Re: Having Issues with NVDA with Excel and Outlook 2016

Bob,

First, I am going to refer you out to another group for Excel related questions moving forward, when those questions aren't somehow directly tied with using NVDA with Excel:

Microsoft Office Accessibility Discussion Group

With regard to your 2 workbooks, I have no idea which one was created in an older version of Excel, but all you need to do is do a Save As and choose the xlsx file for the version you're running.

For renaming worksheets:

Rename a worksheet - Excel

Moving forward, please take Excel (or any MS-Office Suite) questions to the above noted group, or another of your choosing, when that's what's the focus rather than NVDA.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that in the next few days. Now for an
update on my Excel issue, it's still not working properly despite
disabling live preview. When inserting rows, NVDA still refuses to
speak on returning to the workbook. As I said in my original message,
moving away from the workbook and returning works, but I'd prefer to
not do that. Also while we're on the topic of Excel, I have two
questions not entirely related to NVDA, but I'm not sure how to go
about getting answers.
1. I have two workbooks I need to edit monthly, both of which contain
two sheets. The problem is they were created with different versions
of Excel originally, so one uses control page up to move to the next
sheet and one uses control page down. How do I reorder the sheets to
make these accessible using the same command?
2. Is there a way to rename the sheets so that they're not just called
sheet 1, sheet 2, etc?

Hi Bob,

I have dealt with this exact issue. Here is what you do.
1. Launch outlook.
2. Use the nvda key + n to bring up the nvda menu.
3. Navigate to the item called "configuration profiles."
4. In that dialogue, listen for what profile you are on. If it says default,
create a new profile. If it says outlook, exit the dialog.
5. Assuming you need to create a new profile, do not give it a name but
arrow to the set of radio buttons and choose "current application outlook."
6. Exit the dialogue.
7. Follow the instructions other list members have given for disabling the
reporting of table formatting.
8. Ensure you save the profile.
9. Try reading the newsletter.
10. You should find that the excessive reporting of layout messages is
gone.

When you swap out of outlook, you will find that the document formatting has
returned to the original way it was set because the configuration profile
has changed to the default or whatever else you have defined.

I find profiles a really handy feature.

Adding comments to a PDF-file using Acrobat Reader DC

Sandra Pilz

Hi,

I have to add notes to a PDF document using Acrobat Reader DC using NVDA. I am able to see comments from my colleague, but I am not able to add comments myself. I thought I was, but once I have entered a comment and added it, I cannot find it in my document, so I assume it doesn't work.

So if someone could let me know if this is at all possible with NVDA and if so, how to do this, this would be very helpful.

Regards

Sandra

Topic split and retitled, since the question is in regard to the current release of NVDA and Excel Online.

Perhaps because it is an app, you need to open the menu a different way. I don't know about the difference between apps and applications.

You might try using object navigation which should already be on the word, move the mouse to it, then right click.

Re: Spelling Errors

This is a program or a Windows function, I'm not sure which or if it depends on what you are working in. You are setting NVDA to notify you when something is flagged. NVDA does no spell checking itself. If you open the context menu when you are on a word flagged as misspelled, you can down arrow through options, one of which is the add to dictionary item. Press enter on it.

Hi

When the “spelling Errors” box is checked in the Documents settings dialog, is there some sort of associated dictionary file where I can store words I do not want to be treated as errors? I’m assuming the Speech Dictionaries are not used for this purpose.

Re: In-Process is out

Hi all,

More than three years ago, I wrote a blog post that describes how NVDACon actually came to be, including the planning involved in getting the 2014 keynote going. Among all things that have happened in NVDA community, NVDACon is one of my top two personal favorites (the other one is add-ons). Although the post is an analysis of NVDACon 2017 from the NVDACon founder’s perspective, it is equally applicable to 2020 edition:

http://joslee22590.blogspot.com/2017/05/nvdacon-2017-reflections-from-founding.html

P.S. Found another post from my blog four years ago that deals with forum administration philosophy, but that’s for another forum.

Cheers,

Joseph
