Hi Richard

If you want both written and audio tutorials for the nvda screen reader you can check out my website at http://www.accessibilitycentral.net

the link is to the main page you see. It covers blindness related material along with nvda tutorials.

If you pick one off the main page for nvda it will link to the internal website where the nvda tutorials are all in one table if you get what I mean.

it will also point you in the right directions for a lot of stuff plus you can also buy training material from nvaccess shop for outlook, word, exce, nvda and a power point one is coming.

Hope it helps.

By the way the nvda tutorials covers a few of the features from before to now of the latest release.

hope it helps.

Re: New Member Seeking Tutorials

Richard,

I'll leave it to others as far as suggesting tutorials.  You can find a lot of answers to a lot of questions already asked by using these instructions:

Searching the NVDA Group Archive

Here is also another document that covers additional ways you can control the e-mail you receive from Groups.io, often with more precision than even a daily digest.

Controlling the Messages You Receive via E-Mail from Groups.io (docx)

Controlling the Messages You Receive via E-Mail from Groups.io  (PDF)

Re: New Member Seeking Tutorials

Richard,

What follows should answer your question regarding getting group messages in digest form, along with other information regarding e-mail control of the exact e-mail you get from the NVDA group:
---------------

Hello All,

What follows is an informational message about how to manage your subscription and, more importantly, e-mail options under Groups.io.  The general principle applies across groups, but you would have to use the appropriate Groups.io mailing address for the specific group you wish to change.  The examples are for the NVDA Group

Just like you subscribed yourself, should you wish to unsubscribe you can, and should, unsubscribe yourself.  Sending an e-mail message to  nvda+unsubscribe@nvda.groups.io will unsubscribe you.  You will also receive one final message that you have been unsubscribed.  If you do not receive your unsubscribe confirmation, then please send a message to the group owner address and we will research why it is failing.  It very seldom does.

You also have the option of remaining subscribed, but putting yourself on "no mail" status.  Using this method has the added advantage of retaining group membership and not putting your first message under moderation when you post again later.  Should you wish to do that instead, send a message to  nvda+nomail@nvda.groups.io.   You can pick up with mailing again at any time by sending a message to the one of the group email management addresses:

nvda+single@nvda.groups.io

To receive individual messages instead of digests or a summary

nvda+fulldigest@nvda.groups.io

To receive full featured digests instead of individual messages

nvda+summary@nvda.groups.io

To receive a daily summary instead of individual messages

nvda+digest@nvda.groups.io

To receive plain digests instead of individual messages

nvda+special@nvda.groups.io

To receive special notices only

The email management addresses mentioned previously can also be used at any time to switch the way group information is delivered to you.

Re: Screen Curtain

The only thing I can think of is to reset your settings. I don't know if that will make key assignments revert to what they were previously.

To avoid this problem in the future, only press the keys you want assigned when you get to the specific area for this action to be done. I use ctrl+shift+NVDA+F12. It is a combinaiton you cannot press by accident. Hopefully this helps you.

Thanks . . . But I think one of my portable versions is broken. I tried to load it and I got an error message saying the specified module could not be found . . . I updated the copy from 2019.2.1 to 2019.3 a few days ago, and it worked. I honestly don't know what happened to suddenly cause that error message. Good thing I made two copies.

Yes, run one of the versions, install the addons, then do whatever.

I have done this with my interactive fiction interpreters and it works as expected.

I think till things become accessible we will have to jump back and forth between 2019.2 and the latest nvda version.

Hi all.

Well except for the interactive fiction interpreters addon from n stockton which I have given up on ever getting updated, nvda is in of itself working.

I have made a portable version of nvda 2019.2.1 which has, just the addons I need, no win10 apps, no extras just the configurations I want and such.

I suggest for those that need older addons they just use nvda with the addons that don't update or are not updated or will never update from now on.

All I will use this version for is to play text games, its not ever going to update itself at all.

Yes, of course...

If you have an installed version of NVDA, even running a portable version of NVDA, pressing enter in a *.nvda-addon file, the add-on will be installed in the portable version.

If you do not have any NVDA version installed, to install a add-on, go to add-on manager, go to install button and choose the add-on you want to install...

Re: copying list of add-ons into logs

Hi,
One way to view what add-ons get loaded is restarting NVDA with debug logging and looking at the top portion of the log. Whenever an issue with an add-on shows up, this is usually the place to look at.
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi,

I am trying to generate a list of add-ons running with NVDA to be appended to my log. The usual copy-and-paste method does not do the job.

This leads to two questions:
 --Should logs not automatically include information of add-ons and their status? Developers of NVDA might be better able to assist users in determining the cause of some problems if such information was readily available.
 --How may lists of add-ons be copied when copy-and-paste fails?

Thanks in advance for advice or suggestions.

Hi, Gene:

Thanks fort he info and the link to your web site. I actually know how to locate and install add-ons. Joseph, however, has answered my query, and I hope that this option--if or when it gets implemented one day--will let us select the add-on(s) to be included in whatever portable version of NVDA we generate.

Once again, many thanks for your helpful note.

Hi

if you are a new user and unaware of how to get into the menus it is the
nvda key + N then arrow down to tools then there will be a submenu so
when you hear it you might have to right arrow then down to arrow to
manage add ons menu then press the enter key. When the next screen comes
up tab a few times until you hear you hear get add ons then press the
enter key. Now it will launch your browser and on that page will give
you a list of add ons you can use. You can jump down by the letter H to
see which ones might suit your needs. Then there will be a link off that
page to another where you can down load that add on from.

When it has been down loaded it will usually go to a downloads folder
on your pc locate it then the add on and press the enter key on it just
say yes to it a couple of times then it will be installed.

documentation can be found under the add on manager locate the add on by
arrow down to it then tab once or twice to hear the keys etc that you
use with it.

By the way if you are interested and a new user to nvda I have put
together a website called http://www.accessibilitycentral.net where you
can find written and audio tutorials on how to use nvda. They are for a
desk top user and cover a wide variety of tutorials on using nvda Plus
there are other pages to do with blindness for people who are new to be
visually impaired or blind and getting used to it if you get what I mean.

If you chose one of the nvda pages it will link to the nvda website
inside of this one and there is a table on each page to other nvda
tutorials.

hope it helps.
