Re: 2 NVDA questions

New main steps start on new lines.
To see one link per line, which should be the default but isn't, open browse mode settings with control NVDA key b.
Tab to use screen layout when supported.  it’s a check box.  Uncheck it.  Tab to and activate the ok button.
Then save the configuration with control NVDA key c.
If you have NVDA set to save settings on exit, it will be saved when you close the program but I'm telling you how to save it manually since I don't know how you have NVDA set.

Re: NVDA and spell checking in Notepad++

Oh well, apparently one cannot execute plugin menu commands within a macro.  And the shortcut mapper is completely inaccessible.  I Added next/prev misspelled word hotkeys with sighted assistance.  Anyone else in this boat can close NPP, use Windows notepad to open the shortcuts.xml file located in the NPP username\appdata\roaming folder, and then paste the following text in the <plugins> section of the file:
        <PluginCommand moduleName="DSpellCheck.dll" internalID="1" Ctrl="yes" Alt="no" Shift="no" Key="77" />
        <PluginCommand moduleName="DSpellCheck.dll" internalID="2" Ctrl="yes" Alt="no" Shift="yes" Key="77" />

Key 77 is "m," so this adds hotkeys for next misspelling (control M) and previous (shift-control-m).

Dear NVDA community,

after more than 8 months in which we spent exciting time together to organize the NVDACon 2019, we are almost there!

The conference will start on november 15th 2019 at 21:00 UTC with the opening forum as everyone should already know.

This year’s conference is held for the first time in november. Join us on a very inlightning jurney during which we will find out that NVDA is everywhere!

This year we will be proud to have Google as well as Firefox on our conference. For more details, check the preliminary schedule at

https://www.nvdacon.org/2019-program-and-schedule

In any case, there are plenty of reasons why this NVDACon will be unique!

We will be glad to see you at NVDACon 2019.

Anthony,

Here is the full list of NVDA keys.
https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvdaTracAttachments/455/keycommands%20with%20
laptop%20keyboard%20layout.html

If you look through these you should find all the review keys that you need.
This tutorial covers both laptop and desktop layouts.

It would be a good idea to keep this link somewhere so that you can refer to
it as often as you need.

Re: screen review

There are different review modes and just asking what the review keys are will leave you unable to review the screen in many cases.  Therefore, you need to use the user guide to learn about them or a good tutorial, whichever you prefer.  Of course, there is always personal instruction but I assume you don't want that.

If you want to understand object navigation, you may need a good tutorial.  I'll let others discuss what is available that covers the subject well.  I'm not familiar enough with such material.  If you want to use screen review and not learn object navigation for now, you may well understand the user guide discussion.  Screen review is similar to the kind of screen review you may know in JAWS.

But there are situations where you must use object navigation, so it depends on what you want and need to do.

You could check the help manual built into NVDA but if you are using desktop layout with a numpad on your keyboard I would suggest that

Use NVDA plus 1 to turn keyboard input help on and then listen to the announcements as you press the 7 8 and 9 keys on the keypad, then 4,5,6, and finally working down through the rest of the keypad. Remember to keep listening as some keys, such as numpad 5 have different functions depending on how many keys that you press it.nump

You can switch in and out of the input help with insert 1 at any time to try using the review commands.

TOC Question Tags and NVDA

rae.rankin@...

I'm working on a document that started in Word (Office 365) on a PC running Windows 10 with a three page properly built TOC. I've exported the document to Acrobat as a pdf. The links on the TOC work properly when I click on them.

I am now going in and doing accessibility remediation and using NVDA to read to the document. I've made the leader dots in the TOC artifacts and am left with the Heading and page number.The screen reader is reading some of the section numbers incorrectly (as dates rather than section numbers) so I've gone in and put in actual text.

As soon as I put in actual text the reader stops reading the link if I'm using the arrow keys up and down to toggle between TOC items. If I use the tab key to navigate between the TOC items, NVDA reads the link.

My tags look something like this:

<TOC>
  <TOCI>
       Table of Contents
  <TOCI>
       <Reference>
              Preface
              Link-OBJR

Does anyone know if I'm doing something wrong? I am a relative NVDA novice.

Thanks,
Rae

What is it exactly that you think isn’t working? What movement keys and what are they doing? I use braille with NVDA and the Braille Extender add-on for everything. It seems to work quite well here.

Hello All,

              I thought I'd let this topic go and that it would die a natural death, but it hasn't.   It has nothing whatsoever to do with NVDA in any meaningful sense and this territory has been well traveled in the past.

              Those who refuse to keep up with supported operating systems, software, and hardware will eventually be burned, and possibly burned badly, for making that choice.  Choices have consequences.  But trying to convince those who are adamant about this is an exercise in futility.

              This topic is now locked.  Do not revive it here.  If someone feels compelled to extend it do so on the Chat Subgroup.

I have an XP laptop, but, there is a reason for having it, as the

anything else. however, that system will not and does not get put on the

Sorry but firefox version 3.5 is really old now. It's time to upgrade to a new version.
