Re: Goldwave's NVDA AddOn and Alt+numbers to move between opened files?

I've personally never needed to have more than 2 files open at once so it's easy to switch between them. I do this if I want to insert a sound or mix one sound with another but have never had a need for more than 2 at once.

Re: Need to advise a sitghted person

NVDA does give finer control with the keyboard over moving around and selecting text. The standard way a sighted mouse user would select text in firefox however, would be to move the mouse pointer to the start of the text to be selected, click the left mouse button and hold it down, then drag the mouse to the end of the text to be selected. At that point you can either press control+c to copy the text, or right click and choose "copy". One difference for a sighted person if they are using a computer with NVDA running, is that control+c will only copy the text, NVDA doesn't copy images. In that case (and assuming they want images) then right clicking and choosing copy will still copy the images. Regards Quentin.

Re: Need to advise a sitghted person
Gene
If all they want to do is copy and paste text
without worrying about formatting such as tables, it is not necessary to use
NVDA. and my guess is that doing so might raise a lot of problems for
sighted users. Sighted people may not see an accurate reflection of where
they are on the page, according to a thread yesterday.
But without using a screen-reader, they can select
an entire page and copy it to the clipboard. I've done it with no
screen-reader running using control a and control c.
If they want to preserve formatting, perhaps they
can paste what has been copied into a word processor. If not, they can
paste it into notepad. They can then copy and paste as they usually
do.
I don't know what can be done on a web page with
the mouse in terms of selecting. My suggestion is intended to give them
another option if they need it.
There are so many discussion forums on the
Internet, why don't the people in question discuss this matter on a site with
forums like Bleeping Computer. Sighted students copy and paste all the
time when writing papers. I find it very difficult to believe that what
you are discussing can't be done in some way on the web page
itself..

Re: The New Firefox version
Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>
If you make your current one into a temp copy and then install the latest master, you can test it now. If you do not like it, just reinstall the old one from the temp copy. it will probably warn you that its not a good idea to downdate, but thus far I've seen no issues in the 2016 series in fact.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I'd not suggest you judge the new version from a temp copy cos if you are using windows 8 or 10 the portable copies are far less usable for whatever reason. Many programs no longer work or in part they don't Jamie says its the use of the newer accessibility apis which need to be used with admin privs to be of any use. Re: Turning off input help if you activate numlock inbetween
Jacob Kruger
Depending on keyboard layout, you can, obviously, use the other insert key + number row 1 to turn off input help, but, that would depend on the option to also use extended insert as an NVDA modifier - option under keyboard preferences.
Like said, didn't think it was a bug, but, it baffled me for roundabout 2 seconds...<smile>

Hi Jacob, You are right, I'm going to call this a "feature". We were aware of this behaviour. From memory, I think it is one of those things that looks simple to fix, but would actually be very complex. The main risk is that if you turn numlock on and use the numpad insert as the NVDA modifier, then you won't be able to exit input help until you turn numlock off again. Regards Quentin.

Turning off input help if you activate numlock inbetween
Jacob Kruger
Not a bug report or anything, but, just a warning since it seems slightly odd, and, took me roundabout 2 seconds to realise what had happened...<smile>
Was double-checking layout of numpad keys for something else, so turned on NVDA's input help using NVDA key + number row 1. Anyway, ran through all the numpad keys, including hitting just the numlock key, and, it did still turn on numlock, which meant that suddenly all the numpad keys were reporting their number characters, along with stating that numlock was being included - numlock numpad 5, for example. Anyway, all this meant was that to then turn off input help, I first had to press numlock key by itself again, before then using the original keystroke of NVDA + number row 1, since otherwise it just reported numlock numpad 0, followed by 1 to me, but, kept input help turned on. And, if relevant, this is on my windows 10, anniversary upgrade, 64 bit machine, and, running NVDA 2016.3, with full desktop keyboard layout.
