Other than that depending on whether its modified systems files and registry or not, you might try revo uninstaller, the uninstaller in windows or similar ways. Be careful with any program if forcing an uninstall though as if it has modified system files and the registry, windows itself could be broken if you do not use the uninstaller which will replace the old registry values and files, hopefully.

for users of the hims braille displays only!

P. Otter

hello all,

here you can download the driver for the hims braille sense/braille edge/smartbeetle.

if you want to try it, do as follows:

1 go to the menu of nvda

2 go to options

3 go to braille.

4 set the braille to no braille.

5 go to drive c:

6 go to program files or 64 bit program files/x86

there to nvda

open this

enter braille display drivers and go to hims.

there you find a file called HansoneConnect.dll

yo u have to rename it for example:

HansoneConnect.txt it does not matter

now copy the new downloaded file there.

now restart nvda and you're glad with your properly working braille display.

it is only for above mentioned displays!!!!

this is the download link:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9sGXgJHSn61Wlk4S2FmeHFOcVE/view?usp=sharing

The message in Firefox is the usual failed to load or page not found retry. I suspect modern browsers are timing out too early for the delay in getting some pages. Nvaccess is not unique in this problem, several retries normall gets it to work.
Latency in the system somewhere. I had thought I'd fixed it by changing form my isps name servver to another, but its back again in any case, even on downloads inside filehippo sometimes.

Hi Felix,

Can you advise whether you experienced the same thing with earlier versions
of NVDA or whether this is new in the RC build?

I just tried and what seems to happen is I can tab around, but as soon as I
press H or 1 or other keys, NVDA stops reading, and then shortly after, the
page reloads. I can repeat that a couple of times before Edge gives me a
message saying: "
This page is having a problem loading

We tried to load this page for you a few times, but there is still a
problem with this site. We know you have better things to do than to watch
this page reload over and over again so try coming back to this page later."

That seems to behave exactly the same way using NVDA 2017.1 and NVDA
2017.2rc1

I see you've reported it and Jamie is on to reporting it to Microsoft:

no, i had replaced the driver after that all was working properly.

before i've tryed but that was the same old problem, it was not possible to go back with the left scrol key.

i was hopeful there was a better driver in this new version but there was'nt.

so i have deleted the original version of HansoneConnect.dll and replaced it with my version.

here it is.

hello, there is a better version for the hims braille displays like the smartbeetle.

the version that is delivered with nvda there are problems in it.

when you press scroll down, the display will go to the right, but when i press theleft scrol up, nothing happens.

this is one of the examples i want to mention.

per haps it is possible that the better driver will be implemented in the new version of nvda.

i'll send here the new driver that works nice.

now, every time i update nvda i have to replace the file
HansoneConnect.dll

if you want, i can send you the file.

I think you're thinking about something different here. This is for using Microsoft word as the program for inserting the digital signature rather than scanning it into a document. Although that is also a very plausible way to get the same job done.

I don't know what the program is, but one assumes that the vendors might be the best folk to ask.

People are not like that though. I encounter them every day. They just won't be bothered. I guess the answer really is that each person has to make a decision. I think saying get over it to an elderly person who has enough aggro in their lives already is at best unhelpful at worst, discriminatory. Tact is the thing of course, and sometimes one has to go in and do it for them, as the world and changes in it is just far too much for many people I find.
I have made a conscious decision I do not need Twitface and their ilk in my life. I'm sure there are positives to these systems, but one has to weigh up the pros and cons for you, and so it is with the mail lists.
You say it does not work, but I have found it can if one chooses the right parameters in the first place.
However I'm not going to fill this list up with this argument, I know enough about people to realise there are opinions about things from some of us which will never change, so why bother?

Tools such as the ones I posted about have come into existence because it is impossible, not to mention impractical, to set up mailing lists that have some laser focused topic and have them thrive yet still allow those who want to filter out what they consider "junk" to do it easily.

The tools are there. You have to decide whether you want to use them or not. You will never distill any e-mailing list down to only what you think belongs on it unless you, for any you, are its one and only member.

As to whether or not someone is happy using a web interface for one-time configuration at this point in time, my only response is: Get over it. It's time to configure yourself to the world, as the world is not going to configure itself to you.

