It just proves to me that there is no such thing as perfect security.
Its all a trade off when it comes down to it, and thus I still mainly use msse on this 7 machine and run Superantispyware when I feel like it.
The real trick is to stop any other user on your network or on your machine going click happy on any old link. We are in a privileged position here, as many phishing emails have hidden links with graphics of the correct link over them. we do not see these spoof links and see the real wrong ones on both web sites and emails so we should hardly ever go to a dodgy web site accidentally if we pay attention to the actual address in a link. heh, just like the us arrested Phil Zimmerman (the inventor of pgp (pretty good privacy), because he refused to do what they wanted with the pg program. As a result, to prevent further harassment, he released the pgp code as opensource. And interestingly enough, they released him after someone found out about the timing attack, which would allow you to decrypt pgp keys w/o the original private key. Now, isn't that interesting?

Surely this should be picked up from the computer system settings, same as
Excel and similar applications do? Each locale has its settings for currency
symbol, decimal separator, measurement units, etc.

Using that simply means the weather add-on is always consistent with
everything else on the machine.

Ron, the us is likely the only country that still uses the period as a number separator anymore.  Many many countries use the comma as a separator, so the us is in the minority here.  To me, it makes more sense to use a period for decimals, and commas for digit separation, but that's probably because that's what I've seen all my life.  I'm sure it would be different if I'd been raised in Europe or some place similar that does things backwards. :)

Hi Adriano,

I noticed in the latest update that in the English System measurements, the period pronounced in English as dot has been replaced by the comma (,).  For example, the barometric pressure is reading as 29,29 rather than 29.29.

Incidentally, the barometric pressure discrepancies of about .5 MM of mercury is still prevalent and has been without change for a year now.

I didn't say it was the only country, I said it was likely the only country.  Note the likely word.  That means that it's possible that the us was the only one doing so, not a solid fact. I knew that Canada used it, (but as the article pointed out, only in the english speaking parts, not in the french speaking portion), so I discounted that, because it wasn't the whole country doing so.

Admittedly, I wasn't aware of most of the other countries listed, but that's precisely why I said likely instead of definitely.

On 9/15/2017 9:32 AM, Antony Stone wrote:
Suggesting that "the US is likely the only country that still uses the period

According to the wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal_point
these are the countries which use a dot as the decimal separator:

Australia
Bangladesh
Botswana
British West Indies
Brunei
Cambodia

heh, just like the us arrested Phil Zimmerman (the inventor of pgp (pretty good privacy), because he refused to do what they wanted with the pg program.  As a result, to prevent further harassment, he released the pgp code as opensource.  And interestingly enough, they released him after someone found  out about the timing attack, which would allow you to decrypt pgp keys w/o the original private key.  Now, isn't that interesting?

Kaspersky is quite good, in fact. Only a bit cumbersome, if anything.

Suggesting that "the US is likely the only country that still uses the period

According to the wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal_point

Australia
Bangladesh
Botswana
British West Indies
Brunei
Cambodia

Hi Dan,

Damn, I know, but use the comma myself, many have asked really.
We do so, let's put it to a vote.
comma yes or comma no?
If no one participates I'll leave the comma, after all, separates only 2 decimal places.

Cheers

Hmmm, why not a decimal point instead of a comma?  It would be more standard.

Hi,

I installed the new update and when I press NVDA+w the wind data is incorrect.  I live in Lawrenceburg Kentucky and it says the wind is East Southeast at 435 mph.

I can promise it isn't blowing that hard. ;-))

Thanks.

Re: NVDA Causes Open Office to stop Responding

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

I got the impression he was suggesting after an install nvda vanished. I find this hard to believe, certainly it can lock up windows by throwing an alert up that cannot be minimised and will not speak either, but the only way it can hide it is if something else has done it. Open office itself may have some dodgy code, but seldom causes real issues until you uninstall a copy that was installed before nvda was installed, then as sometimes it forgets to fix some bits of registry it alters, all sorts of odd things occur. Often one has to set a system point first before you install it and then after you uninstall it run the restore point and hope it puts stuff back. Brian
