stopping the word clickable.

ken lawrence

Hi listers. ken here with a question. a user of out-of-sight just asked how does she stop NVDA from saying the word clickable. she was on the hadley site and she was taking a test and before she got to the first question NVDA said clickable on several places.  how does she stop the NVDA from saying clickable over and over on a page.  one member suggested something about changing object presentation. he also said something about turning use screen layout off which is of course the default.  any thoughts

Re: Firefox has updated to 56 and its broken

Hmm, I'm running Firefox 54.0.1 on my desktop and until now it hasn't auto-update to version 55.0.x.

Re: what in the world is happening with firefox and nvda

Andre Fisher

A couple questions:

  1. Did you uninstall Office recently?
  2. Do you have any other screen readers besides Narraor?
  3. Where did you download this version of Firefox?

The reason for asking these questions is simple, nobody is facing these issues you are currently facing, so it’s doubtful that the developers even know about it. You need to provide additional information to diagnose the problem. Have you tried it on other types of systems?

I agree that it's when I'm proof reading that I find the beep for capitals helpful. I have a configuration profile for editing documents before I submit them anywhere, in which I have the punctuation level set to all, and slow the speed down a little, and it would be helpful to have the beep for a capital sounding as I move through the document line by line, rather than having to navigate to the specific place where there should be a capital letter so I can hear the beep as I move by character.

I don't believe the change in pitch for capitals is audible at all unless the Say Cap for Capitals seting is on. Even with it set to 100, I don't hear any change in pitch with Microsoft Zira voice without that audible Cap announcement and, for me, that's more of a distraction than it's worth when I'm editing.

I think I know what's happened. While at my friend's house we updated her hitman pro antivirus to the latest version and all seemed to work well until I went into firefox.  I'm testing the same set of scenarios on my system here at home and have gotten the exact same problems that she has. I've sent the information on to my sighted partner and between the 2 of us we should be able to straighten things out. Suggesting that you use a more up to date version of a program is a perfectly reasonable response. Open office became librioffice, and last time I checked, open office hadn't been updated for some time. Since libri office is an updated version of open office, I find nothing wrong with the suggestion to try it in place of your copy of open office.

thanks but I am not using the same version as you and as I keep saying it works perfectly with nvda version 2017.2 but not with the RC using 32 bit fire fox windows10 home 64bit this is getting very frustrating now.

NVDA and Libreoffice

Running NVDA 2017.3 RC1 on a Win 10 system.
Just installed LibreOffice and attempted to open and modify a MS Office 2003 document.  If I change the document and select to save it as the original .doc file type it crashes LibreOffice to the point of needing a hard reboot to clear it.  Is this a known issue with trying to use LibreOffice with Microsoft Office documents?
Thanks

Thats the way its going to have to be.

Msse is good access wize, but protection wize well I want something that is easy to put exclusions for blind games and the like, I want something I can control and configure easily and I want something which performs and does not bog down the system or add extra unwanted things.

I also want to trust my security program and not have to bother withit unless I need to msse does that.

I need something with a accessible interface that uses standard controls, etc.

If it needs to be a subscription for my 3 pc network and maybe others I want something low cost to.

An entire suite will be nice I guess but its not needed.

Hi Gene,

I think I know what's happened. While at my friend's house we updated her hitman pro antivirus to the latest version and all seemed to work well until I went into firefox.  I'm testing the same set of scenarios on my system here at home and have gotten the exact same problems that she has. I've sent the information on to my sighted partner and between the 2 of us we should be able to straighten things out. We will also put together a piece on this and send it to the folks who make the antivirus program to let them know that this happens.

Does he work in microsoft edge and read out the contents?

Down on the running application area on the task bar does nvda speak any
of the programs there?

When you hit the applications key does nvda speak any of the menus as
you arrow down it?

If you are running mozilla thunder bird does it say unknown as you tab

Does anyone know what happened, and a fix for it if there is one? Very
strange indeed.  using the latest versions of both windows 10 pro and NVda.

Hi,

I subscribed to this list in the middle of this conversation, so please forgive me for asking this.

Can the person who had the problem please give me steps to reproduce? For instance, I may be using a different synthesizer or voice or program or keyboard or whatever, and I won’t be able to produce the issue. The more specific, the easier it is going to be to enter the bug and get a fix.

Thanks.

If change in pitch isn't audible unless some other indication is on, that is a bug and evidently is now being looked into.
