Re: lock NVDA + f2

John Isige

Would it be the same though? I'm guessing what's being talked about here
is that NVDA will turn browse mode back on if the game changes. So you
turn it off and it's fine, but something changes, and it turns back on,
and you have to stop and turn it back off again. With a pass key lock it
could just hold until you toggled it off. Browse mode was my first
thought too, and I don't play enough web games to know what's going on,
if anybody wants to provide examples of some that cause a problem I'll
happily check them out. But that would be my guess, that browse mode is
getting toggled automatically in response to a change from the site.

Re: Using NVDA with Pontes Media Downloader

David Griffith

Dear travis

I have downloaded your program but I don’t appear to have the knowledge or skills to find the youtube.dll file on the page you point to in the Help file.

I downloaded a file called youtube_dl but it was not at all clear what I should do  with it. I tried renaming it  to a dll file which did not  appear to do anything.

I then downloaded and exe file from the same site which again appeared to do nothing. I then tried extracting the exe file and whilst loads of stuff came out I could find no dll files in this.

I then consulted the download help which seemed to indicate that you needed to be programming in Python in order to use the downloads. Is this right or is there a link for just the YouTube.dll fileanywhere?

Tghanks

David Griffith

I went back to the page you pointed to and did a page search for dll  but came up with no results.

It doesn't offer you the ability to change file formats, but you can use

youtube downloader located at:

http://www.softcon.com/ytdlui.html

to download youtube videos, and other url types as well.  The

documentation has pointers where to get the programs that do the various

functions, (some of which are the same programs ponts downloader uses.

I've not been asked for it, but I can certainly look into adding format

options to the download options.  I was thinking of adding mp3 format as

an option anyhow with the next update.

I had not heard of QRead before so went to their website to check it out. I downloaded the demo version and within 5 mins had returned to the website to purchase the full version! I think it's fantastic! I use a HIMS Blaze ET book reader and one thing that does annoy me is that Bookshare books cannot be navigated word by word or character by character which, if you want to know how a word is spelled is troublesome. When I read a html webpage, such as a newspaper, there is the word and character navigation, but apparently not in Daisy format books.

The QRead program will open Daisy books from Bookshare right from the zipped download, and I can navigate by word or character as I desire. Although Bookshare books can be read online, having to press the next page button at the end of a page gets a little tiring in a few hundred page book!

I tried QRead out on a PDF file too and can confirm it does open the PDF very quickly and is far simpler to navigate than using Acrobat DC. With PDF files I always either save them as text from Acrobat, or OCR them using Abbyy Finereader because I find that the best way to turn a PDF into a plain text file.

I'll be using QRead as my first port of call for PDFs and Daisy reading, and several other formats it handles :)

Re: Wordpress.com and NVDA

Giles Turnbull

I had a webdesigner to set up my Wordpress blog http://gilesturnbullpoet.com and I don't think she did anything specifically to make it easier for me to navigate with NVDA. Like Dang Manh Cuong I am comfortable with html code so I draft my weekly posts in Notepad with the tags like <h1>page title</h1> and <b>bold</b> and then I head to my Wordpress dashboard and paste the article code in there. I select New Post and then enter the title for the post, and then I press e to go to the next edit box, but before I go into it I shift+tab backwards through the formatting options until after threee or four presses I find the code button. I press that and it drops be right back into the text area with a <code> tag at the start. My article text / code then folows immediately after.

I have about 4 tags set up, Blindness, Competitions / Submissions, education, and technology. I usually have at least one of those to select so I press escape to exit from the text area and press x to take me to the first of those check boxes. Once I've selected those I use shift+b to jump back to the publish putton and that's it!

I used to find the media library hard to use because I could never find the url to the images I'd uploaded. Because I'm hand coding the blogposts I'd use <img src="<url to image> alt="alternative text"> so I need to know that file url. I found it finally by going to media library in the dashboard, using x to navigate to the media file (image or mp3) and then select it and use shortcut k to go to the edit link. In the edit page the url can be found down near the save button.

