winamp question
Arlene
Hi list! How do I make Winamp my default program. Someone told me before. I’m senile! I visited a radio station and ended up using Windows Media player. I have winamp as the default player on the control panel. But when I go to an audio file. I end up on Media player! How do I get the file using winamp? Thanks. Having a senior moment!

Holger, If the Version shown in the dialog that comes up after you run the winver command says Version 1703 then you have the Creators Update. If it is anything else, and the most likely candidate would be 1607, you do not. Your machine will automatically update to the Creators Update sometime over the next several months as that update rolls out in waves to computers assigned to "update groups"/cohorts by Microsoft. You need to do nothing to get it as it will be applied by the normal Windows Update process in due time.

Intro and help needed
Brandt Steenkamp <brandt.steenkamp@...>
Hi there folks,
I am a relative new-comer to NVDA, though I am familiar with most of the other screen Readers out there.
I find myself with an interesting issue, namely that my DoubleTalk LT, connected via a Serial to USB adapter does not want to connect to NVDA, and when it does, it talks gibberish. Any help on this issue would be much appreciated.
Thanks so long.a --

Win+R then type whatever you want won't always
work, as that's looking for a specifically valid command or file name
path.
I think what you're thinking of is the search bar
within the start screen.

pandora mail is a bit like Eudora and handles certificates and odd character sets better than Eudora. I haven't tried it with nvda but it worked well with Window Eyes. It costs $14.

Re: disabling add-ons,
Gene
In my second answer I discussed your statement
regarding your comments as opinion. The problem is that you first started
out stating something as though it is a fact, that in general add ons slow
performance. You then went on to emphasize this statement by saying that
you don't use any add ons. Then, after all that, you said that opinions
differ after stating things in such a way as to say that what you are saying is
the case. Your statement that there are different opinions doesn't
compensate for the way you stated and emphasized the statement earlier.
If you had said at the outset something like it is
my opinion that in general add ons slow performance, I would still have written
to contest that but I might not have written in so strong a form.
Considering the importance add ons play as a major
augmentation of the abilities of NVDA and other programs, it is important that
people who know little or nothing about add ons get correct information.
Now and then, an add on may slow performance. In general they
don't.

Glad working now.
If possible, try find a way to archive that driver version, or do something like turn off any form of automatic driver updating?
Stay well
