Additional references on e-mail feedback looping and issues that have occurred on/for groups.io members that demonstrates that it is becoming more and more critical that, among other things, one does not mark messages as spam that really aren't spam. Deleting them does not cause problems nor do the various muting techniques that groups providers have for making messages from a given topic stop.

People need to be more aware of this generally since it's an embodiment of the law of unintended consequences coming from seemingly innocuous actions that one might believe is only having an affect on one's own computer.

In-Process for 4th April is out

Hi everyone,

Slightly delayed this time around, but the latest In-Process post is now up and ready for reading!

This week, we've got the inside scoop on unit testing, the release of the NVDA Certified Expert accreditation exam, and in case you missed it, a half hour interview the whole team did with JJ of Blind Bargains while we were at CSUN.

Find it here: https://www.nvaccess.org/post/in-process-4th-april-2017/

I was thinking of ProWritingAid as they have a screen reader friendly version of their editor here: https://prowritingaid.com/en/Analysis/Editor?screenReaderFriendly=true

It takes a little getting used to and isn't quite as quick or easy as using Notepad for instance.

In any case, as you say, it doesn't check things like missing quotes or parenthesis.

Regards

Quentin.

Does this work just in Word, or is it for any text editor, say Jarte etc?
It sounds like a candidate for an add on to me. I often get moaned at by the
sighted when making up quick things to read on the talking newspaper as one does
miss weird tabs, extra punctuation and brackets in odd places when you are doing
a quick sub of a longer document and altering it to make sense as a spoken
document, like taking out as you can see and appears below etc.

Hi Domingos,

You have an excellent point there. I am pasting the text about the text
analyzer
from the freedomscientific website.
Source:
http://doccenter.freedomscientific.com/doccenter/doccenter/rs25c51746a0cc/2012-0
6-20_textformatting/02_textformatting.htm
Text Analyzer
When editing a document using speech only, inconsistencies such as
unmatched
parentheses, unintentional format changes, extra whitespace, and stray or
unspaced punctuation can often be missed. The Text Analyzer feature is a
tool
that notifies you of these errors in your document by using a spoken
message or
WAV file. You can configure JAWS to announce discrepancies by count, by
description, or by sound while proofreading the document by line,
sentence,
paragraph, or Say All command. Braille users will benefit from this since
a
sound can be emitted before the user has time to read the entire line
looking
for errors.
Text Analyzer Modes
The Text Analyzer has the following four modes which you can get to by
pressing
INSERT+V. Type the word "text analyzer" in the search edit box.
. Indicate with sound - JAWS will play an audible sound when the cursor
moves to
a line where an inconsistency is found. This works when scrolling up and
down
through text or when using SayAll mode.
. Speak count - JAWS will speak the number of inconsistencies found on
each
line.
. Describe inconsistencies - JAWS will announce the type and location of
any
inconsistencies found on each line of the document. This is the most
descriptive
of the different Text Analyzer modes.
. Off - Text Analyzer is off and no inconsistency information will be
spoken.
NOTE: You can also press ALT+WINDOWS KEY+I at any time to have Text
Analyzer
move the cursor to the next inconsistency. This can be done even when Text
Analyzer is turned off, and is an easy to quickly find potential errors in
your
document.

I have no idea about cyberfox. Maybe google it along with words such as
screenreader accessibility to see if anyone has talked about it. I have no
interest in doing so as the regular Firefox works well enough for me for

For the sighted, Palemoon and Waterfox are alternatives to Firefox, similar
code, but with many features not used by the masses removed. While it does
speed things up for many users, the removing of accessibility features makes
it so we can't use them at all.

the books in question, so I am wondering if has something to do with the
automatic reading of content by Kindle's in-built text-to-speech.

I am using latest stable NVDA and Kindle for PC v. 1.20.1

Thank you

There are all sorts of automated processes that can result in a message being determined to be spam, and if enough people manually mark messages from a given domain as spam for an e-mail provider that has a spam filtering system that learns from that, and most do, all sorts of problems can arise.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with whether one is using POP or IMAP access.

No It also depends on the black listing of servers on the internet. If a lot of botted machines sends stuff out or sends to some addresses actions are taken to stop it. Often this means modifying pop3 machines to ignore one or two attempts to send to them then allowing one in to stop spam getting in that does not check the flags when it sends to multiple addresses Grey listing.

You can't know the cause of every problem. This isn't a user controled problem.

I think my question was the why not the how to fix it. One would like to be
told exactly what triggered it in the first place.

Brian, I have gotten it a couple of times. Both times, I clicked the
link.

The message below is arriving here about twice a week interestingly around

expect others to get this message and lose emails from this list.

Hello,

Recently, emails sent to you have bounced back to us. This can be for many
reasons, including:

- We have an incorrect email address for you.
- Your account was or is full.
- Other temporary delivery issues.

We have suspended email delivery to you. This means you will no longer
receive messages from the groups you are subscribed to, including:

- NVDACon-announce
- nvda

You must take action to restore your account, or we will unsubscribe you
from all of the groups you are a member of.

To unbounce your account, go to the following link:

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Clear as mud. as far as I am aware message rules in pop 3 only affect the servver insofar as if you say delete from server or leave on server it does these things, ie does not mark as spam. that occurs only on web mail and possibly google designed imap systems. Another reason to steer cleer of web based email readers as you cannot tell what its doing out of your site.

One thing that can cause this problem is if a user marks any message received from Groups.io as spam.

There now exists a requirement on the part of many e-mail service providers, utilizing a feedback loop to Groups.io, that if a message is marked as spam that Groups.io must cease sending messages to the address from which the spam marking originated. This is wreaking havoc particularly since the marking as spam is accidental.

If you are receiving individual messages as your subscription and don't want to get any more messages for a specific topic, do not mark it as spam, use the "Mute this Topic" link at the bottom of the message and no more messages from that specific topic will be sent to you.

It is also possible to arrange, via the Groups.io web interface, to have the first message from every topic sent to you but, if you do not choose to follow that topic using the link that's provided at the end of the message, no more messages from that topic will be sent (unless you were to choose to follow it later, either via activating the follow link in the first message that you didn't delete from your inbox or going in to the web interface to do so).

Re: what's the e mail address to subscribe this group?

I just posted what follows to the wrong topic, and have deleted that entry from the archive even though most will receive it under the wrong topic, too.

This is the response from Mark Fletcher, founder of Groups.io and still their primary technical support:

Hi Brian,

I don't think that's a message from us. If he's still having problems, please have him forward one of the emails to support and I'll take a look.

Thanks,
Mark

Windows 10 App Essentials and Resource Monitor version 17.04 released

Hi everyone,

Two add-ons received updates today: Windows 10 App Essentials and Resource Monitor, both updated to version 17.04:

Resource Monitor will now recognize Windows 10 build 15063 as Version 1703, and localization updates were applied on Windows 10 App Essentials.

Cheers,

Joseph

Yes.  Mr. Bado explained, after having been asked for clarification, "I'm trying to completely change my e mail adress for this list."  He'd have to resubscribe using his new address to do that.

I haven't gotten anything other than the automated "ticket open" message for my query last night.
