regards Quentin.

Re: A possible problem with the beta
Quentin Christensen
Just checking Gene, the subject says possible problem with the beta, but in the message you say it's been an issue in recent versions - Is something different in the Beta? Does it recognise if you use one of the other options to report capitals (say cap or beep)? And can you otherwise change the pitch of the voice? The last SAPI 4 issue I recall being involved in was this one: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/8400 interestingly also about pitch - there was a problem if you set pitch to 100% (because in rounding it ended up trying to set it to 101% from memory, which was out of range). Actually, I never did get confirmation from the original user whether that issue was still present - so if you are interested, if you could check that issue out as well that would help too please. Kind regards Quentin.

Re: NVDA Highlighter Window

That's a little odd. If you have a checkbox that's half-checked,
just use space to toggle it until it's unchecked. If you don't
need the focus highlighting that is.

Re: problems with braille and NVDA

Hi Afik,
When you press the arrow keys on your QBraille, does it emulate cursor movement? Have you enabled hybrid mode? Do you still have a Braille connection to NVDA? Does the same behaviour occur if you restart NVDA with addons disabled? Thanks Sam

Hi Thanks, I haven’t altered my settings recently and it suddenly appeared but has now gone. I have just checked the Vision settings, Enable Highlighting is half-checked but I’ve no idea what that means and Highlight System Focus is checked.
Cheers Chris

If you have it set to highlight the focus, or browse mode cursors visually, that’s what this is. If you turn those off in the visuals category of the Settings dialogue, the window will go away. Otherwise, just ignore it as it’s related to the focus highlighting.

Windows 10 App Essentials: 20.07.2 is on its way, 20.08 to require NVDA 2020.1 or later
#addonrelease
Hi all,
Windows 10 App Essentials 20.07.2 is on its way – I expect it’ll go live later today. This release includes latest translations and Open With dialog fix that was originally sent to version 2004 users will now show up for folks using Version 1909.
IMPORTANT: version 20.07.2 is the last version to support NVDA 2019.3. The next release (20.08) will require NVDA 2020.1 or later due to add-on support policy (Windows 10 App Essentials supports current, immediate past, and development versions of NVDA; by August 2020, this set will consist of 2020.1 (immediate past), 2020.2 stable (current), and NVDA development snapshots).
Cheers, Joseph

I should add that I am using Windows 7.

I checked now with ESpeak and Microsoft Anna, and pitch change works. However, I wonder if pitch change doesn't work with Eloquence since Eloquence and Via Voice are so similar. If it doesn't work with Eloquence, that is a more serious problem since many people use it. Gene

Which is another way of asking if the problem is so limited it may not be worth addressing or if it’s a more general one. I've noticed this in recent versions of NVDA. I wonder if it is related to the change in Python. Gene

Re: Focus Highlight and NVDA 2020.1
Hi, I get a suspicion that somehow settings from the add-on version of Focus Highlight might be interfering with NVDA built-in version. To confirm, reset settings to defaults, and try if Focus Highlight option is usable. Cheers, Joseph

Brian,
I had a look through our issues and while there are several there for, or involving, focus highlight, none seemed to match the problems you've encountered. If it does happen again, please do send me a log if you can (and if you can, ideally at debug level and with add-ons disabled, just in case).
One thing I did just try, is setting Windows 10 to High Contrast Mode and using Focus Highlight, and that works for me with Windows 10 1903 and 1909 using NVDA 2020.2beta2 at least.
Regards
Quentin.
