pc keyboard addon

mike mcglashon

Okay,

I downloaded the addon updater,

It worked;

It updated the braille pc keyboard addon okay but,

After opening notepad and testing it I found something weird;

I typed the following sentence in notepad;

“I want to see if this braille pc keyboard works as intended”.

Whenever I got to the word “intended”

It put a “p” in front of the word, and a “?” after it;

Then I took the braille pc keyboard off,

And arrowed around,

Then the word “intended” disappeared altogether.

Is there some sort of bug that I should know about?

Please advise as you like.

Re: addons becoming incompatible after beta2 installed

Hi,

There are two ways to find out if you have Add-on Updater add-on installed:

  1. Open NVDA menu, Tools, and see if “Check for add-on updates” item is showing in Tools menu. If not, then either Add-on Updater is installed but disabled or you don’t have it.
  2. Open Add-ons Manager and see if “Add-on Updater” is listed in there.

To install Add-on Updater, go to community add-ons website (https://addons.nvda-project.org), select “Add-on Updater”, then choose “stable version” link to download the latest version of this add-on. After installing Add-on Updater, you may get a notification telling you that add-on updates are available.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi,

Do you have Add-on Updater installed? I advise installing it as most add-ons in your list have received updates. There are exceptions such as DictationBridge, and if you do need that add-on, I advise searching for DicationBridge 1.1 beta (although I wrote that beta, I’m no longer maintaining DictationBridge in order to reduce my workload).

Cheers,

Hi Mike,

Which add-ons are seen as incompatible with NVDA? To find out, open Add-ons Manager (NvDA menu/Tools/Manage add-ons), then select “view incompatible add-ons” and scroll through the list. The latest backwards incompatible version of NVDA is 2019.3 (due to Python 3 transition), and 2020.4 beta is not a compatibility breaking release, so the list of incompatible add-ons should not be that big.

Re: Looking for newest vocalizer driver

darkmad88@...

Hello!
Yes, i use russian+english language pair, so they have different character sets, latin and cyrillic.For example, you can try to read any russian site, 3dnews.ru, yandex.ru and so on. Or you can  set some of russian voices as default, correctly configure auto lang switching, and then type some english text in notepad. Then, if you will move between strings of entered text using arrows, NVDA will use english voice, previously selected for english language in auto lang switching configuration dialog, but if you'll use "say all", it will read this text with russian default voice. I also need to say, that in older versions of driver(3.0.x), there was no same issue and auto lang switching works fine everywhere, including "Say all".
I have very beginner's skills in programming, but tried to investigate what happens when i use "Say all". I found patchedSpeak function in _init.py file, located in Vocalizer driver folder and added "tones.beep(100, 100)" in it, and also "import tones" at the beginning of this file. I found that in version 3.1.2 there is no call to this function when using "Say all" (no beep occurs), and in version 3.0.8, when i use "say all", a beep occurs indicating that function patchedSpeak is called. Maybe, this information will be useful for you.

I was addressing you. I should have used your name to avoid possible confusion.

I have a possible work around. Try using the NVDA command that reads from the review cursor position to the end of the text. I have no idea if that will work around the problem but you never know. If you are using the desktop layout, its numpad plus, the second long key from the bottom on the right of the numpad.

I don't know the laptop command.

Hello!

Please, note that our automatic language switching system only works between languages belonging to different groups of characters used, by instance from hebrew to english, english to chinese and so on...

To other changes, by instance from english to portuguese, it relies on the NVDA automatic language switcing method, and this one relies in the app information... Some apps that inform the screen reader to change language are Word, browsers, Acrobate and some others...

Those apps only can request a language change if the text author have correctly marked that...

If you can send us some examples where the automatic language switching does not work...

Hi Quentin and others

Many thanks for including the Afrikaans grade 2 table. I really appreciate it.

Kind regards

Christo

Hi everyone,

NVDA 2020.4 Beta2 is now available for download & testing. Since Beta1 we added Afrikaans Grade 2 braille, fixed reporting incorrect information when copying fails, QWERTY input with Papenmeier braille displays & an error affecting some add-ons. Re: addons becoming incompatible after beta2 installed

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi guys:

Installed nvda beta2 this morning;

When I did,

Many of my addons became incompatible, and,

I had to check a box claiming I understand this before installation;

Hence,

My question is,

How and where do I get the newer versions of the addons allegedly incompatible?

And,

Am I simply screwed if the author of the addon hasn’t updated it to the newest version of nvda?

Please advise as you like.

Re: a little two tone noise

If you mean the descending tritone piano, (C F-sharp) sound, I believe that plays when NVDA has encountered an error. I don't think you have to do anything.

Is it something useful (I know that is a subjective term);

I guess I’m asking if the noise is supposedly alerting me to something?

Re: a little two tone noise

Hi,

If you are using beta or an alpha snapshot, the two piano tones will let you know something has occurred that may warrant your attention, mostly dealing with errors.

Cheers,

Joseph
