Sounds like its a chrome thing. I mean it has to be sending something to nvda to tell it to change in this way that ff does not. Can you see annything in the log?

I have an issue with google drive, latest chrome, latest nvda 2017.4 rc2. When sharing a file, when trying to set sharing options and I expand the list view, in the dialog box, and try to choose a radio button, NVDA forces me back into browse mode even if I hit insert space. But in firefox it works fine and I can choose radio buttons in expanded list views or lists in web apps and dialogs. Could this please be fixed for chrome and next NVDA?

I heartily agree. Although new add ons may well flag updates one really does needs to be careful from now on due to the big changes about to happen in the nvda world due to new wx version and Python 3.x coming up. Many add ons will need rewrites to stay working on the new compilers.

I wish all addons had an auto updater honestly. but hey you cant always get what you want. It's hard for me to track my addon updates. I am probably running some out of date stuff because it says posted on the addon site not updated it would help if they changed that date to when the add on was last updated. Just a thought.

I just went looking for guides etc done by users etc on both the community website and the nv access website do you reckon i could find them easily?


I think it was quicker for me to do a search with google.


I did go to the cummunity link but way down the page past all the other stuff there was a link to the https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda-community/wiki/Guides

New users would not really have a idea to do that unless they were taken straight to that page.


I think I would rather just be pointed straight to the page from nvda.


I did also look under the nvaccess page as well i could find some info under the get help sectionot the guides.

plus the shop was easy to find. But I think maybe a couple of other sections could go there 2 to make it easier for people to find the type of info by people of the community.

It seems to me with all the drama going on on here that a few things need to happen.

Firstly if there isn't a tutorials page on the nvda wiki maybe it needs to be visible, maybe as part of the support page or download page or even main pages you should have links to the user guide, audio demos of features, audio and text tutorials maybe some sort of faq to.

It would really cut down on all the drama on here if someone wants to fine a tutorial that we can give a centralised location where all links to tutorials on and off site are placed.

Its only a suggestion, I am unsure how to make it a formal proposal but it would be a good way to make most of this stuff go away and would be generally good.

If this stuff exists deep down somewhere maybe it could be brought together somewhere and if someone has a lot of it somewhere else then it should be linked in this central location to.

Well assuming if its not windows 10 you have the ocr add on, sometimes, indeed many times the ocr used in the add on seems not to find text very well. I guess being a public domain program its not as sophisticated as a bought one or the cloud based one Microsoft use.

It normally comes and goes and is not always reproduceable. However, since
I moved to Office 365 online, it has become a permanent feature of the “Sent
Items” folder in Outlook 2016. I am running Windows 10 and NVDA 2017.3.



I have copied the log file and attach it here for your reference.



Here’s the story:

I prefer to display messages in the various folders as a simple list and
Outlook defaults to showing them in groups. So, I have learnt to turn off
“show in groups” whenever I come across it. Since Office 365 online, I
find that when I go to the “Sent Items” folder with groups turned off, I
can see only the message that is under the cursor. I would expect to hear
the next message in the list after pressing down-arrow as in the Inbox and
most other folders. However, here there is silence, even though I press
down or up-arrow many times. If I keep pressing down arrow until message 50
(more or less, it varies!) suddenly, I can hear all the messages listed. If
I up-arrow back up the list, I cross a threshold at the same message where
the voicing began and all is silent again. Down-arrow back down the list
and I break back into voicing the messages at the same threshold of message
51. If I press “end” I will drop down to the last message in the Sent
Items windows (about number 250, for example). I hear it fine. And
repeating up-arrow voices all the prior messages as I reverse up the list
until number 50 again when all goes silent.



In the attached log. I positioned on the “Sent Items” folder with “Show
in groups” unchecked. I then restarted NVDA to freshen the log. In the
log, I have typed in a message bound by three asterisks (***) to make it
easier to find where the error report starts.

Back to my story:

Then, with the refreshed NVDA, I pressed alt+v>a>b for the “Arrange By”
View menu. I then press up-arrow twice to “Show in Groups” which was
unchecked so I press space bar to check it.



Now, when I press up-arrow or down-arrow, I hear the group title and then
each of the messages that were not being voiced before.



