That works. Seems there has to be a better solution though. There isn't. Bluetooth is not really expected to be used for short bursts of noise. It is expected (by manufacturers) that it will be used for music, videos, etc. You don't really care if you miss the first couple ms of a sound, if the sound is three minutes long. There probably isn't much content in that first few ms, and you can always rewind if there is. They don't expect there to be periodic speech synthesis coming through the devices. In the case where they do expect that, such as on a phone call, the phone call has enough of a natural noise floor to keep the amplification active, so it's not a problem. Some manufacturers handle this better than others, but quite many of them prioritize power savings over that first few ms of sound. It costs power, and therefore battery life, to keep the audio path open, amplified, and ready for action at all times. The only way to fix this problem, is to keep the bluetooth device in an awake state. The only way you can do that, for these manufacturers which don't use gate circuits with a fast enough response, or for some other reason take long enough to power up that you miss words, is to send some constant sound to them. That's what the Bluetooth Audio add-on does: it sends a noise floor at a high enough level that the bluetooth device stays active longer, and so you don't miss any speech. Don't use it if your tooth device handles speech without difficulty. Do use it if it doesn't. Luke

Re: How Do I Stop the NVDA Updater from Monitoring Specific Addons?
You do not mention what version of NVDA you're using. That matters, as "the newest" is, as far as add-ons go, "the newest compatible with the NVDA you're running."
The Browser Nav page notes that the last version compatible with NVDA 2019.X is Browser Nav version 1.1. I believe version 1.9 is compatible with 2020.X (even though the actual add-on page for the stable version is still showing several versions back). The latest stable version of Tony's Enhancements is 1.4, and Add-On Updater does not deal with development versions. And even the development page for that add-on only has a link to version 1.4. I can find absolutely no reference to a Version 1.7 being "live" anywhere. You can always uninstall the add-ons, then manually download and reinstall them. It could be that will cure the problem going forward. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. How Do I Stop the NVDA Updater from Monitoring Specific Addons?
Kenny <kwashingtonbox@...>
Hello,
I'm noticing the excellent NVDA Add-on Updater doesn't always point to the newest version of specific NVDA add-ons I have installed. BrowserNav Current Version: 1.11 New Version: 1.9 Tony's enhancements Current Version: 1.7 New Version: 1.4 Keep unchecking the box next to the add-ons being referenced, and clicking close, but the Add-on Updater keeps on notifying me there are new updates available which are actually older versions. Any idea how to stop this? Don't want to uninstall the Add-on updater for it does well with other NVDA add-ons.

Re: NVDA and Jabber
Brian Moore
HI. this is very dependant on which version you have. 12.8 and later are pretty good for accessibility. However, we use 12.5 and it is very difficult with NVDa. The jaws scripts work but are so slow as to be almost not worth using.

Re: about audio related issue on bluetooth headset
Tony Malykh
Yes, this strongly suggests that you have some weird
configuration of your audio devices. Youtube sound must be going
to another audio device. VLC must be hijacking your audio by
switching your bluetooth device into headset mode. Probably your
bluetooth dongle creates multiple audio devices and that confuses
NVDA and all the other apps that try to play sound.

I wrote an add-on for this. Tony's enhancements. You can adjust NVDA volume by pressing NVDA+Control+PageUp/PageDown - and by doing this you can match youtube volume .

Why not just enter sndvol in the run dialogue. It is much quicker and has less key strokes. You can even switch play back devices from there via a tool bar that look to be new, unless I never explored it. -- Sarah Alawami, owner of TFFP. . For more info go to our website. NVDA and Jabber
Marquette, Ed
All:
I know at least one other member of this list is a Jabber user. Jabber, a Cisco softphone product, is really wonderful and is mostly accessible. When office phones are not accessible or only marginally accessible, Jabber really helps, and because it is a Cisco product, the IT departments in large companies do not push back--as they do with programs having less recognized pedigrees. Jabber is even more important now that many, if not most, of us are working primarily from our home offices. NVDA works quite well with Jabber on 95% of the calling features; however, it does not give the "STATUS" of the person being called, and it does not work well with Jabber's live chat feature. JAWS handles these features fine, but JAWS is so bloated and so slow that our key application, a document management system, nearly chokes with JAWS running. Once there was a Jabber add-in for NVDA, but it did not help with the above features. Any assistance would be appreciated. There is a volume setting in Youtube. Others may be able to tell you what it is and it may solve the problem.
