break copyright. Re: [nvda] Microsoft Word with NVDA by NV Access now available

Simone Dal Maso

This is really a useful documentation.
I will buy it during these days, I have a question:
if I translate the document in italian, do you think I will break copyright?
I really don't want to make things that can create problems to me or NvAccess, but this kind of document is very useful, what do you think about this, translating in other languages?

Re: Microsoft Word with NVDA by NV Access now available

Hi Clare,

Firstly, I'm glad you found the Basic Training for NVDA book useful!

With the Microsoft Word with NVDA book, and I just realised I didn't include this in the blurb, we tried to make it as broad as possible, as we did with the Basic Training for NVDA book.  What that means in terms of versions, is that we wrote it based around Microsoft Word 2010 through to 2016.

I have a computer with Office 2007 on it here myself and so I tested many of the activities and in fact quite a lot works similarly between Office 2007 and Office 2010.  Off the top of my head, I think the find command (control+f) is one - in that it uses the (simpler?) dialog box in 2007 instead of the task pane of later versions, and there are a couple of other things I can't think of off the top of my head.

In any case, I'm happy to offer that if you work through the book and find anything that you can't figure out in Word 2007, drop me a line and I'll have a look and figure it out for you.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Still need to play around with it a bit more, but, for example, under it's settings, under keyboard category, you can turn on full keyboard access, and, partly since alsmost of it's interface seems to be hosted within a webpage of sorts, it seems usable, even if not perfect.

ms word training book

Hi.
Well I have managed to get the book ordered.
I had a job doing so.
The first thing, I tried to enter my info, but the paypal button refused to click.
Luckily I had an account.
I had lost my password though so got another.
I got back in and then tried again.
I managed to get the cart up but had 2 of the same order.
I updated it again and got the right amount.
I hit pay, entered my paypal info and hit pay.
It said it was done.
I returned to the store.
no download, no paypal recipt nothing but I did get a success number.
My account showed the thing as not payed.
On paying again the order canceled itself.
I tried again.
This time everything seemed to go through and the file was added to my downloads.
The order still remains in my cart.
I got the recipt as it should have happened, I just hope I havn't payed 3 times, for the book, something seems up, maybe the system is getting bogged down.
I always support the reader by buying the training modules.

Brian's Mail list account BY <bglists@...>

Well, I did not download it on two of the machines as they were still downloading the updates from dropbox, but one thing may be important as on one machine where the program had been uninstalled I used an old copy of the offline installer, ie not the stub based on normally used. This installed and worked and updated itself to the latest version
The other point of course is that all my machines do have the registry moddification to allow windows and msse updates till 2019, though it calls them by a different name. The operating system still identifies itself as xp though.
I have not had time to test this again today, but its worked for a da few days so far.

So, I don’t really understand, why did you bother to write the

You did not give any details, you don’t give any links, how to make
the machine working on windows xp, you keep saying, “it works”. Well,
don’t you fill, everyone is very happy for you already, and every
time when someone having problem with windows xp he or she will think

Do you think, it is a good time to volunteer little more
information, how about some details? Beside giving an exact date
since which you still under windows xp.

Give some thoughts.

I was able to log in using your procedure. It appears that I can use
Drop Box though I haven't done any testing to be sure that it works
properly after I log in. It treated my login as though Drop Box were
on a new machine and took awhile to index the files I already had in
the Drop Box folder on my machine. But after awhile, it changed its
system tray message to up to date. So it appears that even though
Drop box sent messages saying it can't be used with XP any longer, it
may be able to be.

Perhaps there is a bugg in the Drop Box system that allows you to use
the program in this way but it is not what is intended. I received
two messages before the termination date telling me that the program
can't be used and you can't log in using the program itself. If you

But I doubt it is just a one time procedure. I suspect you have to

Yes, it takes you to exactly the same web page you can go to if you go
directly to the site itself by opening your browser and going there
directly. You are logging into use Drop Box with your browser. You
are not using the Drop Box desktop program. All you are doing is
using control g to have the program run your default browser and open
the login page. If you look in the system tray, you will see that
the program says starting and it never progresses. You can't use the
desktop program to access Send Space other than to have it open the
login page in your browser and that you can do directly in your
browser.

