Re: having trouble running messages to their correct folders in thunderbird

Rosemarie Chavarria

Hi, Gene,

Here are the steps I take to do this.

I first hit altT for tools. Then I hit F for message filters. I then select the filter I want to run on a message. For instance, I'm on a music list called ourplace. If an ourplace message ends up in the NVDA folder, I hit alt T for tools, F for filters and select the ourplace rule. I tab through the different things until I come to "run selected filter on" and choose the ourplace folder and hit enter. Then I tab to the run now button and hit the space bar on it. I wait a few minutes and go out of it with escape. Last but not least, I hitalt T for tools and arrow down to "run filter on message" and hit enter. Sometimes this works and at other times it doesn't. It's possible that there's something I might be missing. I hope this message makes it more clear about what I'm trying to do.

Hi, everyone,

I follow all the correct things for running filters on messages but
still some of them end up in wrong folders. Why is this happening?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: dropbox needs something done to it

Well you can do it without signing in but I couldn't get direct download to work.
I am not going to pay so others can download from me though.
I usually just process archives and audio links I know for a fact that a lot of my betas and sometimes large files are dropboxed.
If dropbox continues to get worse I am either going to have to switch to google drive or mega which access wise aren't much better or spend cash I really don't have yearly on public ftp or something if its still round so I can get files for people or sendspace pro or something.
I hardly upload stuff for sharing barely 1-10 files at any time and to be honest not manuy, I use dropbox these days for some colaberation projects with folders and a few small file backups.

Hi all.
Dropbox has decided to disable public folders, not a problem for us basic users.
I don't use them anyway.
Sadly they have also disabled web page renders.
That in itself while not ideal is not usually an issue.
However it appears to have broken every other render.
For example the dl=1 links don't work, I had to sign in and save 2 files from a twitter to my dropbox which I then killed again after I was done.
I then tried my own links, same thing they didn't work just said page not found.
I then decided ok lets try the direct method.
I hit in both ie11 and latest firefox, 1, hit the download button.
Nothing, hit the more options menu in firefox selected direct download.
Nothing happened, nothing in my downloads list.
As a platform, I really like dropbox its been my rock for ages and ages.
However I don't want to be forced to have to save all the files I get to my folder or to put it another way I don't want to have to force everyone that gets my files to have to sign in to a dropbox account.
There is probably a way to get things but things are not that accessible.
I have used dropbox since year 0!
But I will have no choice but to clear dropbox and only use it for shares.
True I have mega because I needed to use it for a large file, and true I could get another free cloud solution but really.
I refuse to pay just to have the facility to download a file!
I am a basic user, I don't care about rendering webpages, I just want to be able to play audio files which sadly just error out in both ff and ie and or download them so I can play them in winamp and anything else I have.
I could use google drive but my beef with this is that like dropbox the page for downloads isn't much better.
The way dropbox seems to have gone, I am not sure what I can do, I may signup to dropbox forum and or try to contact them directly but if someone can see different things than I can well look at this here link
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5oqodz6nmmf2hx2/soundrecorder.7z?dl=1
That won't work.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5oqodz6nmmf2hx2/soundrecorder.7z?dl=0
this will, its just the sound recorder from xp, I was able to click the more options menu then direct download, then I was able to click download.
Am I missing an important thing or what.
Can you get the file without saving to dropbox on your side.
If the answer is no, I will probably have to use mega for files or google drive.
I hate the google drive download pages but they work enough for downloads.
I am pritty sure a damn sightling can download the file.

I am not sure if dropbox cares at this point.

Re: where to download

Quentin Christensen

As Jacques shared, the address for development snapshots is: http://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/snapshots/

There are three types of snapshots:

Next: Updated often several times a day, these contain very new code that may or may not work as expected.

Master: Updated slightly less frequently, these contain features which have been tested a bit more and are intended to make it to the next release.

RC: These are release candidates, really only intended for use just before a new stable build.

If you install a particular type of snapshots, NVDA will automatically try to update to the latest snapshot from that branch (ie, if you install a master build, NVDA will try to keep updated with the latest master build) so you don't need to constantly come back and download manually.

Kind regards

Quentin.

I don't care about public folders, direct links that used to work don't am I doing something wrong when trying to click direct download when not signed in or do I need to pay for that.
It never used to be this way, I don't use public folders just shared link and others do as well.

I don't know what web page renders are and public links will not be disabled until sometime in March next year.  If you are willing to use the sharing option, all your public links can be shared but you will have to send people the sharing links.

If the sharing links are generated with ?dl=0, delete the 0 and change it to ?dl=1.

The download will begin when someone follows the link, just as in public links.

I am pritty sure a damn sightling can download the file.

