AAcutally for me it does not, unless maybe I have my volume on that sound card turned down. but I unplug my usb sound card and nvda and system sounds go silent. I think in my case the fix is simple though.

Hi! I followed Kerryn’s steps and it didn’t work for me. Both The computer and NVDA audio was coming through the headphones. I think I want to do what Sile wants to do. I want NVDA to come through my headphones only when they are plugged in the headphone jack and the Computer audio for example music and game sounds to come out the computer speakers. Maybe you need 2 sound cards for that? Which I don’t know how many I have and don’t know how you can tell.

As long as you keep plugging and unplugging the headset you are going to have this problem. When you plug in a USB headset it becomes the new default device. When you unplug it the system falls back to the internal default speaker.

If that is all that happens, it isn't worth worrying about.  If you can't use a program you should be able to use, that is another question.  And NVDA often announces unknown at some point when a program is opening or when something like a web page is being loaded.  It is seeing something it doesn't know how to interpret.  If the screen-reader works as it should, it doesn't matter.

Screen-readers operate in complex environments.  Not every behavior where you hear something that indicates something can't be interpreted by a screen-reader is a problem.

The question is how the screen-reader works in the general context and if it operates as expected.

There are some programs that are inaccessible but that is different than hearing something irrelevant when a program loads and having the screen-reader work properly with it in general.  Every time I open Firefox, I hear SP spoken.  Something causes NvDA to announce this when the program opens.  It doesn't matter.  the prohgram runs properly when it is opened.

Running the tool won't hurt anything.  it associates certain dll files that may no longer be properly associated in Windows.  It is generally used in cases such as when you are running a browser and you hear unknown when you try to do most things.  I have no idea about the desktop problem being discussed but if it worked, it worked.

but my point is, and if I'm wrong, others will correct me I hope, that there is no harm in running the utility.  If you just run it to see if it corrects this or that probem, you probably won't see a correction, but for circumstances such as I described, you likely will.  I believe the kinds of problems I'm discussing could occur any time you are in browse mode, such as when reading a PDF document in Acrobat Reader.

Also, for those who don't have a reversion system in place, it is very important to have system restore running.  It often isn't running for this or that reason and it can't be assumed to be running.  There are times when system restore is by far the fastest and easiest way to revert a computer to a time when things were working correctly and it avoids doing a lot of trouble shooting in many cases.  So knowing about the utility we are discussing is important but making sure system restore is running and that you have at least one recent restore point available is very important as well unless, as I said, you are using a reversion system, which most people aren't.

Yep, there is even a video plugin you can use they talk about on there. I have to dig in the archives for more info, but I believe the archives are public for anyone to browse. You get a wealth of info on there including links to the wiki, osara, and sws. I might suggest they include reapack on there as well. That set of tools just rocks and it is accessible with nvda. But yeah if you have any more questions please subscribe to that rwp list. It is high trafic but most of us are sound engineers like myself and musicians like myself who use this every day.

Mastering Github with a screen reader

Assunto: [nvda] Mastering Github with a screen reader

Hello NVDA folks,

As you may know, Microsoft acquired Github a few years ago. Today Github has become an important tool in many sectors of technology.

I must admit that I have not mastered Github yet, but I want to, and I bet a lot of people on this list are in the same position.

In my communications with friends working at Microsoft, I have advocated for Microsoft Accessibility to step up and sponsor a training program for persons with disabilities to master Github.

Perhaps something already exist, but I have not found it. There was a start at:

https://bats.fyi/2016/08/19/mastering-github-with-a-screen-reader-part-1/

but there was no part 2.

And I have found some books at Bookshare, but these are not geared to the screen reader user.

I hope this will start a thread that can help us collect resources and best practices surrounding Github. What tools do people use and how did those that are successful  learn to master Github?

Best

George

It was once when I started my computer that the desktop interface was semi-accessible for me. Then, I decided to run the very tool we're just talking about. After the action had been performed, the accessibility issue was okay again.

So, let's suppose for what purposes the tool is used. 😀

Re: what is NVDA's com registration fixing tool?

Gene

It is more likely that something has changed in Eclipse itself. Could

Re: Downloading from YouTube

Gene

First, Are you a member of the chat group or of another general blindness technology discussion group?  Here is my e-mail address.
This topic may be closed at any time for being inappropriate for this list.  I'm giving you my address so you can continue talking with me but I'm just one person.  It would be a much better idea to be ready to transfer the discussion to another list.

Now, to your issues:
Which version are you using?  If version 3, unless you know how to look, the program will appear to do nothing.

Do you know how to use Switch, for converting files?  I am not trying to discourage you from learning object navigation and you may find it useful in other contexts.  But if you are using version 3, your choices are to learn object navigation enough to use version 3, or to use version 2, and then use a program like Switch to convert the downloaded file to the format you want.  But at this point, we don't know if the program is working or not.

As far as posting the address, don't do it.  Have the address in the clipboard.  Then open the program.  If you tab around, you will see that the address is already in the program.  It automatically places the address in the clipboard in the field the program uses to tell it what page to go to.  I don't know what happens if you manually paste it, but that may be one reason the program isn't going to the page.  You may be placing a second copy of the address into the field, though I'd have to check the program to see.

Have the address in the clipboard before you open the program.  Do so by going the the actual Youtube page with what you want to play on it.  Press f6 to move to the address bar.  Copy the address to the clipboard with control c.  You don't need to select it first.  It is already automatically selected.

Close the browser if you wish.
Open Pontes Media downloader.  If you tab around, you will see the address in the edit field.
Press the download button, or whatever it says, and see if the file is downloaded and converted.  Even if you don't know how to check at this point, if you are converting a song, wait for perhaps four or five minutes and look in the place where the file should be found.

At this point, we have no way to know why you are having problems with different converters but following this procedure will help us determine if Pontes Media Converter is working properly.

I don't know why.  Which version of the program are you using?  In version 3.x, it may appear that nothing happens but using object navigation shows if something is.  It is much easier for those not aquainted with object navigation in NVDA to use version 2x of the program because what is occurring is shown in the title bar and reading it shows what is occurring.

Also, how are you placing the download address in the program?

What do you mean by Ponts stopped working.  It works fine here, both 2.x and 3.x versions.  Please give details.  If the program generally had stopped working, I'd have seen lots of discussion on various lists I follow.  We need to try to figure out why it isn't working in your case.

I will also put two additional PlugIns on my dropbox folder that is issential to help you on your way.

First is Osara, Open source Reaper accessibility:
