Re: Code Factory & NVDA 2020
I may have an issue with activation. My Windows laptop died a couple years ago. I think its computer name si what I see in the About tab and deactivation does not seem to allow me to get rid of it. I also may have used one activation on a portable setup but I don't know where to look for that now.

To be honest thats why I am all for sapi voices in the big synths but then I want to be a multiuser type deal. I don't really need high quality voices for general admin, after all, crappy and fast with good performance is fine for my general day to day life. Playing games or reading books, then yeah I need better voices, but espeak does what it does which is read the screen. The issue with high quality voices is while you can use them to read the screen there is a delay when they do things and there is a bit of lag. They are fine for books and games though. Espeak is also good in dosbox but that could also be my old dos days. Of course depending what the game is, you need a voice that fits. Sometimes there are arcade and other games that while you can run a high quality voice, especially if these are mimicking older arcade machines, high quality kinda doesn't go, then something crappy and robotic sounding like eloquence fits that machine. Beatstar for example fits a lot better with eloquence because I concidder it an arcade type unit type deal. But it depends on the user and what you do of course. For most of the time I actually need performance over quality. As long as its read then its fine.

To be honest that was why I got myself sapi eloquence and vocaliser. True they cost me more to buy but I don't have this issue with nvda versions. If it wasn't so ruddy expensive I'd buy the entire acapella sapi to but you can't download the full english or multilang infovox and need to buy it as well a flash drive. That would be fine but at double the price after buying it in the uk, no thanks. Its a pitty new zealand or australia don't have a local distributor at all. Its also a pitty I can't just buy it as an online purchice from acapella itself and is probably the only thing stopping me getting that one. Seroproc is nice but with everything being 25 bucks each and with noveltys being 10 bucks each I'd have to buy everything as indevidual products. Neospeech is allso split up as well as ivona and while maxiaids has the old neospeech for a reasonable price and while they claim to ship outside the us, paypal seems to only work in the us so I had to give up. I may try later on and see if I can manually send them cash without using paypal for the thing. Or at least not the paypal form, I have brought things with direct email address submition before and it has worked.

I also have difficulties with Outlook, but specifically the calendar. When in day view NVDA will frequently crash when using control tab or control shift tab to move between the calendar view and the arrows that go to the previous or next day. I would say this happens one out of three times and specifically when focus lands in the calendar view. Windows 10 professional, latest version of NVDA and office 365

Vlad, as I do have the Acapela voices installed this certainly
gives me a clue as far as what to look for. If I find that the
Acapela driver is causing this to occur I will certainly write to
them about it. Thanks for the tip as I don't think it would have
occurred to me to disable the addon to see if that addresses the
issue. David Goldfield, Blindness Assistive Technology Specialist JAWS Certified, 2019 WWW.DavidGoldfield.org On 6/28/2020 12:27 PM, Vlad Dragomir

Vlad, you are absolutely right. Once I disabled the Acapela driver and restarted NVDA the exit sounds work. Enabling the driver then stops the sound from being played. It's worth noting that I am running v1.6.2 of the driver and I
believe that there is a 1.6.3 now available from the Acapela Web
site. I will download this and see if they have addressed the
issue. David Goldfield, Blindness Assistive Technology Specialist JAWS Certified, 2019 WWW.DavidGoldfield.org On 6/28/2020 12:29 PM, David Goldfield

I used to have this exact problem in conjunction with the Acapela for NVDA add-on. As soon as I uninstalled it, the wave file began to be heard again. I sent this description to the Acapela team, but of course, attentive and caring as they are, I never heard back from them. I hope this may help you at least a little bit.
Best,

It is not the voice that needs to be updated. You need to update the driver for the voices. You should be able to find the updated driver from the code factory website or from where you bought the voices. Greg Wocher

Sent: 28 June 2020 03:53 To: NVDA English EMail List Subject: [nvda] Recovering an Acapela activation key from unusable computer how’s it done?
For those of you who already have NVDA’s Acapela voices, if God forbid I were to be in this situation, but it’s always good to know just in case: how would one recover an activation key (out of the 3 given when purchasing), if the computer on which the license is activated, suddenly dies, without loosin the key in the process, thus being unable to deactivate that machine’s key, through NVDA/Acapela voices/License Management? If I let that key go, when I get the computer repaired and returned back to me and upon activating Acapela again on that same machine especially if he computer needs to be reformatted), I’d e using up Activation Key #2; hence having one left for emmergencies! Is there a website I could go to, and manage my activation keys without depending on the machine on which the key is activated, to deactivate it? I wouldn’t want to loos any activations unnecessarily. Thanks for info.

Hi from me,
You say that you happen to face it on Firefox. I face it on Google Chrome. That's to say, when I come upon the like button in the reactions toolbar area while in the browse mode, NVDA automatically switches to the focus mode. And then, when I hit escape as you do, NVDA's focus is thrown somewhere else. To get rid of the inconveniences, I go to the NVDA menu, choose the advanced submenu, and then tab to the automatically set system focus to focusable elements to uncheck it just to stop NVDA's focus skipping of its own accord. When I do that, I can use www.facebook.com much better when I walk through the reactions area and the comments area.
Both Chrome and NVDA are the latest versions (NVDA being the latest stable).
