Funny you should mention this, yes, and it seems to have something to do
with either the encoding of the file or notepad itself on windows 10. It is
not doing it all the time though, and hence might be a little tricky to pin
down.
Its not the only program, some email programs seem to be much the same as
if the scrolling is stuck.

you should find screen saver and set it to none.
i dont know about windows ten, because i use xp but you can find
screen saver and set it to none to use say all in every places.

Gene, just to confirm - just tested it on a site this side - if I have layout tables turned off, it doesn't get announced, but, I could still use ctrl+alt+arrow keys to navigate around in a form of layout table.

I should add that what I said is generally true.  But in the case of the layout table setting, I don't know if it changes the way NVDA works when in a layout table or if it just announces when you are entering one and perhaps leaving one.  I have assumed that it only announces that you are entering and perhaps leaving a table and, aside from that, has no effect.  However, my assumption may be wrong.  I started to thing about that after seeing Jacob's message.  Though I doubt I am wrong, I wrote to say that I may be and to get this clarified.

All these settings do is determine whether NVDA announces that you are on or entering something.  They have nothing to do with whether the thing is read or can be worked with.  In other words, if you are entering a table, you will hear table if this setting is on.  If you have the announce links setting checked or the announce heading setting checked, you will hear link announced when you read a link or heading announced when you are at a heading.  If these settings are unchecked, the item will still be read and can be worked with exactly as before.  The difference is that you won't hear heading announced or link announced or table announced.  the thing will just be read.

By the way, did you see my email from last night? In case not, I was
pointing out that I had a look at the source code of this web page and it is
clear that they must be using java or some scripting process to call each of
the columns in turn as a web page link  from somewhere else in the web site.



This means that they are painting the columns side by side on the screen but
in the html code the contents are coming in sequentially. That explains why
NVDA cannot make it into a table for love or money!

then bringing in the next one and so on

Cearbhall, might not help much, but, under NVDA preferences, brows3e mode,
toggle layout tables on/off, and see if that at least makes NVDA recognise
this table as a table, etc.