To test this I went back into the “arrange By menu and turn off “Show in
groups” and, again, the messages in the top 50 are not being voiced.



You will see the following error line if you look at my attached log:

accRole failed: (-2147417848, 'The object invoked has disconnected from
its clients.', (None,



I carried out some further tests and found that, in fact, the list is only
showing the last 200 messages in the list. When I have 250 messages, the
first 50 messages are silent under NVDA, until I reach the 51st message.
As I frequently have about 420 messages in my sent Items before archiving,
I usually find that the 220th message is silent and then suddenly the 221st
message is spoken!





To relieve my frustration, I loaded JAWS 2016 which does not have any
problem reading each message from top to bottom in the Sent Items list.
Should I have to admit to all my NVDA critics that NVDA cannot do it and
they had better use JAWS?

    If you use web roott it will block both windows and all nvda commands I tried it several yearsand thats what happend.  I had windows 7 at the time and all that I heard when I tried to enter a command was the windows ding.

I would guess, as you did, that the issue is this web rooter.  To get to it, you can try:

1. Press alt+tab.  Hold down alt and keep tapping tab.  You should either find a "web rooter" window or similar, or eventually get back to the first window you had open.  Most anti-virus type programs don't have a window open so this won't necessarily find it, but it's the easiest first step.

 

2. Press WINDOWS+B to move the focus to the system tray (B for... because :)  I don't know, it's Microsoft's shortcut).  Next, press right arrow to move through the icons and see if you can find it there.  If you have "notification chevron" or "notification overflow" or similar, press up arrow, then use left arrow to move through those icons.


When you find it in the system tray, press applications key to bring up a context menu then down arrow through that, alternatively try enter or space.

 

Look for something like "Exit".

 

Failing that, press control+shift+escape to bring up task manager and down arrow through the running programs to find it.  If you press tab and find a "more details" button.  Press enter to show more details.  When you find web rooter, you can press alt+e to end task (or context menu then find end task).  Be sure you are exiting the right app as this will force close it and it could have unintended consequences if you close the wrong thing.

 

The other thing you might want to do, if you don't want this web rooter, is to open the start menu, type "add or remove programs" and see if you can find the program to uninstall.  Note it is a good idea to have an anti virus program of some sort running.  On Windows 10 I just use the built in defender, but there are third party ones which work as well.  At some point before uninstalling it, you might check and see if you can access the main program window or functions of this web rooter and see if you can access it.  If you can and you want to keep it, then you'll just need to figure out how to disable it while installing programs.  If it's not accessible, it's always worth shooting an email to the program developer to ask them to make it accessible.  Even if you aren't intending to keep it, your request might encourage them to make the program accessible for others (or for you down the track).

to come up either. When Best Buys repaired my computer, they put on this
thing called web rooter or something like that. I don't know what to do.
They also installed C cleaner which I really didn't need. How do I allow web
rooter to unblock nvda so I can upgrade?

Hi,


I just checked Firefox and it is the same. 


Yesterday when I tested the ctrl+w to close a tab it closed the entire browser.  I was very careful about how I performed the test but now testing it again it is working correctly.  I am not sure if I got an erroneous report of the tabs I had opened or something else but it is  functioning correctly now.  It is closing just the current tab.  Interesting!

Not on my system, something is weird.

 

I opened 3 tabs under Firefox and ctrl+w closed all of them and terminated Firefox completely.

 

I am running Firefox ESR.

Well, under Firefox ctrl+f4 closes the tab I am currently viewing.  ctrl+w closes the browser.  I have never tried using ctrl+w under Firefox before now.

 

Under Chrome ctrl+f4 closes the browser and ctrl+w closes the current tab if I have multiple tabs open.

Wow! Maybe there is something wrong with my system.  I have tried this lots of times because of my habit from using Firefox.  But no matter how many tabs I have open it always closes all of them and terminates Chrome.

Actually, with multiple tabs open ctrl+f4 closes all tabs.  That is why I was trying to find out what would close just one tab.  It acts like alt+f4 and that surprised me.

In fact, with Windows Ten, for the first time ever, I was able to download a fully graphical PDF (image scan only) document with no embedded hooks at all and get about 80% of the information from the document to show up with the keystroke insert+ R.