I am not sure if dropbox cares at this point.

dropbox needs something done to it

The way dropbox seems to have gone, I am not sure what I can do, I may signup to dropbox forum and or try to contact them directly but if someone can see different things than I can well
look at this here link
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5oqodz6nmmf2hx2/soundrecorder.7z?dl=1
That won't work.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5oqodz6nmmf2hx2/soundrecorder.7z?dl=0
this will, its just the sound recorder from xp, I was able to click the more options menu then direct download, then I was able to click download.
Am I missing an important thing or what.
Can you get the file without saving to dropbox on your side.
If the answer is no, I will probably have to use mega for files or google drive.
I hate the google drive download pages but they work enough for downloads.
I am pritty sure a damn sightling can download the file.

Hi Jim

was your sound card working before on windows 10? or have you just
upgraded then the sound disappeared?

I had something similar when i upgraded to windows 10 from a windows 8
machine. I could not find any updated drivers for my sound card so
brought a very cheap generic usb sound card. the next time i booted the
pc the sound came back or did i have to get someone to change it to the
new sound cards then it came back.

When they done the anniversary version i now also have sound via the old
sound card but may not be the case for all pcs.

You should if you need one be able to get one very cheap like a couple
of dollars nothing fancy.

At the moment I have a problem where I have no speech, sighted people
have confirmed that the card is not muted and, as the computer is under
warrenty, it will be looked at tomorrow.

That being said, will your program bring back speech when I lose it?
assuming that any problem is sorted first of course.
I am really only interested in getting some sound back if someone mutes
it or reducers the volume to zero. I am not sure if your program will do
this or if it stops the sound from being muted or reduced in the first
place. As you will realise now, the old Quick mix just took a snapshot
of the soundcard and a hot key or desktop icon could be used to restore
the settings?
In simple terms can you explain what happens with your program.

I do appreciate people like you who give of their time to help others,
whatever the outcome for me, have a very happy festive season and all
good luck for the new year.

Best Regards, Jim.

Hi Jim

I wasn't familiar with Quick Mix, but Googled it quickly to see what it
offered on XP.

I wrote a collection of utilities over the last year or so, which I call
Stascom Utility Suite. At this point it will recover sound to a
pre-defined level and unmute the default sound card if it became muted
by an event. You can also define day / night volumes to be switched to
at user defined times. At this point it does not load application
specific profiles, but that might just be something I'll look into for a
future release.

Should you be interested, you can read the user guide and download the
installer from my web page:

that was a brilliant program.
does it take a snapshot of the soundcard, or is it a bit more

Any comments greatly appreciated.

Re: soundcard add on

Jacques <lists4js@...>

Apologies to those not interested in my program or the topic in general.

Jim, what I should've added to the previous message is the following.

By default, at least in the version currently downloadable from my site, the minimum allowed volume level is 20 percent before recovering to the user defined recovery level. Subsequent to that release, someone brought to my attention that he is using earphones at night and finds the minimum of 20 percent to high. What I have done in response is to add the ability to detect when earphones are plugged in and then offer the user the ability to define a minimum output of 5 percent instead. Please note that this currently only exists on the code present on my machine, it hasn't been released to the public. I am working on a few other modules, which I need to run passed my beta testers first before I can put it on my site for download.

The above also means that the user will be able to lower the master volume output to 5 percent with the hot key for decreasing volume output, control+Windows+DownArrow. It will also reflect in the minimum allowed volume for day / night adjustment. This will however only be applied if the user has enabled the relevant option under configuration.

As said, my aim always is to leave the choice to the user. I personally detest programs which force certain approaches on the user, so I attempt to avoid this as far as possible.

Hi Jim

In the configuration window of Stascom there are radio buttons to either enable or disable the sound recovery feature. This effectively means that, if the user chooses to disable this feature, the default audio device can be muted or set lower than the user defined low volume. When disabling this feature, I populate a warning message to the effect that if the feature is disabled, I will not be able to recover sound. However, my aim is to always give the user an option for any feature I build into Stascom, regardless of the feature in question. The same holds true for day / night volume adjustment. If you don't like it, simply disable the feature and I'll honour it in future sessions.

I'm happy to answer any questions you may have, but also check out the user guide, I have run it passed a few people and believe it to be quite clear on what the program offers, or do not offer.

Thanks for your interest in the program.

Hi Jim

My program monitors the default audio device and will unmute it if it
becomes muted in any way. It also monitors for low volume and recovers
it, once again, should it fall below a certain level. Both the minimum
volume, as well as the level it will recover to, is user configurable.
The user do not need to press any hot key for this to happen, it is
automated. As is stated in my user guide, it can only perform these
actions if the hardware is in tact and the correct drivers are
installed, of course.

Bottom line, if your hardware is not faulty and the correct drivers are
installed, Stascom will unmute and recover volume on the default sound
card automatically, no problem.

I'm currently in the process of adding more functionality to the
program. Once I've completed it and it's done its rounds via my beta
testers, I'll post the update. I should also mention that if you have
the version installed which currently is on my web site, it will notify
you of any future release, provided you are connected to the internet,
naturally. The check for an update will happen when the program launches
at startup, but there's also an option for a manual check under the menu
hot key, control+Windows+m.

Thanks for your kind words, a good festive season to you too.
