What do you mean by Ponts stopped working.  It works fine here, both 2.x and 3.x versions.  Please give details.  If the program generally had stopped working, I'd have seen lots of discussion on various lists I follow.  We need to try to figure out why it isn't working in your case.

Re: Downloading from YouTube

I wouldn't use the dvdvideosoft products for 1 reason.

Opencandy which is a unwanted program previder and uniblue which are one of these programs, dvdvideosoftware stuff is full of spyware that will mangle things.

I used to use that for a while but eventually the spyware situation became a lot of programs and a lot of extras that crippled windows.

I struggled with it for 5 years, but after having to reformat just about every time I updated it because of more and more spyware installed and even with it removed th mangled nature of windows needing me to reformat, for what I used the software for what it was I had to reevaluate its use.

Same was for  cdex to.

I tried the applian stuff but some important bits are mouse only and while I can set it up, and while yes for the price its really good pro software  I don't use it enough.

I used to use youtube2mp3 and others but stopped doing that.

Now every software package has its issues.

For me the pontes stuff will jump into the file menu when you hit alt to switch tabs, and that can be a little infuriating at times but its just a small niggle.

Sometimes a video in a playlist can not be processed due to, an error with a hex value but thats about it.

While there are options to update its components I never have to so it must update itself all the time and thats fine with me.

Re: Downloading from YouTube

I agree, I have been using a lot of stuff.

I even brought the applian stuff to use and while I did use it at one point, I now use pontes media downloader.

It uses youtube dl, and ffmpeg and can download both webm and mp4 streams and convert to just about everything including, apple, ios, mp4 audio, mp3 and flac and maybe a few more formats to.

Its a lot more stable.

I used to use youtube dlg for a while, but the redesigned 0.4 and up are completely inaccessible and its version of youtube dl is just not coping with things.

Pontes media downloader is oracle java based and it just does.

It doesn't have the progress bars and does use a lot of cpu when working but java notifies start and finnish as well as sending windows notifications.

The system pulls youtube fast and has handled playlists.

You do have to kill nvda when installing it but its good for what it is and for a free java based app is really good for its interface.

Hey Folks,

I've corrected the spelling in the topic title to make it easier for future searchers of the archive.  I would appreciate it if any follow-ups be done using this message, or another with the title "Formatting on a Braille Display" so that the new title stays as the only one.

Hi.  Unfortunately, I can't think of any Digital Audio Work Station that meets your needs except for Reaper which has very basic Synthesizers as it's virtual instruments.  Do you have a synthesizer Keyboard?  You can, if you do, use the sounds from there.  Reaper costs about $60 US, but yu can actually download an evaluation copy and use it for as long as you like, with the reminder to buy it popping up when you first use it of course.  It is accessible to a high degree if you download SWS and Osara to enhance it's  use.  I must also clarify that most Daws come with watered down virtual instruments, and most good or reasonable ones have to be bought.  Reaper also has very advanced audio editting capabilities.  Cheers!

It does not. It can show the generic dots 7 and 8, but not true formatting symbols. If I am wrong, I’d love to be shown otherwise.

Major +318 for what you've just said.  I would welcome Braille accessibility to get more priority in NVDA in general, grateful for what I have, but speech just gets the best of things, first and often solely.  And some of us (I for one) don't use anything but Braille (not a matter of choice).  To answer the specific question, if configured well, the BrailleExtender addon can display dot-78 on bold or italic or even spelling errors (something I particularly appreciate), but it can't blink.  So I usually set it to represent only one format, multiple formats would be confusing, though I suggested blinking (and different blinking speeds to indicate different formats, as some have provided).  I agree that, in the end, using the "official Braille representation" for bold, italic and so on is interesting. Trouble is: it's Braille table dependent and not always accurate. sNot all Braille table offer such a syntax.  As far as I know, NVDA is still not able to send formatting info to Liblouis for them to be displayed in whatever braille table is being used. Perhaps, one day, hopefully!

Cheers,

Vincent

I’d much rather have the actual braille symbols for italics, bold, and such used, instead of a generic highlighting effect. After all, formatting logic is in a braille code for a reason, and I would hope that screen readers would take advantage of Liblouis’ ability to show such formatting.

Hello,

You are raising a very important question. I would greatly welcome  seeing such characteristics displayed in Braille, which are commonly used in scientific writings for, e.g., book titles that  get italicized. The screen readers I have been using to this day use dots 7, 8, or 7+8 or can be made to "blink". I realize that NVDA's original purpose was to make text audible; yet it would be a plus to have such elements also available as a second option--especially for those of us who primarily depend on a Braille display.

I do not know about this version, but I can tell you this has been happening for quite a few versions of nvda and nothing seems to be getting done about it. rather I might be better rewording a bit it might be difficult to track down. but the result is the same for a few versions now this has been happening and it has been reported on and I am sure off list to the nv-access people.

I updated NVDA to the latest build 2019.2.1 a few days ago.  I noticed when restarting the system, that NVDA would not start. Thinking that it was a glitch---a one time occurrence, I just started it with the hot key.  It happened again and again I used the hotkey to start NVDA.  I then checked the menu/settings/general and indeed found that the check box to start NVDA at start up was unchecked.  I checked it, restarted the system and now everything is fine.
Did anyone else experience this with the latest build 2019.2.1?
