Re: Visually Following NVDA Focus

Yes.  There is an add-on (with focus in its name IIRC) that I use for this purpose.   I'm not on my computer right now so I can't quickly check the NVDA add-ons page.

Visually Following NVDA Focus

Marc Sutton

Hi,
Is there a feature in NVDA to make the cursor/focus more visible to a sighted person so they can follow what an NVDA user is doing with the keyboard? Thanks for any help with this.

Remove the addon.
Restart NVDA.
In your configuration folder, in Addons subfolder, check if exists any folder related to WeatherPlus.
If yes, delete and restart NVDA.
Reinstall the addon.

Having problems here. Informed that there is an update available. However when I attempt to tdo this I am told that the addon cannot contact the internet. When I try manually to download the thing from the NVDA addon site my computer just hangs when I press the download link.

Is there something I should know here?

Oh,  I totally get the resistance to using windows security products.  I'm glad you and yours have had no problems but microsoft firewall and antivirus are completely transparent and volnerable.  Do your homework.  Look at third party testing reports and you will see that they don't stack up.  Unfortunately that's also been my personal and professional experience over the years.  I can't stop you from relying on microsoft, but I have to scratch my own head.

Thanks for chiming in, but this isn't quite what I'm looking for.

Best,

Erik

Braile entry on Windows

Justin Harris <justin171185@...>

Hello everyone,

So, today I will get my laptop, which is a two in one. I have read about an addon for NVDA that will allow Braille entry through the regular pc keyboard. I was wondering if there was a way to enter Braille on the touch screen, like something similar to SoftBraille keyboard for Android. After spending some time on Google, I haven't found anything, but figured it would be worth asking. Also, as a side qu3estion, which screen reader works best on the touch screen, NVDA or Narrator? Do any of you find yourselves switching back and forth frequently between the two, depending on the app or program you are using?

Thanks,

Justin

nvda compatible firewall?

erik burggraaf <erik@...>

Hi all, I just received a little tiny computer a la windows 10. I have one very specific purpose for this little PC and it requires windows, but I really don't want the hell that comes along with windows.

My first idea was to see if I could find or build an ultra-lite windows 10 without cortana, and a whole raft of the other services I never have any intention of using. So much work.

Now I'm thinking just get an ultra-secure software firewall, slap it on and call it done. That and a malware bytes just in case.

I used to use look'n'stop. It hasn't been updated in a while. I'd like to find a modern nvda accessible security equivilant package for the cost of look'n'stop or less.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Best,

Erik

Re: Windows 10 S

George McCoy <slr1bpz@...>

According to Paul Thurrott at thurrott.com and Mary Joe Foley at allaboutmicrosoft.com, if you buy a windows 10 s ;device before January 1 2018, you can upgrade it to windows 10 pro free of charge. After that date, you can still upgrade to pro but it will cost you $50 u.s.
Windows 10 s will not run native win32 apps. The only apps it runs are the ones in the Microsoft app store. This means that things like Chrome and I- tunes will not run. Also, MS Edge is the default browser and that setting cannot be changed. Bing is the default search engine and that setting cannot be changed either.

For more information on this topic check out last week's Windows Weekly podcast at https://twittv.com.

I gather Microsoft are trying to do a google and making an operating system
that sits mainly online like the Chrome books do, but using their office
suite.
At the moment my only reason for mentioning it here is that as far as I
know, the only screenreader that can work on such a device will be Narrator,
and as a heads up if anyone sees these machines about and assumes that if
its windows it must work with nvda.
I have no idea when they will be available and thus far I've only herd
about them from two sources.
So watch out.

Very much appreciated.

Re: Questions about Hebrew Braille and ading braille tables to Liblouis

Hey there, moti,

Nice to see you here!

Thanks so much!

The reason why I prefer a 6-dot table is that I need to use it with a virtual braille keyboard in Android.

I'm perfectly happy with the one NVDA has for use on my pc; in addition, a friend added Hebrew, Russian and Greek to the Italian 8-dot tablea few years ago, and that's quite handy!

Thanks for your advice.

Ciao, Shalom,

Ollie

Ollie,

First, I don't suggest you to use 6-dot Hebrew Braille table.
But if you still wish, you can go to the Hebrew 8-dot Braille table, copy it and save it in another place.
After that you can paste the copy to the documents and then you can open it with Notepad and edit it.
You have to delete the 7 and 8 dots in the HEBREW SECTION.
Then you can save it and replace the original 8 dots.
I hope it's clear.

Hello all,

Does anyone happen to know whether there is a literary braille (6-dot)
Hebrew braille table?

And, how can a braille table be added to Liblouis, if at all possible?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Ciao,
Ollie

Hello John,

If there's a literary Hebrew braille table in Liblouis, that's fine enough. I need it for the Soft Braille Keyboard in Android, but would also love to have it in NVDA.

I'll see what can be done.

Meanwhile, thanks so much for pointing me to the table.