As yet, this feature is not perfect, but its a darn site better than nothing.  Perhaps improvements will result in future releases.

    If you use web roott it will block both windows and all nvda commands I tried it several yearsand thats what happend.  I had windows 7 at the time and all that I heard when I tried to enter a command was the windows ding.

I would guess, as you did, that the issue is this web rooter.  To get to it, you can try:
1. Press alt+tab.  Hold down alt and keep tapping tab.  You should either find a "web rooter" window or similar, or eventually get back to the first window you had open.  Most anti-virus type programs don't have a window open so this won't necessarily find it, but it's the easiest first step.

2. Press WINDOWS+B to move the focus to the system tray (B for... because :)  I don't know, it's Microsoft's shortcut).  Next, press right arrow to move through the icons and see if you can find it there.  If you have "notification chevron" or "notification overflow" or similar, press up arrow, then use left arrow to move through those icons.

When you find it in the system tray, press applications key to bring up a context menu then down arrow through that, alternatively try enter or space.

Look for something like "Exit".

Failing that, press control+shift+escape to bring up task manager and down arrow through the running programs to find it.  If you press tab and find a "more details" button.  Press enter to show more details.  When you find web rooter, you can press alt+e to end task (or context menu then find end task).  Be sure you are exiting the right app as this will force close it and it could have unintended consequences if you close the wrong thing.

The other thing you might want to do, if you don't want this web rooter, is to open the start menu, type "add or remove programs" and see if you can find the program to uninstall.  Note it is a good idea to have an anti virus program of some sort running.  On Windows 10 I just use the built in defender, but there are third party ones which work as well.  At some point before uninstalling it, you might check and see if you can access the main program window or functions of this web rooter and see if you can access it.  If you can and you want to keep it, then you'll just need to figure out how to disable it while installing programs.  If it's not accessible, it's always worth shooting an email to the program developer to ask them to make it accessible.  Even if you aren't intending to keep it, your request might encourage them to make the program accessible for others (or for you down the track).

ctrl + w will work in any case. In Firefox, Crome, IE, Edge and other
browsers. The same applies for ctrl + t for adding a new tab or ctrl + tab
to switch between tabs. Please don't confuse with 100 different keystrokes.
These are the standard keystrokes and if you use other keystrokes then they
are customized or typical for a certain browser. But these keystrokes work
1000%.

I have Virtual Box, and it is free to download.  As you have a .ie. domain in your email address, I assume that you are living in Ireland.  My phone number is on my email signature, so perhaps we could meet up, and see if we can replicate the error on a different machine, running the same configuration from a software perspective as your current machine.  If the error is consistent across different hardware, then it would seem safe to say that either three hardware configurations are causing the problem, or the problem is a software configuration problem.  If we don’t get the error across the three configurations then perhaps there is a hardware conflict somewhere.

I have two laptops on which we could try this. , so including your laptop, that will be three hardware configurations.

It normally comes and goes and is not always reproduceable. However, since I moved to Office 365 online, it has become a permanent feature of the Sent Items folder in Outlook 2016. I am running Windows 10 and NVDA 2017.3.

 

I have copied the log file and attach it here for your reference.

 

Heres the story:

I prefer to display messages in the various folders as a simple list and Outlook defaults to showing them in groups. So, I have learnt to turn off show in groups whenever I come across it. Since Office 365 online, I find that when I go to the Sent Items folder with groups turned off, I can see only the message that is under the cursor. I would expect to hear the next message in the list after pressing down-arrow as in the Inbox and most other folders. However, here there is silence, even though I press down or up-arrow many times. If I keep pressing down arrow until message 50 (more or less, it varies!) suddenly, I can hear all the messages listed. If I up-arrow back up the list, I cross a threshold at the same message where the voicing began and all is silent again. Down-arrow back down the list and I break back into voicing the messages at the same threshold of message 51. If I press end I will drop down to the last message in the Sent Items windows (about number 250, for example). I hear it fine. And repeating up-arrow voices all the prior messages as I reverse up the list until number 50 again when all goes silent.

 

In the attached log. I positioned on the Sent Items folder with Show in groups unchecked. I then restarted NVDA to freshen the log. In the log, I have typed in a message bound by three asterisks (***) to make it easier to find where the error report starts.

