Vocalizer expressive voice Malcolm

Chris Shook <chris0309@...>

Hi,
This is for JAWS and NVDA users.
The british voice Malcolm will not say the word 'gonna' or any text on the same line as that word.
This is how to fix that issue.
1. Go to your speach dictionary. Click on voice dictionary while using the voice Malcolm.
2. Type 'gonna' in the word field.
3. Type 'GONAA' in the replacement field. Make sure it's all lower case.
4. Click Okay.

For JAWS.
1. Click on the JAWS dictionary.
2. Select vocalizer expressive.
3. Type 'gonna' in the word field.
4. Type 'GONAA' in the replacement field. Make sure it's all lower case.
5. Click okay.
Note: you can do the same thing with the user dictionary in CodeFactory's version of Vocalizer expressive.
I hope this helps someone.
Chris

You could hit insert B to give you the information. That's what I do when I'm downloading files with IE 11.

Re: using find to locate text on a webpage with NVDA 17.1

Do you mean using h to move through results?  NVDA has the same kind of input help that JAWS does.  NVDA and 1 on the main keyboard toggles it on and off.  While in the browser, you can check all the quick navigation keys by typing any key you want and seeing what it says.  the movement commands, h for heading, n for skip block, of links, b for button, etc. are almost all the same in JAWS and NVEDA.

Yes, the find was causing me problems.

However, I do have one more question now you asked.

When I am using google, when moving to the search edit field I press the letter f as with other screenreading programs.

Then when reaching “search landmark combo box editable” I hit enter, a short click signaling the edit field is opened.

Then I enter text and hit enter.

Next I press escape and a short beep is heard.  Pressing H will move me through the search results as should happen.  Is that the recommended way with NVDA?

It's control NVDA key f.  If you are using the default desktop layout, insert is the only active NVDA key.  Do you know other commands students should know such as read current line and other screen review commands?

Subject: [nvda] using find to locate text on a webpage with NVDA 17.1

Greeting NVDA wizards,

I am trying to write directions for some students on how to search a webpage for text.

I am using AFB.org site. I wish them to locate “access” that will land the cursor on “Access World Registered.” This is a magazine published by AFB which I am sure all of you have heard of.

However, When trying control-f, typing in the search and hitting enter. The cursor does not move anywhere.

I had heard this was going to be fixed in Version 17.1. Does anyone have a solution or work around?

Thanks in advance.

Have a try at Instantbird.  I like that you can have messages from different senders as tabs or as separate windows.  I used to use it a while ago, works with msn protocol as well as others.

On 4/18/2017 11:14 AM, Gary wrote:

Hello,

My workplace uses Jabber extensively to chat internally.  I have been using Thunderbird's built-in chat, but find that it occasionally scrambles my outgoing messages, which is very strange, annoying, and has to be with T-Bird specifically because I don't have this issue with any other software.  For example, the line:

"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog"

Might be changed to:

"ver the lazy dogThe quick brown fox jumps o"

Obviously, this happens while I'm typing, but I have no way to know this.  So, I guess this is a two part question:

1. Has anyone experienced this behavior and knows of a solution?

2. More importantly: does anyone know of a chat program, besides Thunderbird and Trillian, that works well with NVDA?  I've tried mIRC and Pidgin, but both have issues with NVDA.

Thanks!

Re: Has anyone seen this mysterious windows problem?

John Hedges

I have seen some busy issues on oler preview vuilds, which made apps not run. I have also seen some times when NVDA stops speaking for a while recently on new preview buils 15170. This is most often associated with hangs in Edge and Mail then stops working until a NBDA restart or system restart. There was a time when the speech stopped working due to some corruption in the SAPI subsystem. I switched to eSpeak for a short time, and back to Microsoft.

After some use, particualy if you have multiple folders and software open
and are alt tabbing around them, you suddenly find windows menus do not
work, well, some do but say the following certainly don't
 Context menus
Shut down menu
nvda menu, which is like a context I guess, and some other parts of
windows.
Now I cannot it seems invoke  narrator to get to see if the menus are there
or not. I've seen this mostly in windows 7, but occasionally in 10 before my
machine went bang. A complete windows restart puts things right but nvda
restarts have no effect.
I've tried shutting and opening again explorer, with no effect as the  task
manager does still operate.
