Customizing Announcement of Command Keys

Hello,

I am aware that if you go into the NVDA menu keyboard settings, it is possible to turn on and off the announcement of command keys. I am wondering if there is any way to customize this. I want to hear NVDA say control C when I copy text, control V when I paste, but it is very annoying to hear down arrow every time I hit the down arrow. Can I set this so I can hear some of these keystrokes, but not others?

It automatically reads the message but I've seen many complaints about extraneous speech such as the subject line being read twice and I've seen this happen when I was playing with the program many years ago.  Opening a message and using the speak to end eliminates all such speech and results in only the message being read, nothing else.  You may have to experiment a bit to see how long you should wait before opening the message and entering this command.  As I've said before, screen-readers need help at times to do what you want them to do.

I think people have to have been very lucky then, as I can not get that to
work here properly in a portable tbird.
 I've got to go to find some tutorials.
 Seems to me that all the help in tbird assumes you can see the screen and
have a mouse. Although they do list the shortcut keys some of them include
mouse actions to finish or start them which seems a bit silly.

You're probably adding unnecessary steps.  Manually turn on forms mode as I suggested at the outset before doing anything else.  Then use alt down arrow.  I don't know if that will work around the problem but once you manually go into forms mode, NVDA isn't supposed to automatically go into browse mode again until you manually turn on browse mode.

Ok, solved. It is not very confortable but you got it.

In presence of a combobox, go to forms mode. alt-down arrow.
Automatically it swithces to browse mode. Go another time in form mode
and then you can select the item.

At the following page there is directions on how to do this moving columns etc it can be found at http://www.accessibilitycentral.net/accessible%20email%20client%20mozilla%20thunderbird.html

You will need to jump down by headings to that section.


You can also check under the view menu  and check the menus you want spoken.

It is the sort menu but the column way is better then you can rearrange them to hear certain things first.

You need to use the nvda key + ctrl key + the letter F to do the find command.


If i remember correct as well it is the nvda key + F3 key to find the next occurrence of that word and if you had the nvda key + shift key + F3 key it will do it in reverse.


I would have to double check but am sure it is. Where i refer to the nvda key this is either your insert key or extended insert key or caps lock key depending which one you chose.

It is not a real tutorial, but you can read the documentation:
nvda menu, preferences, Weather Plus Settings submenu,Documentation, Weather Plus first settings.html".
You can learn the commands from the file "Readme.html" or from the file  Weather Plus, "nvda menu, tools, Manage addons... select "Weather Plus" and press "About add-on..."

What do you see about Weather Plus  from tools, manage addons?

There must be only "Weather Plus; Status: running; Version: 4.5 15.09.2017".

If the status is remove, has not been properly uninstalled.

I followed your instructions and found the combo box. I noticed it says the
box is collapsed, so I pressed spacebar to expand it, waited a few seconds
for it to open the list, then was able to use up/down arrows to navigate.
It also works with first letter selection.

In this case you can also hit enter to switch to forms mode, and enter again to open the combobox, then use the arrows as normal. It won't go back to browse mode.

Actually, while generally, slow NVDA isn't a problem for me, it does happen when typing comments indo facebook.  Otherwise, I have no issues of the sort described.  But, since facebook is something I rarely use, I'm not really all that concerned about it. :)

I thought I mention Current W10. Before NVDA 2017 my PC was going fast and NVDA was doing well. Nothing change with my PC. It is not my PC, again it is not my PC.

Is the "Use NVDA on the log-on screen" checked? If not, check it and see what comes of it. It is in the preferences menu, general settings submenu. Tab to the very mentioned option and check whether it is checked, as it should be.

I think people have to have been very lucky then, as I can not get that to work here properly in a portable tbird.
I've got to go to find some tutorials.
Seems to me that all the help in tbird assumes you can see the screen and have a mouse. Although they do list the shortcut keys some of them include mouse actions to finish or start them which seems a bit silly.

I'm not sure why this question with thunderbird even comes up. When you
press enter on a message, thunderbird automatically reads the message,
there's no need to arrow down or use read to end at all, it
automatically reads when the message opens, and it does it all by
itself, the NVDA support for thunderbird is very good in that regard.

Hi when you are reading threw your e-mail message and it has blank lines
in it.

How do you get Nvda to not read the blank lines so you don't hear blank
blank blank.

When harrowing threw your blank lines.