Back to my story:

Then, with the refreshed NVDA, I pressed alt+v>a>b for the Arrange By View menu. I then press up-arrow twice to  Show in Groups which was unchecked so I press space bar to check it.

 

Now, when I press up-arrow or down-arrow, I hear the group title and then each of the messages that were not being voiced before.

 

To test this I went back into the arrange By menu and turn off Show in groups and, again, the messages in the top 50 are not being voiced.

 

You will see the following error line if you look at my attached log:

accRole failed: (-2147417848, 'The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.', (None,

 

I carried out some further tests and found that, in fact, the list is only showing the last 200 messages in the list. When I have 250 messages, the first 50 messages are silent under NVDA, until I reach the 51st message. As I frequently have about 420 messages in my sent Items before archiving, I usually find that the 220th message is silent and then suddenly the 221st message is spoken!

 

 

To relieve my frustration, I loaded JAWS 2016 which does not have any problem reading each message from top to bottom in the Sent Items list. Should I have to admit to all my NVDA critics that NVDA cannot do it and they had better use JAWS?

I have Virtual Box, and it is free to download.  As you have a .ie. domain in your email address, I assume that you are living in Ireland.  My phone number is on my email signature, so perhaps we could meet up, and see if we can replicate the error on a different machine, running the same configuration from a software perspective as your current machine.  If the error is consistent across different hardware, then it would seem safe to say that either three hardware configurations are causing the problem, or the problem is a software configuration problem.  If we don’t get the error across the three configurations then perhaps there is a hardware conflict somewhere.

I have two laptops on which we could try this. , so including your laptop, that will be three hardware configurations.

I have copied the log file and attach it here for your reference.

 

Heres the story:

I prefer to display messages in the various folders as a simple list and Outlook defaults to showing them in groups. So, I have learnt to turn off show in groups whenever I come across it. Since Office 365 online, I find that when I go to the Sent Items folder with groups turned off, I can see only the message that is under the cursor. I would expect to hear the next message in the list after pressing down-arrow as in the Inbox and most other folders. However, here there is silence, even though I press down or up-arrow many times. If I keep pressing down arrow until message 50 (more or less, it varies!) suddenly, I can hear all the messages listed. If I up-arrow back up the list, I cross a threshold at the same message where the voicing began and all is silent again. Down-arrow back down the list and I break back into voicing the messages at the same threshold of message 51. If I press end I will drop down to the last message in the Sent Items windows (about number 250, for example). I hear it fine. And repeating up-arrow voices all the prior messages as I reverse up the list until number 50 again when all goes silent.

 

In the attached log. I positioned on the Sent Items folder with Show in groups unchecked. I then restarted NVDA to freshen the log. In the log, I have typed in a message bound by three asterisks (***) to make it easier to find where the error report starts.

Back to my story:

Then, with the refreshed NVDA, I pressed alt+v>a>b for the Arrange By View menu. I then press up-arrow twice to  Show in Groups which was unchecked so I press space bar to check it.

 

Now, when I press up-arrow or down-arrow, I hear the group title and then each of the messages that were not being voiced before.

 

To test this I went back into the arrange By menu and turn off Show in groups and, again, the messages in the top 50 are not being voiced.

 

You will see the following error line if you look at my attached log:

accRole failed: (-2147417848, 'The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.', (None,

 

I carried out some further tests and found that, in fact, the list is only showing the last 200 messages in the list. When I have 250 messages, the first 50 messages are silent under NVDA, until I reach the 51st message. As I frequently have about 420 messages in my sent Items before archiving, I usually find that the 220th message is silent and then suddenly the 221st message is spoken!

 

 

To relieve my frustration, I loaded JAWS 2016 which does not have any problem reading each message from top to bottom in the Sent Items list. Should I have to admit to all my NVDA critics that NVDA cannot do it and they had better use JAWS?

problem with google drive in chrome

Hi

I have an issue with google drive, latest chrome, latest nvda 2017.4 rc2. When sharing a file, when trying to set sharing options and I expand the list view, in the dialog box, and try to choose a radio button, NVDA forces me back into browse mode even if I hit insert space. But in firefox it works fine and I can choose radio buttons in expanded list views or lists in web apps and dialogs. Could this please be fixed for chrome and next NVDA?
