Larry, when you say that the file came out "as usual" when you used Google Chrome I don't know what it is you are trying to say. Are you saying that the file downloaded properly with the proper name when you used Google Chrome? Also, I don't think that Internet Explorer would be able to change the title of the file on the server. However, that being said I don't recommend using Internet Explorer as a Web browser. Many of today's Web sites are using technologies which Internet Explorer doesn't support. Using Google Chrome is a good choice as it's a modern browser which is fast and will be able to supp;ort any Web site you decide to visit. As time goes by you're going to find that more and more Web sites will no longer work with Internet Explorer the way they used to. Microsoft is no longer adding features and new capabilities to that browser but Chrome should serve you well. While I personally don't care for Firefox that browser does work very nicely with NVDA and you could certainly try that one, as well. Larry, this is very odd. When I download the main engine the file name is Acapela TTS Voices for NVDA - Engines-1.6 (2).nvda-addon The only reason that the (2) characters are contained in the name of the file is because I have a previous copy of the file. May I know which browser you are using and what is the full file name that you have with the .man extension? The direct download link for the engine is

In addition to David's confusion, I too am confused. You say you have the "latest" version of NVDA, which you list as "2020.3". However, the latest version of NVDA is 2020.1. The previous version of NVDA is 2019.3. Your NVDA version is therefore impossible, and I concur with David's confusion about what exactly you're trying to do. Perhaps you could elaborate exactly what steps you are following to get to where you have the problem? That might help us understand what's going on. Luke

I have occasionally encountered this problem and not just with NVDA as the screen reader. The alt-tab solution will certainly work. However, what usually works for me is to press the alt key twice. The first press will move focus to the ribbon and the second press returns focus to the document window and speech should behave as expected. The bottom line is that you want to move focus away from and then back to the document window. Alt-tab certainly does this but pressing either the alt or the Windows key twice will do the same thing and may be a tad easier and quicker.

I have a license for the voices for acapela
when I try and import them using the addon tool, it doesn’t see the .man extention
and it doesn’t work as other addons did when entering on the file.

Congratulations I had to ring Sight and Sound in the UK when I had problems installing version 13 and they were insistent that it was not supported in Windows 10 and that I had to purchase the upgrade to version 14. I cannot remember now what would not work in version 13 but in my case it was unusable. David Griffith

I’m using Kurzweil 13.4 on my Windows 10 system. I had to go to the Kurzweil site and download a patch to update version 13 to 13.4, also there was a set of instructions I had to follow when installing the patch. I called Kurzweil support to ensure I was doing everything correctly. I was told that 13.4 may not work after a major update but I’m currently up to the latest 1909, waiting for 2004, and Kurzweil is still working.

Kurzweil version 14 is working here on Windows 10 but versions before that, such as 13 etc most definitely did not. I had to uprade from 13 to get functionality.

Don’t know .kurzweil 1000 has not been updated since 14. Since the developer of Kurzweil 1000 for the blind has retired. they are still keeping Kurzweil 3000 product around. Maybe download a trial of that and see how it works. The other thing I can think of is open book by VFO or omni page .but with omni page I have not tried and don’t know how well it will work .

Well, looks like fine reader just had a name change since I have gotten it.
It seems to be called fine reader 15 pdf now.
Since support and abbyy don't seem to deem it important to fix the accessibility issues and since it all seems locked to business now I think it is time for me to cut my losses and upgrade.
The last version was released at the end of the year.
What ocr program should I use instead of abbyy fine reader.

I would contact the developer of the add-on. If you look at the actual error message content, whether via the add-ons community link or his own website, it indicates that things are inaccessible because his bill has not been paid. There may be better drivers on Windows Update or on the device manufacturer’s website. i checked in
manufacturer’s website but i couldn't show anything. and yes i tried with duck mode but in the youtube, Skype, Google Meet all which runs with audio and video that time my nvda stopped. as i mentioned above. and again i checked my dongle in other PC so same problem i faceing. should i return this product? please guide me regarding this query. Hi,
Use a utility called SoundVolumeView. It allows you to save soundcard profiles and to reload these. You then can setup a shortcut key to load your profile when you need to change. The application is portable and does not need to be installed.
soundvolumeview.exe /loadprofile laptop.spr
Create a desktop shortcut and assign a key to it.

Because finereader 15 has really slow menu access with nvda which support was able to reproduce. The last update was the end of last year and I put the ticket in on january well could have been just before that. They havn't fixed it and I am tired of waiting. I use my ocr software mainly for paper documents that are not electronic. These are a few bills and letters and while 80% of them are email there are still a bunch of things I need to print and I have decided I can wait no longer. For what I do I don't need the best mainstream software, I need stable and accessible software. I waited for ages and even let it go because of the virus in my country but after getting some notes on the latest end of life on flash and getting rid of it and shockwave I decided to revisit all the stored notes for the year past and found that. I actually would have prefered to continue mainstream. But I have just spent 160 dollars on text cloner pro and I have no regrets, and I'm never going back to abbyy at least not on my own machine. Becides for the price I pay I get a spellchecker, dictionary and a miniture word processer all in the same package. And premier may actually have other bits of software I may come back for at some point. I know mainstream is usually the way but after switching from something to something made with standard guidelines and controls, I can't say I want to move. For one thing the program is faster loading. For another the installer was 90mb in size not 500mb, the program itself is only just over 130mb in size. The program uses the iris engine. I did have and use iris software when I had an older scanner and it was ok. Iris itself costs a lot less than abbyy does well especially on the deal I had but access on the actual program just wasn't good not on the full version. I can't see myself paying for a bigger program even if its issues are solved. Pluss so far I have had no support delays at all. And while there are a few really small issues with a shortcut and part of the installer its basically it. I am sure they will get fixed and there will be not much of a delay in getting things done. It can work on any screen reader and while it did cost a little, it cost slightly less than a fine reader upgrade, and certainly a lot less than a full version of abbyy fine reader. Pluss as I said I just don't want to wait anymore. When I have had issues I have had to sometimes wait a month for any reply and other friends have even had issues with finereader 14. With the way windows is going I need something that will stay updated without changing itself so it becomes hard to use. Pluss it loads fast, and there are no frills. Its just a word processer with a few extras in its menus it even auto detected my scanner.
