I don't know why it isn't reading properly but are you saying it is in Notepad and not in other programs such as Word or Wordpad or a browser? I suspect you may be having the problem because word wrap is off in Notepad. Notepad doesn't create new lines. If something you are working on is just a string of text with no line feeds, Notepad sees it as one continuous line and movement doesn't work as you expect. Open the menus in Notepad. Right arrow to format and down arrow. When you get to word wrap, do you hear checked if you let Word wrap be spoken and then wait for a second or two? If not, press enter when you are on Word Wrap. It is now turned on and I think the problem will be solved. Gene

Premature Forced Updates [Was "nvda Windows 10 Upgrade and Windows 10 App Essentials]
Marquette, Ed
Indeed, a forced upgrade ought to be a rare occurrence. It should be remembered that updating to the latest version of Windows is often not an individual user’s choice. Many organizations, in fact, most organizations I know about, deliberately stay at least one update (and sometimes two updates) behind. One reason I’m told is that organizations are loathed to expend resources to update scores or hundreds of computers without a pretty strong reason, particularly since the interconnectivity of enterprise software is frequently affected by upgrades. IT Departments tend to test upgrades pretty extensively before deploying them. Often, an upgrade of Windows will be coordinated with an upgrade of Office too. The second reason given is that new releases of anything tends to have bugs. Waiting until the bugs are corrected seems like a wise choice. I’m not sure I agree with either of the reasons, and I sometimes think they are really excuses, but I cannot say the reasoning is seriously flawed. The point is that upgrades are simply not possible for some of us who are stuck in a system where individuals do not have administrative privileges and, therefore, cannot upgrade when they would like.

Admin's Notes: Addition to NVDA List Rules Re: Unsupported Software Discussion
#adminnotice
Hello everyone,
I have been intending to write this message for the past few days, however decided to wait to see if discussions of such nature continued. It seems as if they have, so I am sending this out to you all.
As a result of numerous discussions taking place regarding old versions of NVDA, Windows XP, and other such old and unsupported software, the NVDA list rules are being amended. If you have a question about the purpose of this change, or if you object to this change, please write to nvda+owner@nvda.groups.io with your thoughts. Please also note that the chat list remains open for any such discussion of Windows XP and such, although I would strongly urge you to update your operating system.
The NVDA Group rules are being amended to include the following:
The discussion of software on the NVDA Group is limited to software currently in support. Depending on the type of software, specific version numbers will change with time. Users are expected to know what remains in support and what has been dropped, and announcements will be made to this list when new software is released. It should be assumed that, when a new version of software is released, primary discussion will take place on that version, not versions of software which are years old. Unsupported versions of any software may only be discussed on the Chat Subgroup, not the main NVDA Group. Windows: Only Windows 8.1 and currently supported versions of Windows 10. With regard to Windows 8.1, its end of extended support date, January 10, 2023, is already known. Members on Windows 8.1 are expected to upgrade to a currently supported version of Windows either on or before that date. Members should refer to the Windows Lifecycle Fact Sheet to determine which versions of Windows are currently supported. Information about the dates on which specific versions of Windows 10 reached their end of service dates is listed there as well and will be updated as new versions are released. Note that it is acceptable to direct a user to the NVAccess site, or the Microsoft site, where older versions can be downloaded, however this is different than supporting a specific version of software, or operating system. NVDA: NVDA has, at any given time, a single version under active support. If a question arises about how to update to that version, and you’re on an earlier version, that will be permitted as transition problems can occasionally occur. Best,

Re: is firefox quantum now works well with nvda without any crash or major issue?

I generally use Chrome because it seems, from the small amount of comparison I've done, to be faster and Firefox may lose its place on more complex pages until the pages really fully load. But I wouldn't be without Firefox. For one thing, Firefox does not automatically play audio. You have to use a play button. Firefox, because it isn't Google Chrome, and doesn't have a conflict of interest concerning gathering data on users, has more ;privacy features than Chrome. I can load a page in firefox and see whether any trackers known to Firefox are being used by the page.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Also, as I said, there are times when sites work better in Firefox and I gave one example. I'm not saying you should use Firefox as your main browser, but if you are a demanding Internet user, you will very likely come across a page off and on that doesn't work well in Chrome that works much better in Firefox. How are you going to know unless you can test the page? All demanding blind Internet users have two or three different browsers. Gene

Zahra, its time you moved on. Xp is long gone. I know it meets your needs. What are you going to do if that computer dies. It’s not good to cling to the old clunker xp. The longer you stay with xp the less sites you’ll have access with. Even the old versions of firefox. If you have 7 you may do okay. But like xp you’ll be left behind.

Then you need a newer more powerful computer so you can run Windows 7 or 10 or whatever you want to run. You can't run any version of Firefox later than 51.x with XP.
