nvda announcing clipboard functions and other keystrokes

erik burggraaf <erik@...>

Hi, I have to figure this out and don't have an nvda machine to poke around on. It never used to bother me that NVDA doesn't announce cut, copy, paste, in particular, and other functions accessible using windows standard keys, but I've got a friend who is a new user of NVDA and he needs some more feedback from keystrokes, particularly these clipboard functions. Is there a setting to enable speaking for these keys, or do I need to install an add-on for this?

Thanks,

Erik

Hi,

I added the entries in the standard dictionary. Now those irritating roman algarisms are not pronounced anymore.
But it would be much better if we could "disable" roman algarisms altoghether.

it depends on firefox version.
officially firefox supports windows ten since its 40 version.
you can use firefox 40 and newer version with windows ten.
i agree with shaun.
try to replace html5 with flash and avoide using flash because its

hi.
thanks and i am very glad that my helps are useful for you.
notepad++.
this program has help file internal when you install it only you
should check manual which is the eighth options when you want to
install notepad++.
but unfortunately, help files is available only in versions 6.7.7 and previous!
in newer versions, there is no offline help file for this program available.
you can temporarily download and install version 6.7.7, go to the
program files, notepad++ folder and copy the help file in other drive
and then install your favorite version.
maybe you can peist it again to its original folder and have help file
even with newer versions of notepad++.
but i am not completely sure about my last sentence and for this
reason i told maybe!

here you are the direct link for downloading of this version 6.7.7

Firefox - v 51 - works fine here on my windows 10 64 bit machine, along with chrome, IE11 and opera, since I use different browsers for different activities.

And, for example, on youTube, flash works fine in firefox, but, on that site, it firstly told me to update to a newer version of flash player, and, then went back to that site, it firstly did crash flash player, and, then when restarted firefox, it told me that content is unavailable unless you're located in Canada.

In other words, don't think problem is with firefox, but, with that site, or something.

Stay well

Re: Does firefox work with windows ten?

Firefox works with windows 10.
Most sites will work with it, from time to time firefox and chrome won't work with a site that doesn't support it but most sites do.
If a site doesn't work you need to ask its admins to support other brousers than ie and edge and things.
It may take a while but eventually stuff that didn't will support most things.

Flash crashes a lot on firefox but firefox, google and others are actively discouraging insecure flash though I still have it on systems because it is still used.
Most sites like youtube use html5 now which is the new standard and which firefox supports.

Re: Cells Cropping in Excel

Quentin Christensen

Hi Kelby,

"Cropped" means that the contents of the cell aren't fully visible on screen to a sighted user because they are too wide to fit in the cell and there is something in the next cell.

If there wasn't anything in the next cell to the right, the text would continue and visually appear in that cell as well (although the contents itself would still be in the first cell).  NVDA would then announce "Overflowing".

NVDA reads the full contents, but it's something to be aware of if you intend to print the spreadsheet or give it to sighted users.

Your options to "fix" cells which are cropped are either:

- Turn "wrap text" on for that cell:
1. Select any cells you want to change (or move the focus to a cell).
2. In recent versions of Excel, Press alt+h, then w

Pressing this once turns wrapping on, pressing it again turns wrapping off.  NVDA doesn't announce the change but re-reads the contents of the cell and won't read "cropped" when wrapping is on.

- Or, you can widen the cell.  To widen the cell:
1. Select any cells you want to change
2. In recent versions of Excel, press alt+h, then o for cell formatting.  Then press i to autofit width.  The cell will widen to as wide as it needs in order to accommodate the text on one line.

Note that if you turn wrap text on for a cell and then autofit width, the width won't change as it isn't cropped anymore as it is already wide enough to accommodate the text.

Which method you use will depend on the layout of your spreadsheet.

Regards

Quentin.

How can i instruct NVDA to announce "DI" as "D" "I" instead of 501 and
"CDI" as "C" "D" "I" instead of 401?
Or, still better, how can  I set NVDA to forget roman numbers altogether?

For the second issue, check out Switch Synth, available on the add-ons site.

Hi
I thought about switching to sapi5 as speech engine.
But i have the following problems:
1.: Since german is my first language, I have the automatic language
recognition switched on. Unfortunately the voice switching doesn't seem
to work.
2nd: When I.m switching voices manually, the other one goes back to it's
original settings.
Are these things that just are, or is there something I can do about it?

Hi Guenni,

eSpeak and I think Vocalizer are the only synthesizers that I know of that support automatic language switching at this time.

For the second issue, there is an issue open in our system for this here: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/6615

If you log in to GitHub or create an account, you can subscribe an be notified of progress of this if you are interested.

Kind regards

Quentin.