Hi Jacob

Just found your email and downloaded the browser to take it for a quick test drive. it seems pretty useable and also lets you use most quick navigation keys. I was able to go to different pages and go back to the main one etc

I have not had a look under the settings etc but it seem to speak out menus etc as wewll as the web content.

I wonder if others users have taken it for a test drive and what do they think of it as well, should it be added to the list of useable browsers it seems very likely. so far.

Would you please explain how this works? Do you downloaded the actual desktop client from the Dropbox site?
And when I start the client, entering my user and pass I still get a message that tells me that Windows XP no longer is supported - and that's it. The client don't let me in.

Yours sincerely

Mike,

Mike,

So, I don’t really understand, why did you bother to write the
message below, and it is not a first message for the same subject.

You did not give any details, you don’t give any links, how to make
the machine working on windows xp, you keep saying, “it works”. Well,
don’t you fill, everyone is very happy for you already, and every
time when someone having problem with windows xp he or she will think
about you and fill much better.

Do you think, it is a good time to volunteer little more
information, how about some details? Beside giving an exact date
since which you still under windows xp.

Give some thoughts.

Sincerely

Igor

I was able to log in using your procedure. It appears that I can use
Drop Box though I haven't done any testing to be sure that it works
properly after I log in. It treated my login as though Drop Box were
on a new machine and took awhile to index the files I already had in
the Drop Box folder on my machine. But after awhile, it changed its
system tray message to up to date. So it appears that even though
Drop box sent messages saying it can't be used with XP any longer, it
may be able to be.

And what happens when you close the program and run it again or when
you do the same thing by rebooting?

Perhaps there is a bugg in the Drop Box system that allows you to use
the program in this way but it is not what is intended. I received
two messages before the termination date telling me that the program
can't be used and you can't log in using the program itself. If you
can do so using the procedure you gave, that would be useful to know.
But I doubt it is just a one time procedure. I suspect you have to
do so every time you close and reopen the program or every time you
do the equivalent by rebooting.

You can't use the
desktop program to access Send Space other than to have it open the
login page in your browser and that you can do directly in your
browser.

I'm not sure what you are describing. You have to log in using the
Drop Box desktop program as far as I know. You can't log in using a
browser and then use the desk top program without logging in with
that program.

I can't believe Drop box still works for xp. I'm glad it still does
for those who use it. My xp box died a long time ago! My very first
xp box quit serving me when I started using jaws 11. It couldn’t
handle it. I had to give it to a sighted user. Yes, with it I had
drop box. I was going into chat rooms that used tc conference. The
second box I got from a friend. it died shortly after I got my 7 box
witch I still have. I'm happy with 7. If I get or end up with ten so
be it.

Hi,

the update of Dropbox is pushed by one or more entries in
scheduled tasks. So it would be possible to stop the Dropbox
client to update itself. But as I wrote in my last mail - it
didn't matter. Dropbox didn't let you in with an old version of
the client. Yours sincerely

Hi Chris,

The Windows 10 upgrade for those using assistive technology is available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/accessibility/windows10upgrade

Also re the anniversary update, if you haven't got it yet, there are several reasons why that might be.  A post on How to Geek has a few answers: http://www.howtogeek.com/270846/why-your-pc-hasnt-received-the-latest-windows-update-yet-and-how-to-get-it/

The main reasons are likely:

- You only recently upgraded to Windows 10, or the previous big update

- You have updates set to deferred on your system

- Your hardware is a bit older - Microsoft is rolling the update out slower to some hardware configurations to keep an eye on any potential problems.

In any case, according to the article:

"Either head to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Learn More or just visit the Windows 10 update history web page. Click the “Get the Anniversary Update Now” link here and download the tool provided by Microsoft.

Run the Windows 10 Update Assistant and it will automatically download and install the Anniversary Update on your PC, even if it isn’t being offered through Windows Update at the moment."

Regards

Quentin.

Re: Gaining focus on the System Tray area of the Taskbar with NVDA

Chris,

Thanks for the additional details.   I still tend to use ALT+TAB to go through the running applications but there is the advantage to WinKey+T that you don't shift focus until/unless you hit Enter and that you don't have to keep the WinKey held down.

Most of my stuff is in the overflow area because it's not critical and I don't want the notifications area to have anything in it that I don't personally find essential to know about.
