I don't have outlook installed on my computer. I am using the latest version of Thunderbird as my Email client. Thunderbird is the only Email client I have installed and use.

I can't specifically say this is a beta 3 issue but only started
happening after installing NVDA 2020-4 beta 3.
I am using the latest version of Win 10 and Thunderbird.  After using
Thunderbird I use alt f4 to close the program.  It appears that
thunderbird closes as it should.  I have thunderbird set to announce new
mail.  The strange thing is that with Thunderbird not open I still get
announcements of new Email which tells me that Thunderbird was not
closed properly when using alt f4 to close it.  Thunderbird is not
showing in the system tray or on the task bar when these announcements
are announced and I must open Thunderbird by using the icon on the desktop.

Re: Using NVDA and Number Pad on laptop

Having the exact make and model would be helpful.

As a general statement, you want your function keys to act as function keys if you are a screen reader user, so if they have any sort of "media keys" feature enabled by default it should be disabled via whatever method your particular machine requires.

I have added Google Translate results to the subject line and message in hopes that your question might get answered more quickly.  I would suggest you do the same moving forward.

Using NVDA and Number Pad on laptop

Brian Williams

Hi all, I have recently been using a very low-cost laptop which had only the basic keys. I have just moved to a higher spec model which has a compact NumPad. The keyboard doesn’t have a home or end key and I am struggling to work out which key combinations to use using NumPad to move to the beginning of text, beginning of line, and vice versa end of text and end of line. It seems like every laptop, even different models of the same make, seem to have a different keyboard layout. Is it better to have the FN key activated or deactivated when using NVDA in combination with any of the keys? Sorry for so many questions but I’m totally confused. Thanks for your help, hopefully.

Re: outlook rebooting itself when messages contain some sort of graphics

Ralf Kefferpuetz

I can confirm this rebooting problem while arrowing mails with some special graphics in their signitures. The sayAll works in those mails, but reading with the arrow-keys reboots outlook.

I think it is triggert by a twitter graphic, but that needs to be confirmed.

Cheers,

nvda beta 3 returning to desktop

Don H

Prior to installing the nvda 2020-4 beta 3 when I closed a program nvda would announce desktop and speak the name of the icon it landed on. With the beta 3 when you close a program thus returning to the desktop NVDA says nothing.

Re: nvda accessibility with calibre:

Dan Miner

I just downloaded the latest 5.9.0 and the add-on. It does have some tricky spots in my quick check. However, the main UI and the quick guide viewed in the built-in book viewer does work. The book viewer is going to dump a paragraph at a time when using line navigation. Also, you will have to use object navigation to reach the pages to read them (NVDA+keypad 2 for desktop layout). But in the past, these were my barriers from using it. I may try using it again just for this reason.

I mean no offense Zahra, and I am sorry for your experience, but if this was under Windows XP: please know that nothing I say should ever be taken to apply to Windows XP unless specifically stated that it does. I have no idea what the tool was capable of doing, good or ill, in that environment. I have never used or trouble shot NVDA on Windows XP, and do not pretend to give advice about it.

Thanks.

But my workrequire me to use SPSS to communicate with my boss and other responsible workmates

Re: SPSS and NVDA

William

Umm... I dont know how to comment.

So far I have just tested to navigate all the ui elements.

And I can say that, NVDA is not fully accessible or partially accessible.

1.

In side the table data area, in some cells, it seemed that after entering things longer than 5 units, NVDAwill produce an error sound and the cell is forced to finish editing

2.

Some pop up window like alert of saving the project, although NVDA can read out the window at first, but pressing tab at first did not access any ui element.

I have to use nvda / to move the mouse to the spss window, then press / to symulate left mouse click, then nvda is able to access the ui again.

I have not tested any functions at this moment, I am still waiting one of my friend to instruct me how to do some basic data preparation and data analysis task.
