Re: Read-all problem with a website

I don't know what is causing the problems. Try a different synthesizer. I don't know what voices are available to you but you should be able to test with e-speak. If you want to hear the article read by the same voice you are using, try selecting the page once its loaded, control a, then copying it to the clipboard.

Open Notepad and paste it in. Search for the beginning of the article, or for the title, something you know is there and that will be easy to find. You can probably just search for two, three, or maybe four words of the title or the first sentence. In this case, I just searched for the words a question. You shouldn't have any problems reading in Notepad. Gene

What you'll hear is that the end few words of a paragraph get repeated at the start of the next paragraph, and sometimes good chunks of a sentence don't get spoken at all (the text not being spoken isn't quite so evident in the mp3 extract, but it was very noticeable further down the article). In the recording I'm using the SAPI5 voice Zira at speed 85, and I can confirm it is also producing the same effects at slower speeds, as it is if I change the voice to SAPI5 voice Hazel. I'm using NVDA Version: 2020.1, windows 10 Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.900), and am getting these effects in both Mozilla Firefox version 78.0.1 (64-bit) and Google Chrome (which is up to date) Version 83.0.4103.116 (Official Build) (64-bit) Does anybody know if this is an NVDA issue, or if it's something I can report to the Pulse organisation for them to hopefully sort out? Hi,
Ever sense I installed NVDA 2020.2 beta 2, the word ‘baseline’ is spoken at the beginning of almost every line of text NVDA reads. I am using Windows 10 (1909). Is there a way to turn this off?

Hi
You might need some sighted help to do the following.
This is off my website and it may depend on the version you are using of nvda.
One part is for the older nvda and one for the newer nvda do not enter those details only the lines below each one.
Do you know the nvda version?
The very last part was for the run com tool but if you have done that and rebooted and it is still playing up look for your version number of nvda.
The later one has fixed it also on later versions of windows .
hope it helps

Well I'd check that you have the latest versions of chrome and edge and components of your brousers in about:components. Components update all the time. Edge has an update today, chrome either has had one or will have one soon to catch up.

Cearbhall,
Have you tried restarting NVDA with all add-ons disabled and seeing if the issue persists? If not, try that. If the issue stops, then use Add-Ons Manager to disable (but not remove) all of your add-ons and then re-enable them one by one until the issue recurs. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. NVDA saying unknown again in browsers
Cearbhall O'Meadhra
Hi,
Just as in 2018 under issue #33784 NVDA says “unknown” instead of reading any content in Firefox and Chrome. It does work in Edge. All latest version of windows 10, Firefox, Google Chrome, Easy keys, and NVDA 2020.1.
The earlier issue seemed to relate to a windows update but I don’t think there was an update in this case today.
Can anyone point to a solution? This problem began only about one week ago.
All the best,
Cearbhall

goldwave and maybe other cd reader software using freedb
Hi.
With the loss of freedb, especially for a lot of older software using it that just doesn't work. freedb.goldwave.ca is the one goldwave made for its software but it may work for other things to. At any rate going to the address mentioned via a web program may get some people having a laugh. Its all written in old english.

On Repetitive Subscribe/Unsubscribe Activity On This or Any Groups.io Groups
#adminnotice
Hello All,
What follows is a request that is for your benefit as a member, and the benefit for those who administer whatever groups you may be a member of on Groups.io. Every time you subscribe anew, you are put back on moderated status until your first message is approved by the group owner or moderator. This is how Groups.io does things by default, and it's a great spam control mechanism. And if you unsubscribe, and later subscribe again, you are treated as though you are a brand new member and will be put on moderated status until your first message (for the most recent subscription cycle) is approved. This can be easily avoided by not unsubscribing from a group if you decide you want a vacation from it for a while, but suspect you'll want to jump back in again later. Sending a message to nvda+nomail@nvda.groups.io (or the equivalent for whatever group you wish to take a vacation from) will immediately suspend delivery of all group email to you, regardless of whether you were receiving it as individual messages, digests, or other format you chose. You can resume email participation again, without losing your member status or being subjected to new member moderation, if you use the nomail address to suspend messages. To jump back in again send a message to one of the following, depending on the message delivery you want:
Email from any Groups.io group can be managed that way for a group you really aren't intending to permanently leave. It makes your rejoining, when you do it, instantaneous with the same unmoderated status you had prior to stopping email delivery. It also makes it easier for group owners and moderators, who won't have to approve you again. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. Re: is firefox quantum now works well with nvda without any crash or major issue?
Lots of good information has been shared in this topic, but it has also now been thoroughly exhausted. It is being locked.
Takeaways should be: 1. Any given program can crash for any one of a number of reasons. 2. If that program is one you absolutely must use, then going through the diagnostic steps to determine the cause of the crash will be necessary. If there exist alternatives, then at least in the short term, using those should be explored. 3. Certain web browsers can be very cranky about certain web pages or web sites. If that's the case, definitely try another browser to access said web pages or sites. 4. NVDA has been working fine with the currently supported versions of all mainstream web browsers, and some less than mainstream ones, as a general rule. This strongly suggests that crashes for anyone are likely to be idiosyncratic to something about their own machine's ecosystem. What that something is would require going through the sequence of diagnostic steps necessary to narrow it down. 5. The use of out-of-support software, be it web browsers, operating systems, or otherwise is bound to eventually lead to issues. Always has, always will. Software, like hardware (and not just computer hardware), has a finite service life and it is expected that it will need to be replaced at predictable intervals. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. Re: is firefox quantum now works well with nvda without any crash or major issue?
Arlene
Zahra, I myself have had firefox crash on me. With my dying 7 box. I don’t remember witch version I had. I was using it with my food safe class and it often crashed on me. I thought it was the dying computer. I was using the latest version of NVDA from last year even. When that box finally died I ended up with this ten box. I completed my food safe course using chrome. I found it was like firefox. I never gave it a thought and I’m using Chrome and edge. Chrome has been my default browser since I got this ten box. I can’t remember what site I used to do the food safe with. But it used either Firefox or Chrome. If it hadden’t been for NVDA I would not have completed that course alone! I would have had to have constant help!

do you remember the exact version that tell me? in which version of firefox, you dont experience crash anymore? for myself, firefox 61 was the only version that i had as a portable version on windows seven in 2018, and i explained that i had crashes even when openning gmail in basic html view or reading nvda user guide help file! firefox 61 was completely unusable for me.

Re: is firefox quantum now works well with nvda without any crash or major issue?
Firefox (very latest version as of this writing, 78.0.1) has been working fine with NVDA for as long as I can remember. So do the latest versions of Chrome, new Edge and Edge Dev, and Brave (and I'd imagine all Chromium-based browsers).
As has already been mentioned the various Firefox derivatives seem to work just fine, too. It is a fact that certain web browsers will "play better" with certain webpages, just as there are times that certain screen readers will "play better" with certain programs (including web browsers). You (any you) have always got to be prepared to use an alternate screen reader or program (most often web browser) when circumstances dictate that. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. Well I just got my new Windows 10 desktop back in May, but I've been using Windows 10 on my laptop since a few years ago, maybe late 2015 or 2016.
