Re: And finally, Add-on Updater 20.06
#addonrelease
Hi, Using the current infrastructure, the best way is letting NVDA query a table of add-on identifiers and versions, which must be updated whenever new add-ons are registered and updates are released (still a manual intervention). Note that this fails for add-ons that receive updates from websites other than GitHub and ones that come with their own update mechanism. All this will change once add-ons store idea becomes reality, which will also make Add-on Updater and update mechanisms in other add-ons obsolete. Cheers, Joseph

Is there a way this can be somewhat automated so you don't have to add every new add on that gets posted to the community website?

And finally, Add-on Updater 20.06
#addonrelease
Hi all,
Add-on Updater 20.06 is now available. As an add-on that has gone through one of the most changes as a result of Flake8, along with not breaking update facility for other add-ons, this add-on became the last one to get 20.06. As always, Add-on Updater 20.06 is available through community add-ons website, or ironically enough, through Add-on Updater itself.
And with that, I’m taking a break from NVDA add-ons world for a while. The next releases will be done in July. Cheers, Joseph

#addonrelease
Hello everyone,
StationPlaylist add-on version 20.06 is now available. Besides Flake8 work, this version retires time-based broadcast profiles, Window-Eyes layout for SPL Assistant, among other changes. As always, the new release is available from community add-ons website and via Add-on Updater:

From now on, open the context menu and type d, if my memory is correct about the short cut. You can use the search book marks feature but you have to get to it in a different way now. Control I doesn't open book mark search in most parts of the program interface now. Instead, use this cumbersome method. I think that often, searching for a bookmark is convenient enough that fooling around with the cumbersome interface is worth it. Open the library part of Firefox that deals with book marks with control shift b. Shift tab twice. Type what you are looking for. Tab once. You will see search results. Press enter on the one you want, you are working just as if you were in control I results now. Then, once the desired page loads, alt tab to library and close it with alt f4. If you want to see the tree view you saw with control I when you tabbed once without typing anything, do the following: Open the library, control shift b, and shift tab once. You are now in the tree view. I would like to clean up my bookmarks. There was a method I had used in the past involving control+i which now seems to not work as it had previously. Googling led me to hear of a way to remove a bookmark where you click an icon on the address bar-- something I had no luck in finding how to access that icon from the address bar. How can I remove bookmarks, either one at a time or in multiples, using only the keyboard with NVDA? Thanks! --Laurie M.

Thank you very much Chris! That took me to the library of bookmarks where I could navigate to the ones I wanted to remove and then used shift-F10 to get the context menu to delete. This was very helpful. Thanks! -Laurie

No, NVDA did not prompt me to restart. It did prompt me to shut it down. I heard the shutting down sound, then it just sat there. That’s when I restarted it manually. Hope this helps.

Hi, Did NVDA prompt you to restart after installing the add-on? Normally it should (if it didn’t and you used Add-on Updater to update, that’s something I need to think about). Cheers, Joseph

Hello all,
I just wanted to let you know that, at least for me, NVDA did not automatically restart after installing the most recent Windows 10 App Essentials update. I had to restart NVDA manually. In case your computer stops talking for a long time after you have shut NVDA down as instructed, try this. I know this sounds pretty basic, but there may be users out here who get hung up by this.
Cheers,

If this is an organization you deal with frequently, they should be made aware that they are using HTML coding that is both non-standard and not accessible. Even if I click in to the text itself, you get nothing with a read all or any motion through the text. It's as though there's a "cloak of invisibility" placed over it. This is not in any way characteristic of most HTML formatted messages (which should be as accessible as web pages are). It's always good to have several tricks in your back pocket, as Gene has suggested, for dealing with this when you need to. But, the people that should be dealing with the issue are those generating the message to begin with. It probably takes more effort to create and inaccessible HTML message than a correctly formatted one. This is the first I've ever dealt with that has the total "cloak of invisibility" quality. Re: What do You prefer to write Docs, Presentations, or Spreadsheets with NVDA
To be honest same here. Now All I need is a modern word document converter. I have a lot of old word documents in word 95, there is supposed to be a way to make it do and I do have the files from an old xp system and I have installed them the way jart wants me to do but they don't render right. I know I can manually do it all but is there a way to say submit something to somewhre or do it in batch or something. My only stipulation is it needs to be free or low cost because I'd not be doing it more than once otherwise I will haveto process things one at a time.
