Re: Can't get speech to come out of my new headset

Hi.
I had this going on when upgrading my realtech with the ms drivers.
I would revert the drivers then install the latest realtech drivers they are some where juust search for hd audio codec realtech and you will find them, 2.81 was the last version I got february, so chances are it will be a 2.8x version of some kind.
Note, once you run the installer and assuming thhe drivers need to be removed you will need sighted help to complete the install and after reboot to initiate the install because sound will die.
I must say a ggood usb driverless headset is good.
I hhave a crappy old plantronics set that someone gave to me ages ago.
Its crappy and uncomfortable but I use it for sound issues simply because it will function till I get things working right.

There is only two possible scenario that could not output a sounds or
audio to your headset. First, you need to double-check the settings of
the playback to ensure that your default output device is the headset
you use. And, lastly, the headset you plug in is not properly inserted
or, there is a problem with the headset itself.

Re: compatible driver updater with nvda

I agree intel and amd have decent driver updaters.
I would get the drivers once a year, you usually don't need to update drivers exactly.
If you need to for a device chances are your main board manufacturer has an updater software mostof them do.
If you use nvidia drivers they do include extra tracking spyware which will keep you updated.
Of cause they want you to share your experience but you don't need to you just don't get full use of the program but its good.
On the odd time a driver can give you grief if its that serious you may get prompted with a direct url to get updated anyway.
I had a system I was working on, and the guy kept saying it locked up and crashed then when it came back it said something about the video card not working.
The tech this guy took itt to said that windows needed to get installed and the system reformatted because of some issue.
I looked at it though just to see howw bad it was.
Surely enough the system crashed in the middle of something and when it came up it said the video card was not working.
I went to get solutions, an alert came up saying that there was a serious issue with the video card, and the manufacturer recomended a driver and firmware update.
A direct link to the packages were listed.
I hit install they downloaded and I installed them.
Intel driver updater will not always find things if they are old but even so main board manufacturers can get out of date to.
If unsure what you have most devices use intel hardware with nvidia or amd or intel displays.
Synaptics or ms mice hardware or logitech, and via orr realtech hd audio soundcards.
A lot of drivers will update themselves and windows drivers at a pinch can be good.

It's good that you solved the problem but the lack of information in your question made it impossible for anyone to provide proper help.  You didn't tell us that it is only NVDA that you weren't getting audio from.  Clearly you were getting audio from other sources.  This is crucial information and your question couldn't even begin to be answered properly without knowing it.

I'm not saying this to give you a hard time.  I'm saying that when you present a problem, if you don't present information, even information you assume is unimportant, you won't get good help much or most of the time.

Also, a windows 10 pc is not automatically a laptop nor a desktop.  A PC means a personal computer not whether it is a desktop or not.

Re: compatible driver updater with nvda

Hi.
Driver magician may do what you need, it does not download malware, and actually does a better job of installing and deleting drivers than windows does.
Driver magician however, is not freeware, and you have to buy it before it will let you download any drivers.
and No, I am not getting paid to spruik driver magician on here, though the money would be nice.

audio to your headset. First, you need to double-check the settings of
the playback to ensure that your default output device is the headset
you use. And, lastly, the headset you plug in is not properly inserted
or, there is a problem with the headset itself.

That doesn't answer any of my questions.  I asked if there is a back headphone jack and if it is a desktop or a laptop computer.

Its the front earphone jack. At least this head has a piece of plastic on the cord that has the mic jack.

If a standard jack is being used, there are no settings.  Either the headphones work or they don't.  The first thing to do is test with other headphones or with some other way of sending a signal to something using a patch cord and the same jack, such as to an amplifier or tape recorder or powered speakers.

The problem may not be the jack itself, it may be a driver problem or some other problem I may not know enough to consider but there are no settings in such a case.

Re: Can't get speech to come out of my new headset

Unless you find that other audio plays and NVDA doesn't, which is extremely unlikely, there is no reason to do anything with NVDA.  It is very unlikely that NVDA has anything to do with the problem.  Do the headphones work when you plug them into other appliances?  The problem is probably in the computer but we should try to make sure that the headphones aren't the problem.

When you plug in the headphones, do the speakers stop playing or do they continue?

Using Narrator, can you find the NVDA.log file for the user and see if it
contains any error messages?
Can you manually load NVDa once your user id has loaded?

Look for the following and make sure it is checked as below.

Automatically start NVDA after I log on to Windows

If you want it also on the log on screen all so check the one under it
with the space bar, then tab to ok.

Now it will start up nvda when windows does and also do the log on
