They should have already been investigated for buying up all the screen manufacturers.  In any other industry, this would be considered a monopoly, and would have had to be approved ty the ftc.  However, somehow, these guys slipped in under the radar, and the ftc never noticed.  Maybe someone should notify them about this company.  It seems to me they are definitely engauging in monopoly building, which in this "great" country of ours is illegal.

VFO Expands Again with Acquisition of The Paciello Group

VFO, owners of the Freedom Scientific, Optelec, and AI Squared brands, is growing in size once again with the acquisition of The Paciello Group.
Founded in 2002, The Paciello Group specializes in accessibility testing and remediation, especially as it relates to WCAG 2.0 and Section 508, two standards which guide organizations and government agencies toward accessibility compliance. VFO had an existing team specializing in enterprise-class accessibility solutions, though the acquisition will allow them to put much more of a focus on these areas.
Some of their clients according to their website include AT&T, The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Google, Hyatt, and Charles Schwab.

In Their Own Words

The Paciello Group is passionately dedicated to helping government agencies, technology vendors, e-commerce corporations, and educational institutions make their technology equally accessible to all people, including those with disabilities. The company offers professional consulting, technology solutions, and services to ensure that clients reach all audiences effectively and efficiently while meeting commercial, governmental and international standards such as Section 508 and WCAG.

Holy crap. Does anyone else realize that in any other industry, this would be grounds for a Federal investigation? Is anyone else worried by the worst screen reader maker acquiring the entire AT industry outside of Apple and Google? I know I am, considering their track record of crazy litigation.

It will probably be released next month in June. And a brand new orbit20 will only cost around or a bit less than $500 and its liquid and dust resistant, rugged and durable, the only one made to work in hostile environments. And it works good with NVDA.

Not metro apps as in the store. I am not sure if it is only metro apps
they do or if you can get desk top ones of which i do not think so.

The metro apps are the ones you would see on say a windows phone and now
crossing over to windows 10 computers and tablets.

I am trying to get my head around the windows store and think i have a
rough idea of how to navigate it. I will also have to look on how to
download some thing as well etc.

I know the apple store and the google store but have not really looked
at the windows version as of yet.

I am thinking of putting together a tutorial on how to use it once i
figure it out as in the basic of using it.

I guess that is why also i asked the question if some one had put one
together yet or had a idea of navigating it as in the basics.

Resource Monitor is great! but I'm wondering if could the idea of aside of telling us how much we've used on the drive, it'd say how much space is left? For instance, here on my Windows7 HP Laptop, It now says C:\ (NTFS unidad): 236.21gb de 280.79gb utilizado 84.1%. F:\ (FAT32 unidad):
7.25mb de 1.99gb utilizado 0.4%. Yes I could subtract if I were want to know how much space is left, but nevertheless it'd be interesting to maybe incorporate (maybe via the number8 slot since I use the command
NVDA+shift to invoke the Resource Monitor commands) some sort of a
command that'd let us know space left? I'm loving the 7 command for boot time!

Why not use the find command and type the first four or five letters of the
first word you are looking for if it isn't a common enough word to be found
many times before the occurrence you want?  I'm not saying that this method
will work better than the other methods being discussed but the find command
is far superior for finding something on an unfamiliar page if you don't
want to look through the page and if you think you know or have a very good
guess of a word in the item you are looking for.  The find command is one of
the most valuable and underused browser navigation commands.  When I go to
an unfamiliar page and I want to send a message to someone, I search for the
first vor letters of contact.  I know that almost every web page that makes
provision for a message to be sent to staff has the word contact in the
link.  If I want to listen to a stream on a site such as a radio station
site, I search for the word listen.  It's all very fine to use the links
list but suppose the link has the word listen but its not the first word?

Ok just using firefox I can find the AD link by hitting the letter B about six or seven times till I get to the turn off HD button then arrow down once and you should be or should be on the option to turn on or off AD

They may well be a quicker way of getting there but that’s the best I can do for now

Well that program is telling me on all its channels that there is no

program info available and to check my firewall, which is fine, since its

the bbc who have removed the data

Its true that ad listing was OK up till yesterday, but on an update list

this morning it too has erased everything completely now. I It had Dr who on

it and eastenders from 2nd may but all tht has now gorn. so we need to have

some instructions on how to use the web site to get ad, the content is still

there but seems not to be obvious any more how to access it since the bbc

seem to have screwed up all the links. Over to somebody else.

Now unless iits easy to do, I suggest not filling this list with too many

suggestions as I'm aware this is a worldeide list and uk web sites may be

seen as a bit of clutter by, for example American users!

It seems that as well as taking away the xml code that webie used for

channel program listings, the pages have changed as well as for those in the

uk like myself it was relatively easy to find a show, go to the page say yes

to tv licence, and then select ways to watch and switch on the AD. NOw when

you go to say yes to the tv licence, it immediately plays and one cannot

even hear if the selection is there. One assumes its somewhere but either

nvda/firefox is not seeing it or they have completely screwed it up.

