Re: NVDA and LibreOfice annoyances - Two, three or many places?

Nasrin,

As a matter of policy I never use anything but the latest versions of open source or free software such as LibreOffice, so I really can't advise regarding what earlier versions are like.   I personally would not use an earlier version unless the latest has somehow become broken from an accessibility standpoint, and that's not particularly likely.

Has anyone seen this mysterious windows problem?

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

After some use, particualy if you have multiple folders and software open and are alt tabbing around them, you suddenly find windows menus do not work, well, some do but say the following certainly don't
Context menus
Shut down menu
nvda menu, which is like a context I guess, and some other parts of windows.
Now I cannot it seems invoke narrator to get to see if the menus are there or not. I've seen this mostly in windows 7, but occasionally in 10 before my machine went bang. A complete windows restart puts things right but nvda restarts have no effect.
I've tried shutting and opening again explorer, with no effect as the task manager does still operate.

I am still trying to wrap my head around what, other than corruption in the OS of some kind, could make any standard Windows WinKey plus style command fail to work. I have never seen the WinKey remapped.

This is not caused by overwrite.  In the example, nothing is deleted.  Characters are out of place.

Hi Gary,

I am wondering if perhaps the insert key is being set to overwrite instead of inserting characters.  I used to see this in Word myself, and a press of the insert key disabled this from happening.  Apparently in Word, you can get into overwrite mode where when you type if is actually overwriting text   instead of inserting it.

As for chat programs, I wonder how Miranda would work with NVDA?  I haven’t tried it myself.  Maybe try Instantbird as well?

Hello,

My workplace uses Jabber extensively to chat internally.  I have been using Thunderbird's built-in chat, but find that it occasionally scrambles my outgoing messages, which is very strange, annoying, and has to be with T-Bird specifically because I don't have this issue with any other software.  For example, the line:

"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog"

Might be changed to:

"ver the lazy dogThe quick brown fox jumps o"

Obviously, this happens while I'm typing, but I have no way to know this.  So, I guess this is a two part question:

1. Has anyone experienced this behavior and knows of a solution?

2. More importantly: does anyone know of a chat program, besides Thunderbird and Trillian, that works well with NVDA?  I've tried mIRC and Pidgin, but both have issues with NVDA.

Thanks!

Gary

Hello!

Karen is part of voices available in our product.
In the variants Compact, Standard and Premium.
They are available in:

I shouldn't say this, but it seems that Karen compact is not available to Jaws.

In at least one of these programs, possibly both, some programs seem to work much better than others in  the suite, according to comments I've seen.  The word processor may work much better than one or more other programs do.

I am sorry, but OpenOffice is even worse than LibreOffice.

It appears that the problems are related to the complexity of the
documents. For example, a LibreOffice Calc file with many spreadsheets,
fixed lines, formulas related to cells in other spreadsheets cause NVDA
to stop working altogether, but only with LibreOffice. ALT TAB to other
programs and it is working. Go back to LibreOffice and it is muted.

Re: NVDA and LibreOfice annoyances - Two, three or many places?

brian,
if you only need doc format you can use openoffice,
but if you need also saving as docx and send it for others
and edit the docx format without need conversion in to doc, you need
only libreoffice!
i read somewhere that docx and docm are about documents like doc extension!
but docx includes documents without macro and docm means the document
which it contains macro.
i am not sure is it completely true or not,
because i read thats possible to add macro in to docx too.
walmir,
openoffice for me in my system hangs, nvda stopps working and i need
to end task of nvda in the taskManager to work again,
but i dont have this problem using libreoffice.
thanks everyone and God bless you all.

The only advantage you have in changing is if you urgently need some of the new languages...

Hi all,

Since Vocalizer from Tiflotecnia doesn't seem to be receiving updates, I wonder is there any advantages in switching to the Codefactory version, in terms of the prospect of getting future updates and functionality? I checked the price of the Codefactory version, and looks like it's cheaper than the Tiflotecnia version.
