Re: New to NVDA, questions about Outlook and Excel with NVDA
Rosemarie Chavarria
Hi, Jane,
I haven't worked with exel using NVDA but asfar as opening attachments in outlook, you shift tab to the attachment and hit control right arrow. You'll hear the word "message". Hit the context key and arrow down to penattachment. Hit enter to open it.
Hope this helps.

New to NVDA, questions about Outlook and Excel with NVDA
Jane Carona <jane.e.carona@...>
Hi everyone, I’m new to this list, and so grateful to have found it! I was a very happy WindowEyes user and came to Jaws very unwillingly, and have never liked it. Just started using NVDA today, and it seems a lot like WindowEyes, so I think I’ll be very happy!
But I have two questions: How do I access attachments in Outlook. Typically, when on a message with an attachment, I’d shift tab to the attachment and hit enter on it, but that doesn’t seem to work with NVDA.
My other pressing issue is reading titles with Excel. I live in Excel, so this could be a deal-breaker. With smaller spreadsheets, I’ve gotten the titles to read pretty well, but I have some spreadsheets that have 17,000 or more rows, and NVDA reads the first row of data sometimes as column titles. Is there a limit on the size spreadsheet NVDA can comfortably handle?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Tony!

Very good your add-ons, it's a great job. I have a couple of suggestions and some issues. The first thing is if you could move the settings of your add-ons to NVDA's built-in preferences, this would allow you to configure profiles. It happened to me that the enhanced word navigation feature doesn't work well in UIA controls, for example in the Address Bar of Microsoft Edge, in Onenote, Quick Notes, etc. What happens is that when you press ctrl and arrows, select that text and NVDA says selected. However, I like the way it works with VS Code, so I have to be activating and deactivating that function. With indent nav in apps like the ones I mentioned, quick notes or onenote, so does the same, NVDA says selected. Both add-ons work, but it's tedious that NVDA verbalize that in these cases. Thank you very much! Best regards 2020-05-30 21:29 GMT-04:00, Larry Wang <larry.wang.801@gmail.com>:

The NVDA Chat Subgroup - Please Consider Joining (Announcement Only)
Hello All,
The NVDA Group itself has over 1300 members, and over my years here I have seen how often many of you want to reach out and assist others with non-NVDA related questions. This morning's Audacity topic is an example of that, and of people doing the right thing on it.. But I know a lot of you would like to actually answer those questions rather than just refer someone out elsewhere. The NVDA Chat Subgroup is a venue for doing just that sort of thing. We have a brand new member, both here and there, who has just posted a laundry list of questions regarding multiple other pieces of software that I am sure others could answer, and that some of you might like to answer. If you fit into that latter category, please consider joining the NVDA Chat Subgroup. At the moment, traffic is not high in general, and most topics, though not all, are focused on technical questions regarding other programs or services. If you want to minimize your traffic from the Chat Subgroup, then consider subscribing then sending a follow-on message to get the group digest or summary, or follow the instructions here, Controlling the Messages You Receive via E-Mail from Groups.io, regarding setting up topic preview for yourself on the Chat Subgroup. No matter what, we are here to help one another, and if a question is off-topic, referring the questioner to lists, forums, or other reference material that addresses their needs is always something that should be done. Not only is it kind, it places "crumbs" for any future archive searcher to find, and it helps to keep the group as a whole much more on-topic than it would be if attempts are made to address off-topic questions in detail. Also, questions about how to use Groups.io itself may arise occasionally. I may direct those to the Chat Subgroup if they can't be answered in a "one and done" response, but if they can it's perfectly appropriate to assist anyone in using the actual mechanism of communication for this group. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. Hi Brian and Sarah,

I would like to be able to make/answer a Hangouts video call and and also reply to conversations in my contacts. Currently, I am attempting to do this only with a single participant. When I open the Hangouts app using Chrome, I am able to see that I am logged in to my Google account but unable to click the Allow Camera button and answer a video call. In the same way, I am not able to reply or send a message to a particular contact. I tried the above using the Firefox browser as well but with no success. By the way, I have not received a direct link to join a meeting or a video call. Another issue I am facing with Google Chrome is that when I open a page or switch pages, I am unable to go back to the previous page using the Alt and the left arrow keys. I hope I have provided some clarity about the issues I am encountering to seek more guidance. With thanks and regards, Sultana

Hey Brian,
Apologies for violating any protocols. Thanks for the heads
up, and I'm glad I was able to help. I was looking at it from an
NVDA user helping a fellow NVDA user's point of view. Since the
message stated that she was using NVDA as her primary screen
reader I thought that I could answer the question without
violating any list protocols. Overall, I'll chalk it up as a
win.

The only wrong question about NVDA is the one that you fail to ask here.Tony, you are absolutely correct, but Hettie very wisely recognized that the question she is asking is not really about NVDA at all, but about Audacity. I truly appreciate that she's leading by example with regard to this. As the group description states: NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) is screen reader software. The central purpose of this group is discussing how to use NVDA, either configuring NVDA's settings or familiarizing oneself with its modes and commands. Discussions about which programs are accessible using NVDA, NVDA add-ons, NVDA tutorials and documentation, and configuring synthesizers or Braille displays for use with NVDA are also permitted. If the question were about NVDA or an NVDA add-on then it's on-topic. If it's a question about how to use Audacity, where NVDA just so happens to be the screen reader you're using, it's not. This is a distinction that needs to be made, by each and every member. Again, I commend Hettie for being sensitive to this, and I commend you and others who've already done so for directing her to resources where those sorts of detailed questions can be asked and answered by those who've, "been there, done that, got the T-shirt." -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. Re: NVDA and Audacity recordings
Hettie,
Hello and welcome to the NVDA Group. Specific questions on how to use Audacity itself are not on-topic for the main NVDA Group. I will give the e-mail addresses for our Chat Subgroup, where they are appropriate, in a few moments. I wanted to make sure you had membership established in the NVDA Group since you must have that before you can join the Chat Subgroup. I know we have (or have had, the group always has some flux) members who are active Audacity users. There also appears to be an unofficial NVDA add-on for Audacity (https://github.com/paulber007/AudacityNVDAAddon) but it does not appear to be under active support and would not be compatible with the current version of NVDA. I thought there was a group on Groups.io for blind users of Audacity, but I can't find it. I'm almost certain one exists, so I'll allow someone else to point you in its direction. Should you wish to ask specific questions about using Audacity itself. That should be done on our Chat Subgroup. Here is the vital information for that: To join: chat+subscribe@nvda.groups.io
To unsubscribe: chat+unsubscribe@nvda.groups.io
To receive a message containing the group description, and a list of these commands: chat+help@nvda.groups.io