Re: there is a better driver for the hims smartbeetle

Hi,
I think it'd be better to send the driver not to me but to the development list for further analysis. If it's the driver NV Access is thinking of, then I have nothing else to say at this time (sorry).
Cheers,
Joseph

no, i had replaced the driver after that all was working properly.

before i've tryed but that was the same old problem, it was not possible to go back with the left scrol key.

i was hopeful there was a better driver in this new version but there was'nt.

so i have deleted the original version of HansoneConnect.dll and replaced it with my version.

here it is.

hello, there is a better version for the hims braille displays like the smartbeetle.

the version that is delivered with nvda there are problems in it.

when you press scroll down, the display will go to the right, but when i press theleft scrol up, nothing happens.

this is one of the examples i want to mention.

per haps it is possible that the better driver will be implemented in the new version of nvda.

i'll send here the new driver that works nice.

now, every time i update nvda i have to replace the file
HansoneConnect.dll

if you want, i can send you the file.

cheers

Re: Has NVDA 2017.2 RC1 been made available?

Quentin Christensen

I sent this reply to the user directly, but it is worth sharing with the list (the question was whether 2017.2 final is out):

In short, probably in a week or so.

NVDA 2017.2rc1 is currently out.  If we don't find any major bugs in this build, then the final NVDA 2017.2 should be out in the next week or so and will be identical to the current RC.  If someone does find a major bug, then we'll endeavour to fix and release RC2 which we'll make available for a week or so for people to test and see if it's fixed that bug and not added too many more in before we finalise 2017.2.

In an earlier In-Process back when we were in RC for NVDA 2017.1, I wrote a little on the development cycle and how we get to the point of releasing a new build which may be of interest: https://www.nvaccess.org/post/in-process-16th-feb-2017/

Kind regards

Quentin.

OK.  I'm just used to seeing an RC1 (and, on rare occasions, an RC2) come out prior to the main release and that post made me think I might have missed it when I was on vacation.

Re: NVDA 2017 error

Quentin Christensen

Just a little follow up from me - instead of completely deleting NVDA and reinstalling, you should be able to press NVDA+CONTROL+R three times quickly to restore NVDA to factory settings (and the eSpeak NG voice, which at least won't give errors).

As others noted, it's almost certainly the case that the issue is caused by TrueVoice being licensed to Zoomtext or another program which does not allow it to be used outside that environment.  It's a little annoying when programs install a synthesizer as a standard SAPI 4 or 5 etc synthesizer, but then don't allow it to be used by any other program that can use a standard SAPI 4 or 5 synth.  Unfortunately, there isn't much we can do to detect this before the synth is activated and causing problems.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Uninstalling NVDA won't fix this, because it doesn't delete the user
configuration.
The easiest way to fix this is:
1. Press Windows+r to bring up the Run dialog.
2. Type: %appdata%\nvda
3. Press enter.
4. Find nvda.ini and delete it.

This won't remove your addons, just the configuration file which tells NVDA
which synthesizer is currently active.

Re: NVDA 2017.2 RC1 and Edge, a navigation problem

Quentin Christensen

Hi Felix,

Can you advise whether you experienced the same thing with earlier versions of NVDA or whether this is new in the RC build?

I just tried and what seems to happen is I can tab around, but as soon as I press H or 1 or other keys, NVDA stops reading, and then shortly after, the page reloads.  I can repeat that a couple of times before Edge gives me a message saying: "

This page is having a problem loading

We tried to load this page for you a few times, but there is still a problem with this site. We know you have better things to do than to watch this page reload over and over again so try coming back to this page later."

That seems to behave exactly the same way using NVDA 2017.1 and NVDA 2017.2rc1

I see you've reported it and Jamie is on to reporting it to Microsoft: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/7206

Regards

Quentin.

With Edge I go to www.heise.de. I know from Firefox and Chrome experience that there are lots of headings, but when I then press h nothing happens, and afterwards navigation with the arrow keys stops working. I am reluctant to assume a bug as I assume heading navigation has been tested extensively for this RC. Any ideas what might be going on?