Hope that's a little help. I'm no WOrdpress expert, but those steps work fine for me every week :)

I did have to educate my designer that when she described something as being on the top right then it didn't always translate into how I navigate with NVDA ... we got there in the end though :)

The list of translators isn't published somewhere, though it should be, because a russian user for example doesn't speak English and he/she doesn't know how to get in touch with the Russian translator. Yes, he/she can write on the translations mailing list, but in English, and using a translator such as Google may be a bad solution for long messages.

Re: lock NVDA + f2

It does not work very reliable in browser games, especially when dealing with types of browser games in java and php. It is also not very consistent in flash player, for example there are still lots of webinars which can be accessed in flashplayer by some keystrokes.

I have noticed this in different browsers. May the grafics driver have any impact on this? I have only tested it with my dell notebook on a nvidia gtx graphic card.

Turn off browse mode.  Do you know the comand t6o toggle it off and on?  NVDA key space.  Also, I don't recall if NVDA has a command to pass keys to the application when browsing.  But even in the youtube example, it is often much more convenient to turn off browse mode than use the key pass through command.

Dear Community,

Is it possible to create an addon which locks the keystroke NVDA + f2 so that every key which will be pressed will be sent through to the application? It would make sense for example in browser games or in some browser videoplayers. It should just offer the possibility to disable and enable this licking feature whenever needed.

Hi,

The Pass through command will tell NVDA,  to send the next command it receives directly to the application that you are working in.

I think the tutorial I read was a different one. It was the one about basics of the DC reader with NVDA, not specifically about large documents. I’ll have to look at yours as well. Thanks.

Hi. Single page is still preferred. I'm the one who wrote the tutorial about reading large documents that Gene mentioned. I thought I included that, but I apologize if I didn't.

Hi Jean,
Very nice short tutorial. I do have one question. You talk about the various page display options. Is there one that is preferred for Screenwitter users? It seems to me this used to be the case, and I think it was single page. But that may have changed.

Re: Wordpress.com and NVDA

Hi
Yes mark down wordks well if you convert it to a html file, open and copy its content within a browser. I have a website created using wordpress, other created using drupal, and I did that for my post, or the post I copied from other site. You can try reading one at: https://saomaicenter.org/en/newsletter/accesstech/sao-mai-accesstech-issue-51
Note that I just do that with Jaws, I've not try copy web content using NVDA so you could try and give featback here I think.

I know markdown. Will Markdown work as well if I'd paste the post content to the Wordpress site?

I usually use text editor to edit my article offline, then copy to wordpress site. If you're familiar with html, you can write as this format, then open the html in your browser, copy its content, and paste to the body of your post on Wordpress site. Otherwise, use Microsoft Word to edit, then do the same.

Hi, everyone. I have a blog on wordpress.com and have a couple questions about using it with NVDA. I've noticed that the HTML editor doesn't seem to be very accessible, so I have to switch to the visual rich text editor to write a post. Is there something I can change in the settings or something to make this more accessible? Also, I'm a beginner at blogging and only have a couple posts on my blog. Before I really get going with it, are there any settings I should change, good accessible themes or plugins I should use, or tips you have for someone just getting started? Thanks.

NVDA Translations

adriani.botez@...

Dear all,

we have found some people who would like to become translators in the NVDA-Project. But not only translating the screenreader itself. There are also wikis on Github, articles on accessibility central, snap shots on nvaccess website, developer documentation, addon descriptions and more other things which have to be translated in order to increase identification with the community. Is there a good guide for beginners how to start and where all possibilities are listed? Beginners implies also people who have computer knowledge but are new to NVDA. Where can we see the track changes and current status of overall translation? Is there a list of all maintainers of every language including their e-mail addresses etc? It would be very good to connect new translators with the maintainers for improving productivity.

I know, there are many questions. Some of them can be answered through the translation wikis on github but not all of them. So I hope I can get here some better insights and good tipps.

Tank you.
