Re: Navigating a Word Document with Editable Fields?

First off, did you verify that the document was not protected? Everytime I see a protected Word document I think of the play Camelot, where they say FIE on this FIE on that so to take a document out of protected mode press alt followed by F followed by I followed by E. (File Info Enable Editting ) It has been a long time since I saw a word form, and I understand that the areas you are not supposed to edit will be read-only, but should be readble with the review cursor.

Does anyone know NVDA settings or word settings I can do to make this document readable? Here are the problems: 1. I am unable to press left or right arrow keys, or ctrl+left or ctrl+right arrow keys to move through each row. 2. I am unable to erase content after typing it without arrowing down, out of the box, then arrowing back into the box 3. The text in between the tables is not read by NVDA 4. Using table navigation commands doesn't seem to work properly, from column 2, I am unable to move to column 1. 5. When arrowing through the table, I sometimes get stuck in an endless loop, around the check boxes 6. Arrowing up and down doesn't seem to always show the same content I just past. Thank you,

Re: speaking commands
Jonathan COHN
That was a nice feature of WindowEyes, one could create side effects for keys bound to a function, so that either prior to or after the primary function ran, other events could occur including speaking or routing focus to the best place. This was a menu driven type system, that required no programming skills to implement.
From:
nvda@nvda.groups.io <nvda@nvda.groups.io> External email alert: Be wary of links & attachments. And, it is not so difficult to implement my suggestion: 1 - Typable keys, including letters, numbers, accents, like accut, grabv, tilde, circunflex, diaresis and so on, and enter; 2 - Arrow keys; 3 - Command keys, all other keys.
After that, close all tickets about this. If after that, someone reopens or create new tickets, the solution can be evaluated again...

I agree absolutely – it never made any sense at all to me that people who needed assistance with locating control keys would inevitably also have similar problems locating and using the routine cursor keys. It seemed a bizarre design assumption from the first to compel noisy feedback from every push of a cursor key if you wanted to avail yourself of reassurance with the use of a control key like alt or control etc. David Griffith David Griffith

Yes, this only happens when I restart the machine, not when quitting NVDA, then restarting it from the desktop or its shortcut. Anyway, not a big problem. Thanks. Nightowl

It doesn't happen if you just restart NVDA? If the braille display is working, and you completely quit NVDA then restart it from the desktop shortcut or control+alt+n, the braille display will still be working? Luke

Hi,

I am using the latest version of NVDA, and I have saved my settings configuration. My problem of NVDA defaulting to no Braille happens when I shut down my PC then switches it on again. Perhaps there is some conflict between Narrator and NVDA. Anyhow, it's not too much of a problem, just a little annoying having to restart NVDA each time I turn on my PC. Than you all. Nightowl

Re: nvda add-on for internet download manager
Not that I know of. But if you happen to be a VLC user it's worth taking a look at this page, 11 VLC Tricks & Hidden Features You Must Know, where a discussion of how to use VLC to download YouTube Video is one of those "tricks."

An important announcement about Enhanced Touch Gestures add-on: major features to be removed in a future add-on release
Hello all,
At least I’m almost done with the summer vacation (yay)… Thanks for all your encouragements.
The following announcement is for users of Enhanced Touch Gestures add-on:
A future version of NVDA will include two major features from Enhanced Touch Gestures add-on, namely the ability to toggle touch support from everywhere and a command to do just that. These two features were added in Enhanced Touch Gestures add-on back in 2017. Three years later, these features are being reviewed for inclusion in a future version of NVDA.
However, there is one more feature that’s part of the add-on that must be discontinued due to the above changes: touch passthrough. You can ask NVDA to suspend touch gestures for up to ten seconds. However, now that there is a possibility that touch gestures support might be turned on and off with a keyboard command, there is no need for automatic touch passthrough. As a result, this feature will be removed from the add-on.
To help with this transition, the following will happen in Enhanced Touch Gestures 20.07 and later:
Because these changes require quite a long time to test, Enhanced Touch Gestures 20.07 will be delayed by up to a week (originally planned for early July). In the meantime, I’ll release version 20.06.2 to address compatibility issues discovered during testing (and for some of you, 20.06.2 is the last version where Enhanced Touch Gestures settings panel will be shown). Thanks. Cheers, Joseph

Re: Navigating a Word Document with Editable Fields?
Hello Bryan, Thank you, I know who built it, so I'll send them some materials on making accessible Word forms. I sent them some information on accessible PDF forms earlier, but it is slightly different in Word. I've never used an accessible form in Word, other than some check boxes,, so didn't know what to expect. Thank you,

Re: Navigating a Word Document with Editable Fields?
Brandon,
Where there's a will, and a bit of devious research, there's a way. This link is to a downloadable version of the form you provided earlier, but in RTF format, on my Google Drive with all protections removed: https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=1_MxI6QBGRvzVw3uq-_MLIBjn_QNB1uJV As a result, it behaves very much like any regular word document, and you can feel free to promptly do a Save As and save it in docx format again. I left all of the form fields in the document. Everywhere that you need to fill in will have the phrase "Click or tap here to enter text" which you can select and actually fill in what was noted in the document just before that. The exception is the date, where the phrase, "Click or tap here to enter date" is used. The table format remains, but at least you should be able to hear what you need to hear in order to fill this thing out independently. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform.
