Marisane - it might be worth posting your question as a new topic, as people may not see it in here.

Gary, you can certainly set up as many profiles as you like, use one across several programs etc.  I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean about say all - do you mean you don't want Internet Explorer to automatically read pages when they load?  You can set that up although that's in Browse mode settings - NVDA+control+b - "Automatic say all on page load".

Regards

Quentin.

Look's like Gary found what he needed, but further to your keys there John (and what you've written will work perfectly), you can also press:

NVDA+control+b to jump directly to the dialog.  That works for a number of other NVDA dialogs (not all, but a few), eg NVDA+control+v for voice settings, NVDA+control+k for keyboard settings, NVDA+control+d for document formatting settings etc.

A while back I encountered a file where from what I could tell some special other language parts had been imported as graphics into lines of the text. The result of reading this file either left gaps in the spoken text where these were or if read in some of the converters to text, gobbledegook which presumably was either the graphic itself or its name.
I don't think there has ever been a true answer to the many ways people make their pdfs.

Its like this strange problem with bbc I player where the yes and no buttons whether you have a tv licence can be accesed. In firefox they apear to be overlaid on the page and vansh if you try to get to them, in IE they are in the page and can be clicked just like buttons and links anywhere else. Arlene,

I am using Windows 10 at the moment, but I've had brief periods of "Not Responding" with Firefox and other programs at least since Windows 7. I don't know whether screen readers catch/announce this state change in the window frame when it occurs or not or whether it might be an accident of switching focus to something else and back again that might cause the "Not Responding," which is enclosed in parentheses, to read.

I can't say whether this is the cause of the problem, but I do notice that the very first character of the HTML source code should be a less-than symbol and is in fact a lower-case f.

Whether that's sufficient to cause Firefox 49.01 to be unhappy about the entire page, I don't know, but it would be worth fixing anyway.

Re: Missing spaces between words in PDF document

Hi

I agree with both Brian and
Cearbhall, because every story has 2 sides.

Adobe should make an effort from their side to process space and line break characters more effectively, because even sighted people experience similar problems regarding PDF documents at times.

However, Microsoft should also make an effort from their side to make sure that spaces and line breaks are standardised and in line with those used by other software.

Heaven, Jacob, et al,

I had a long chat session with the Adobe help team yesterday.

It seems that the problem arises when a document created in some other editor is saved as PDF this problem can arise resulting in spaces not appearing to be standard ones under ISO (or ASCII 32).

With the help of the Adobe support team, I used “adobe Acrobat Pro DC” to reprocess the offending document by printing it “as Adobe” and saving the output document to the hard disk rather than actually printing it. The spaces were all present and no misspellings occurred.

The help team assured me that this problem arises from outside editors and not from within Adobe. Therefore, Adobe can do nothing about it.

Perhaps we could ask Microsoft and other manufacturers of editing programs to examine their processes for creating PDF files and see how this might arise.

The authors of my problem document used Microsoft PowerPoint to create the document and then saved it as .PDF. That suggests that Microsoft have to take this up and sort it out, doesn’t it?

All the best,

Subject: Re: [nvda] Missing spaces between words in PDF document

Sheri,

Actually, I ran this PDF document through Abbyyy Finereader and the OCR cured the spacing problem! So, I will have to ask the authors if this document was originally run through OCR to generate the PDF that was sent to me.

The OCR caused another problem that is not in the original: There are tables that contain multiple lines of text within each cell. Abbyyy Finereader put all of the text lines onto separate rows and this makes it difficult to make sense of the tables.

For what it’s worth, I usually find this when the text in a document has come through an OCR process.

Hi,

Does anyone know what causes some PDF documents to have words that are not separated by a space?

For example: “TheCitizensBoard issuesdocumentsabout organisingevents”

This line of text should clearly have a space between the words.

I am using Adobe Acrobat Reader under Windows 10 and NVDA 2016.3.

This is not new and I often find it. Can anyone explain why it happens or at least what I can do to advise authors on how to avoid sending out these badly structured documents?

Hi there

May I ask for help with outlook.com webmail?

I think that the guys has recently changed the view.

It seems to be more java based.

I fail to navigate this time.

Does anyone of you know how to use outlook.com webmail?

I had sometimes before heard of the access bridge that one can install
to be able to successfully navigate any java based interface.

Please help, my email messages are difficult to navigate and read.

Your help is appreciated in advance.

With respect

I doubt this will help but In browse mode settings in NVDA, see if the
setting that tells NVDA to read page automatically when page loads is
checked. It is by default but if it isn't checked, checking it may
solve the problem.

When I open an e-mail message, even though my messages are read
automatically, I manually issue the read to end command before or at
the
moment reading starts. I find this more efficient in starting reading
faster and avoiding material I don't want read. I have already heard
the subject line. If I tell the message to be read manually, this
material is not spoken again and the message body starts to be read.
You may have to experiment to see how long to wait before issuing the
command after opening a message.

There are times when getting in the habit of manually issuing a command
is superior to having something done automatically unless you know how
to script a screen-reader to do exactly what you want it to do.
Issuing
such a command will become automatic over time.

Sorry, but Windows Live Mail already does that...
And, a profil is only to set different configurations to an app or
action...

What you want to achieve, if it is not already done, will need an
appmodule...