Has anyone here in the UK managed to watch programme with AD since last

week when it changed without warning?

Resource Monitor suggestion: knowing how much is left rather than used?

Gerardo Corripio

Resource Monitor is great! but I'm wondering if could the idea of aside of telling us how much we've used on the drive, it'd say how much space is left? For instance, here on my Windows7 HP Laptop, It now says C:\ (NTFS unidad): 236.21gb de 280.79gb utilizado 84.1%. F:\ (FAT32 unidad): 7.25mb de 1.99gb utilizado 0.4%. Yes I could subtract if I were want to know how much space is left, but nevertheless it'd be interesting to maybe incorporate (maybe via the number8 slot since I use the command NVDA+shift to invoke the Resource Monitor commands) some sort of a command that'd let us know space left? I'm loving the 7 command for boot time!

Why not use the find command and type the first four or five letters of the first word you are looking for if it isn't a common enough word to be found many times before the occurrence you want?  I'm not saying that this method will work better than the other methods being discussed but the find command is far superior for finding something on an unfamiliar page if you don't want to look through the page and if you think you know or have a very good guess of a word in the item you are looking for.  The find command is one of the most valuable and underused browser navigation commands.  When I go to an unfamiliar page and I want to send a message to someone, I search for the first vor letters of contact.  I know that almost every web page that makes provision for a message to be sent to staff has the word contact in the link.  If I want to listen to a stream on a site such as a radio station site, I search for the word listen.  It's all very fine to use the links list but suppose the link has the word listen but its not the first word?

Wrong? Maybe it's a sign that NVDA is offering significant competition to JAWS and VFO is acting in the same way as businesses act when they face significant competition. As I said, we don't know enough about the implications for NVDA development to know if that is an important factor in the acquisition. Maybe, maybe not. NVDA is certainly competitive enough, I would think to not be significantly harmed if the partnership is terminated. As far as VFO is concerned, that's how businesses operate in a more or less free market and, unless it can be shown that VFO is a significant threat to competition in the screen-reader field, that's just how things are. I hardly think they are. They continue to lose market share to NVDA and they have lost some to apple and to System Access. More blind people use mobile devices and they may have lost a small amount of market share to that. Many people use the free Window-eyes and they probably lost some market share to that. Even if Window-eyes is not developed further, when it becomes too outdated to be used, those using it are much more likely to switch to NVDA than go back to a paying product. I see increasingly on other lists I follow, NVDA being used by more people and new users ask questions fairly often on those lists. The frequency of such discussions is significantly higher than it was perhaps six months or a year ago. Whether people like what VFO does or not, it is not outside of expected behavior in business standards in the United States. If you don't like those standards, that's another question.

VFO, owners of the Freedom Scientific, Optelec, and AI Squared brands,
is growing in size once again with the acquisition of The Paciello Group.
Founded in 2002, The Paciello Group specializes in accessibility
testing and remediation, especially as it relates to WCAG 2.0 and
Section 508, two standards which guide organizations and government
agencies toward accessibility compliance. VFO had an existing team
specializing in enterprise-class accessibility solutions, though the
acquisition will allow them to put much more of a focus on these areas.
Some of their clients according to their website include AT&T, The
Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Google, Hyatt, and Charles Schwab.

I had a problem with Openbook about two weeks ago and a support agent provided the solution quickly and accurately. That is just one person's experience with one agent dealing with one product. Holy crap. Does anyone else realize that in any other industry, this
would be grounds for a Federal investigation? Is anyone else worried by
the worst screen reader maker acquiring the entire AT industry outside
of Apple and Google? I know I am, considering their track record of
crazy litigation.

from american printing house. It will probably be released next month
in June. And a brand new orbit20 will only cost around or a bit less
than $500 and its liquid and dust resistant, rugged and durable, the
only one made to work in hostile environments. And it works good with
NVDA.

Re: Anyone else having trouble finding the AD in the new look bbc I player?

Chris

Is it just me or is it bust.

Re: problems with vfo

Gene

I'll make one more comment and that will probably be my last in the thread.  I didn't mean to imply in my last message, that it is at all certain that VFO will cause The Paciello Group to terminate the partnership with NVDA or will do so at all soon.  Look at what has happened so far with Window-eyes.  It may no longer be being developed but it is still being sold, as far as I know and the free version remains available.  For whatever reasons, VFO isn't aggressively stamping out Window-eyes.  As I said, I'm not naieve and the partnership may be terminated quickly but we just don't know.  I await more information and informed comments from those close to the situation before forming any conclusions.

It won't mean much of anything.  The acquisition may give VFO people with expertise in areas they don't have or don't have as much in now but it isn't in an area that they are competing directly in or are dominant in.  This is a lot of hand wringing over nothing.  It's obvious that VFo is losing significant market share to JAWS in the personal use market.  I don't know about in the business and academic markets.  But VFo is not a monopoly.

Oh boy.

What will this mean for this deal?
