Hi,

You say you’re using build 15063? If so, have you tried with latest next snapshots? If not, I strongly recommend that you do so.

Cheers,

Joseph

I use Edge for low vision and testing. It really should work a bit better in combination. Edge is the best green browser for low vision.  Narrator does not cause a fault condition, but has a different reading behavior.

I ask that since I generally stick to either firefox, or actually internet explorer 11 for that site, while I do in fact use chrome as my primary browser for most other web content, but, that's purely because chrome insists on rendering it in a much more fancy way, whereas something like IE11 renders it the same way it has been doing for a few yers now, and, generally, firefox seems to as well.

But, if missed something on this thread earlier on, then I apologise, since haven't really been following it as such.

Re: Microsoft Edge issue - Forms refreshing

In what sense does it provide better for low vision? Is this in terms of form sof adjustment/add-ons?

Ask that since, generally, firefox can offer almost any add-on that any other browser offers, including some that let you adjust general content rendering, etc., but, sorry - I have literally zero experience with low vision adjustment/adaptation, since I went from sighted to 100% blind a few years myself, but, for example, what comes to mind is that if this relates to forms of magnification, etc. then maybe using windows magnifier, along with another browser might be of some use?

But, like said, sorry, but, have no experience with this aspect of accessibility myself.

Re: Microsoft Edge issue - Forms refreshing

Stephen,

I will echo Gene's observation that MS-Edge does not yet have a number of accessibility issues worked out, which is but one reason that I avoid it and encourage my clients to do so as well until they are.

I know what follows will sound like difficult advice, particularly since you are early in your personal journey with losing your vision, but you will find that you must have both an alternative screen reader (and on Windows 10 that could be Narrator) and an alternative web browser or browsers in your "back pocket" for use when necessary.  There are definitely enough similarities between the major web browsers that this is not close to impossible to do for what most of us consider routine browsing tasks.   JAWS and NVDA have enough similarity that using one or the other becomes reasonably easy, too.  I have not yet played with Narrator because it's not something that any of my clients have used or wanted to use yet.  I have seen all sorts of websites that would not cooperate with a specific screen reader, web browser, or both and that's for browsers other than Edge.  Even if it's at the most basic level you will occasionally need to punt to another browser, screen reader, or both to work around issues with the occasional quirky website that just doesn't want to behave for you.

Your description with regard to MS-Edge refreshing is interesting to me because, even though I'm not generally using a screen reader, it will do this when I return focus to my Gmail that's being displayed in the Edge browser if I've been away from that screen for a while.  This is a 100% consistent behavior that's been going on for a long time now.  I think it applies to other webpages, too, but now I'll have to test that out to be sure.

Re: Microsoft Edge issue - Forms refreshing

Edge still doesn't have all accessibility issues worked out.  If this doesn't solve the problem, using another browser will.  When working in a combo box where this happens, be in forms mode, then issue the command alt down arrow before entering information or up and down arrowing to make a choice.  What you are describing shouldn't happen in a date field but either the site is doing something it shouldn't or Edge is.  While the interface such as how to change settings or how you get to the favorites or book marks differes from browser to browser, most of what you do is identical in any browser that supports browse mode so you can try different browsers easily.

Website? And, have you tried different browsers, like firefox?

Sounds like might be a form of DHTML making changes to page contents when you make a selection in the drop-down box, or something?

Absolutely crazy situation if you ask me. the details of a browser in use surely should be communicated in full and assumptions should not be made in this way.

I explain this:
when you access with google chrome, facebook is thinking that you are using an android device, so the mobile version of the website is designed with touch screen in mind.
If you want solve the problem you must change user agent, so you tell m.facebook.com that you are using firefox 33, also if you are using google chrome.

In chrome webstore there are many extensions that allow you to change user agent, currently I'm using:
User-Agent Switcher for Chrome.

The trick is to define a rule, in which you use always google chrome as user agent, but when you digit m.facebook.com automagically your user agent is firefox 33.

Hope this help!

In the Internet Explorer Examples as reproduced in the message, links weren't read correctly.  Underlying code was read.  But Chrome read the links correctly.  It may be that if it can't find text it can use, it skips the underlying code and doesn't treat it as a link.  It may treat it as though it isn't there as far as what the user sees.  I don't know if that is what is going on, but it looks suspiciously as though it is.  If so, and if that is what Chrome does when working with unlabeled links in general, that is a major problem.

I tested this as well using the Chrome browser, and I've got the same result. Perhaps the structure in viewing of this site is or the format of the html is different though I hardly used Chrome for my daily works.

If the program in question is SPL or Station Playlist, there's an add on for NVDA that will let you navigate columns in the playlist in just the way you want to.  This feature will be in the next stable release which should be out in a few days or a week at latest if all goes well.

Thanks, Robert.  However, the columns that I want to navigate are outside typical browsers and are in a radio automation software program.  I would’ve thought that NVDA would feature a way to hear the status of a particular column quickly without the need to physically scroll over to it, especially if it is several columns over from the left.

Hi Jonathan,
I think you may use alternatively the addons for the addons for Easy Table Navigator which I believe Joseph Lee is the main author of this addons. I've been using this for couple of times specially when navigating to the column. or you could assigned keystroke for it. Below is the mentioned link:
https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/easyTableNavigator.en.html
If you have questions to this addons, I may suggest to leave him a message directly or here in the mailing list for the instruction. But, I believe there is instructions that is mention for the Help of that addons as well.

Hi All,

I wasn’t able to find this in the NVDA  user’s guide.  I know that you can use control+alt and the arrow keys to navigate columns, but is there a way of reading  a single column header?  In other words, Instead of having to press a command 6 times to get to the 6th column and hear its status, is there a way of just pressing a single keystroke, alt+6 for example, that will read it quickly?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Disabling the Update Sound Effect

All,

Is it possible to disable the update sound effect? I am running a development version, and updates come frequently. I’d rather not hear the chime for each update.

Thank you,

Friend,

Although I'm not using m.facebook.com, let me ask a question.

What do you think about switching to the focus mode in Chrome, and trying to tab to the desired area?

It's happened to help me when I've been unable to reach some contents in the browse mode.
